    Dr. J's Masonry
Dr. J just finished our retaining wall today, and I am so pleased! From start to finish Jim did a fabulous job. The great service began with arriving promptly for the first meeting, giving us realistic advice about our project, the best quote (significantly lower than the 5 other contractors who quoted) and being able to start 2 days later. I had found out from local concrete contractor what the going rate should be for a basic cinder block wall - $100/lineal foot - so knew which bids were legit and which were inflated. When Dr. J showed us a stack of photos of decades of past projects he'd done, we were impressed with his lengthly experience and exquisite flagstone and stone boulder masonry. On the first day of work, he and his helper arrived by 7 AM and got to work. Each day they worked fast and efficiently, leaving the job site clean and tidy when they left. We were under a time crunch to get the wall completed so that our carpenter could start the fence that was going on top of it. Dr. J easily worked with the carpenter so that they could coordinate cementing the fenceposts into the wall. He completed the job on time. I would definitely hire Jim again. If you have any custom stone, brick, block or masonry work, call the Dr.!!

    Humbert Construction Inc
They started the foundation from the back of the lot toward the house and when they went to tie in found that it wasn't level and to fix it they were going to have to take out all the existing frame work and replace it. If they had started at the house they wouldn't of had to spend so much time and money fixing this problem. After shoddy craftsmanship, unexplained construction delays, double the cost of the original scope I had to fire them because they were not responsive to my project. I eventually to hire someone else to finish the project and fix all their mistakes. Floors were uneven, ceilings had to be furred to make the existing even with the new which they should have done. Ceiling jousts were constructed wrong and had to be changed. His framework did not pass one inspection, and the money I gave him for mechanicals was wasted because I had to pay a plumber, HVAC, and electrician to redo all of the work plus pay for the materials he should have already furnished with my money. During this whole process he kept trying to upsell the other parts of the job he wasn't hired to do as well as trying to get me to my material on credit for another job which would credit my job. So glad I didn't take that bait. I also had to pay for a lien an asbestos company put on my house because Fernando took my money I paid for the report and did not pay them. The asbestos company tracked them down and got a check from them which bounced. That's why they put a lien on my house which I had to pay again to get the lien removed. I have since learned that his electrical sub hasn't been paid for work and that this has become an issue and he will no longer take his jobs. After more than several attempts to contact Fernando, Tino, and the rest at Humbert Construction I have gotten no response and am now going to have to try and sue them in small claims court. Steer Clear. This guy Fernando basically stole my money and had no intention of making good on our contract. What a crook.

    Dr. J's Masonry
The job was fantastic! He did what he said he would do. He showed up every time he said that he would and was always on time. He was very accommodating and did a great job. I'd heired him to build another block enclosure with brick caps.

Falkon Concrete and the crew did a great job. Their attention to detail from the initial consultation to the completed product was excellent. The team always arrived on time and communication was clear and concise. In fact, every day the owner would give me a call to update me on the process and ask if I had any questions. Great experience and a fantastic final product.

    Dino Herrera Masonry
Dino is the best at what he does. He really knows his work and his products.
During the design phase, we drove around my neighborhood and he pointed out a few that had fake river rock so that I would know the difference with what he was using. He also showed me cement work that was not done properly and would begin to crack within a few years. Though he used new bricks on our front porch for the fence, he had softened all the edges and roughened up their appearance to give them an older look that fits in perfectly with our 1928 house. We get many compliments on the work that he did and others in our neighborhood have asked for his phone number upon seeing the transformation he did on the property.
He does excellent work quickly and at a reasonable price.

    Ashler Fireplace and Chimney
When I contacted the company, on August 30, 2015 Mike Fletcher was courteous and friendly. He showed up on time and discussed my idea of opening up my one sided fireplace. My fireplace opening was facing my living room which we don't spend any time there. I wanted it to face the family room where my family spend all of our time there. I thought it was relatively simple to close one side and open the other. Not so. Mike schooled me on how things worked. He convinced me of replacing the entire fireplace and chimney after I asked that the fireplace be double sided opening.
He told me he could have them start right away. We met Friday morning and by Saturday morning his men were at the house at 8 am with jackhammers, compressors and a huge trash bin parked in front of the house. They got to work, spent the entire day at the house taking the old fireplace down. Thank God I wasn't living at home while they were demolishing it. Dust and rubble everywhere. The men we very nice and picked everything up and cleaned after themselves.
We hit a wall during the permitting process. It took weeks and weeks for the county to approve plans. Finally after a month the plans were approved. There were several items the county wanted for the foundation to be laid including the use of steel incorporated in the foundation. The men we very respectful during their working hours. Unfortunately, there were a few times where the workers left the house with trash and other debris in the front yard and in the house. I called Mike to report it and he would come by and pick the mess up. There was a particular day when they were laying down the bricks. They needed to cut the bricks but all of the cutting was leaving fine dust everywhere. Even though the cutting was done outside they tracked in the dust and the windows were open. There was fine dust everywhere, they didn't bother to cover furniture. The dark hardwood floors were coated with fine dust as well. Needless to say I was angry, and I called Mike and let him know about the mess. At this time it was toward the end of the project.
Here some things I was happy about:
    1. The workmanship and the quality of the product. I oversaw the entire process and the work is phenomenal. I love my fireplace and it works like a charm.
    2. Its gorgeous and don't regret my decision.
    3. After much angst over the cleanliness, Mike did make concession for my inconveniences. He lowered the price on the project and gave me high quality ceramic logs, some embers and a hefty grate for the logs.
    4. Mike is courteous, respectful and is flexible.
Here are a few things I wasn't happy with:
    1. 1. When trying to reach Mike it was difficult especially when we had questions as I had other projects going on at the same time. He doesn't respond in a timely matter or show as noted in #3.

