Home Security System reviews in Altadena

  • Several years ago, Five Acres -- a residential treatment facility that caters to some of the region's most needy kids -- invested in a security camera system that consisted of seven NVR machines and over a hundred individual cameras. It is an incredibly complex system, and soon after installation, like clockwork, things began to fail, both on the software and hardware sides. The company who sold us the system and installed it was, at first, responsive to our needs. But they soon lost interest, as traveling here for multiple small fixes (or attempts at fixes) wasn't worth their while. Moreover, their techs didn't seem to have much more knowledge of the system than I had developed over time. Enter LA Security Cameras. Wow. You'd think their techs invented our very system, as within minutes, long-dead elements were brought back online, a maddening password snafu was resolved, and inaccurate settings were calibrated properly. Plus, their techs were fantastic teachers, possessing both top-tier IT skills, as well as expert camera and NVR system knowledge. I've learned more from them than I could've imagined about how these systems work... and more importantly, how to fix glitches and change settings myself - without screwing the whole thing up. What's more -- they can work remotely, through the back-end, frequently without me having to be present, saving me time and the cost of a site visit. I've never heard their techs say, "I'm not sure what's wrong here," or "That can't be fixed." Instead, it's "You know, if we do this, your system will be much more efficient, less cumbersome and more cost-effective," or "We're here for you whenever you need." And there's never been the Hard Sell. If you want and need a camera system that performs at its best, and the peace of mind that help is always a call away, contact LA Security Cameras immediately. Don't wait, like I did. Sincerely, Jake Cashill Director of Facilities Five Acres

  • The service went very well. I paid for the year and got an extra month for free. ADT installed the system to where my doors would not shut. They were able to correct the problem ADT had cause. Their alarm system is much easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing. When I do set off the alarm by accident I am able to speak to a live person to check in with me before they send out the police. The pricing is a little higher, but the quality of service is well worth it. I very much appreciate the fact the company is local and I enjoy the personal touch.

  • This service provider was great! I called George and told him what I needed. I was a little apprehensive because he wasn't familiar with my brand of camera. He used a great car analogy and I agreed to the service. Manny, the technician, was right on time. He had zero problems adjusting the cameras. He knew exactly what to do and did it well. He didn't stop until I had what I wanted. The best thing is Manny wasn't working today. He was out and about with his wife, who was waiting in the car in almost 90 degree weather, when he stopped to help me. Now, that's service! I am well pleased and won't hesitate to call these guys again.

    Ask for Manny!

  • What a great experience! We purchased a 1926 single-story Spanish-style house that had two old alarm systems tangled about the basement and ancient components located throughout the house. Nothing worked and with such a spread out floor plan we felt having a new, fully-functional alarm system was key to our comfort in the new house.
    We researched many options, including installing the system ourselves which we had done in our previous home, and interviewed several companies. Phil, the owner of San Marino Security and a retired Sergeant from the San Marino Police Dept., personally came out to inspect our situation and consult with us about the best approach to take with our property. His recommendations were spot-on and also took into consideration the aesthetics we were trying to maintain with a somewhat historic building site.
    Ours was a BIG job, with 2 keypads and nearly 30 hardwired door/window sensors having to be installed, as well as motion, glass break, smoke and heat detectors, and 2 sirens. The entire project took 2 days, was done very neatly and cleanly, and ultimately cost $3,800 (which was mid-range of all the estimates we received - not the lowest, but not the highest).
    Regarding cost, keep in mind that until a project is actually complete you don't necessarily know what the final cost is going to be, so for all we know the other slightly lower estimates we received could have ultimately cost as much if not more than ours did. Something else to consider is that a security system is an investment in your property and, when done correctly, will add value to your home as well as your piece-of-mind. Now, whenever we go away or secure the system at night, our thought isn't and quot;Jeez that cost a lotand quot; but rather and quot;We're SO glad we made that investment!and quot; Trust us, it's worth it.