    2. The messiness of the project, I understand there is dust to a certain degree but it was infuriating to see trash in front of the home.
    3. Mike was not present when the final inspection needed to be done on October 10, 2014. I met with the inspector. I didn't have a ladder for the  inspector to check the chimney and the roof (this was the last check off for the permit to be granted). The inspector noted other items that needed to be done it had nothing to do with the fireplace itself. The inspector left. I called Mike and told him that he was not able to do the inspection because there wasn't a ladder to go up on the roof. Mike told me that he spoke to the inspector and stated that doors needed to be mounted in the openings of the fireplace in order to pass inspection. I told Mike the inspector didn't inform me of the necessary changes and it wasn't written down on the documentation. Well as you can imaging this leads to more money being spent. I wasn't ready to put another $1,000 down so that I can pass inspection. Especially when it wasn't noted on the documents from the inspector. This delayed us rescheduling the last inspection on my part. By this time the holidays have come and gone. I was still grappling with the idea of needing to put doors on the fireplace. Mike told me to contact him when I was ready to do the inspection.
With lots of anxiety, I decided to to contact Mike. On February 20, 2015, I contacted Mike to finish the last inspection without the doors just to see if we would pass it. He responded a day later and said he would talk to me next week because he was understaffed. No calls and no texts for a few weeks.
On April 25, 2015, I recontacted him and told him and asked him to schedule the inspector. We went back and forth for a couple of days. He had schedule an inspector but Mike couldn't make it. Again the inspector shows up and Mike is not here.
May 11, 2015 the day finally arrives and the inspector is here, I am here and Mike is here. Inspector looks at the paperwork and says, I need to see your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and the roof as noted in the report. There's no mention of fireplace doors needed in the openings on the report (because it was never noted). Passed inspection within 10 minutes.
I am very happy that the project is completed.

    Vanguard Swimming Pool Contractors
We hired Juan/Vanguard Pools team to install a pool and spa. We interviewed a few companies and decided tohire Juan to build our pool for his honesty, he is easy and nice to work with and very professional and has a professional crew. The project took about almost 5 months, but most was due to the building and safety department. The quality is exceptional! I will be using Juan for my mother?s pool which needs refinishing, tile and plaster. We are so excited for the swimmer to be able to swim in our

    new pool!

The job went great. I was tricky matching new brickwork with old existing brick work and they did a great job. The owner has strong artistic eye for what will look good, and he keeps a permanent crew of skilled workers, so you don't have to worry about workmen who are pulled off the street for the day working on your house.  The owner checks on the job site frequently and makes sure the customer is happy.  I was impressed by their responsiveness to phone calls, timeliness of showing up and completing the job, and the quality of work.  They were a pleasure to work with and I give this company my strongest recommendation.  All my neighbors are impressed with how good my house looks now from the outside.  Calling Brik-Art was a very good move.

After seeing all the great reviews, I called Val up to come take a look at my project. We scheduled a meeting day for the following week and he was right on time, very friendly and easy to talk to. I had a large hedge comprised of about 10 different trees/shrubs growing in and around an old 1950's era 4' tall wire fence. I talked with Val about my idea of a stucco wall to improve privacy and security. We agreed that I would be responsible for sourcing a tree removal service for all the plants (see Lopez Tree Service) and he would remove the fence. He was extremely patient in listening to all my ideas and answering my multitudes of questions - there is a large tree growing on my property line that I wanted to keep - so, I wanted to curve the wall behind the tree. Val said, no problem. We spent about at least an hour discussing how it would all get done and what to expect. He emailed me a bid 2 days later that was very reasonable and expected. He got me onto his schedule within 10 days but because of my busy schedule, we decided to start a week after that. His guys showed up at 7:30am, exactly when scheduled and were extremely professional and courteous. We talked over again exactly how the wall was going to curve around the tree - marked it off with spray paint and they got to work. They were lightning fast! The demo, trenching, footing pour, wall build, mud and stucco took a week total. Every day the guys showed up first thing in the morning and got right to work. I was fascinated about the whole process, and they didn't mind me watching them as they worked.
Approx a month later, I noticed there was cracking along the mortar line in several places that was even chipping the stucco away - I called Val and he came out a couple days later to check it out. He had his stucco guy come take a look and had me back on his schedule for the repair. They ground out all the stucco cracks along the wall and re-mudded, bonded the patches and painted my entire wall to match my house color (the original stucco stock color did not match my house color perfectly as it was painted earlier in the year - originally it didn't bother me, but Val said they would paint after the repair so it would match).
No joke, I get about 4-5 compliments a week on how great the wall looks by locals walking (and driving) the neighborhood. Val and all the guys at Falkon were amazing. So patient and professional. They do an excellent job and they do it right. I will be calling them up if ever I have need for them again.

    Dino Herrera Masonry
When I reached out to Dino via Angie's List I received a prompt response. We set up a consultation visit right away and I received a project estimate soon after. His quote was significantly less than Boston Brick and we liked his reviews. However, i was disappointed that he would not give me me a date of when work would begin. I was told "sooner rather than later" and I said I would not sign the invoice until I received a firm date. I was about to move forward with our second choice when he was delayed on another project and had some availability.
The crew did good work and I am happy with the results, except for one area. No one told us how long we have to avoid using the steps until it was too late. My young children stepped on them leaving their footprints. Dino said not to worry about it and that the concrete would settle. Three months later the concrete never "settled" and I can see footprints on our steps. I just wish he would have taken care of the issue ... I would have paid extra for the work. Instead, I felt the Dino and his crew just wanted to pack up and leave as soon as possible.