    Several things stood out with San Marino Security vs. the other companies that convinced us to go with them:
    - NO LONG-TERM CONTRACT (bigger companies often entice homeowners with promises of a and quot;free security system installedand quot; but only the fine print explains that the and quot;systemand quot; consists of very minimal components and a long-term, i.e. 2-3 year, contract that turns out to be very pricey);
    - 5-YEAR WARRANTY on all parts when using their monitoring;
    - NO CHARGE FOR SERVICE CALLS (this can save you a bundle if your system requires servicing);
    - Very responsive to service requests (they want your system operating flawlessly and can usually get a technician out within a day or two if they're busy);
    - Reasonable monthly fee ($30.25/mo. if the year is paid for in one installment, otherwise $33/mo. - remember, having them do the monitoring also gets you the 5-year warranty and there is real value to that);
    - Excellent customer service (we needed help changing some features on our keypads and their office gladly walked us through the programming steps);
    - Free lawn signs (some companies charge you for the privilege of advertising their company!)
    Overall, we were very pleased with our experience with San Marino Security Systems and can see why so many of our immediate neighbors and other properties throughout the area work with them. We would gladly and confidently recommend them to anyone in their service area.

  • Was not selected due to company's inability to provide monitoring via internet or VOIP (ATT Uverse) technology. We selected another Angie's Llst provider who has both those capabilities and also has it's own armed patrolmen who respond to alarms. San marino only call the LAC Sheriff. Using San Marino would have required us to buy a traditional land line at a minimum of $20 per month just for the security monitoring function.

  • This company came out on 08/06/13. Jim Anderson was the representative. I shared with Jim what my current challenges are, what my needs are, and what I wanted. They sold the brand I wanted. Great! I went to that brand's demo web site and sat with Jim and explained (and showed) the functionality I wanted / needed. Long story short: I spent a lot of time with Jim. He was a great guy; but, I should have known I was in trouble when he told me I knew more about this than he did. I asked him if I could get his proposal by Friday (we met on Tuesday). He looked at me with a surprised look - because it was only Tuesday - and said that he could. Today is Saturday, 08/10/13. I called them at 8 a.m. Friday morning and Jim hadn't gotten in yet. No problem! She took my name, number, and message, and said Jim would call me back. I have yet to see a proposal. I hate it when companies waste your time and don't follow up / follow through. I have a $5700 quote from another company that I wasn't too excited about; however, they've done everything they said they would. They're well known. And, can deliver everything for which I asked. So, I guess I will have to give them a try.

    This company's name is 1st Digital Surveillance and not CCTV Security Surveillance Cameras Installation. Shawn Michael came to my home and performed the work. His work was so poor I had to have someone else come in and do what he couldn't. I needed to connect to my DVR remotely. He told me it would be too complicated for me. This is only because he could not successfully perform the setup. He sold me an HD camera for $250 that is not a HD camera. I paid him on the 12th and my check cleared on the 17th. On top of all of this, he began calling me at work and sending emails accusing me of not paying and demanding I send him my cancelled check as proof of payment because he forgot to make a copy of it for his records. He's been threatening for months now to take me to court and sue. I've ignored his calls and emails. I'm not the least bit worried. He / this company are a waste of time and money. Save yourself the headaches and call someone else. Not only is he really bad at what he does, he's even worse at running his business and tracking payments.

    This company's response only proves my review to be correct about Shawn Michael being really bad at running his business. Now, he can't find the work order / invoice / receipt for the work HE did on my home. Don't be fooled by this company's response. Its pretending to not know who I am and implying to not have done business with me should be clear indication this is a company with which you should steer clear. My review is true and I stand behind it. The owner, Shawn Michael, tried (and failed) to take me to court over this review. My opinion is: Avoid this company like the plague and you will be doing yourself a huge favor.

  • I had purchased a Big Deal $129 FrontPoint Security Permimeter Package.  The were really good and very helpful during the process.  They sent me the package and we installed it and they were there anytime that we needed them, very good service.

  • Some quirks to self-installation as my windows aren't completely standard.  Definitely for a do-it-yourself project.  Great customer service.  Something was wrong with my smoke alarm, so the company quickly sent a replacement.  One issue is that the adhesive on the sensors can fail.  I called FrontPoint and they sent more adhesive.

  • It went pretty smoothly. He installed the security pad at my back door entrance and was very thorough and professional. He informed me of different situations that thieves may create to get in someone's house. One time I got a phone call from ADT informing me that someone was moving around in my home and it turned out to be my housekeeper, but it sure was nice to know that ADT was on top of it. At first I kind of thought it may be a waste, but it now serves my purpose in terms of peace of mind. Even at night. Also I used an advertisement coupon and didn't have to pay for the key pad.
