  • Isaac and Rudy came to our initial appointment. They asked us direct questions about the project, had some suggestions, and listened to our preferences. We also told them we had a tight timeline of 6 weeks. They had a detailed estimate for us in under a week. Once we hired them they started working almost immediately. Their employees were punctual, friendly, and respectful of our space. They worked hard 6 days a week and Isaac said because of our deadline we would be a top priority. He and Rudy both came out to check on progress and get our opinions on materials. They never pushed us to spend more, expand the project, or add expensive extras. I felt like they used their expertise to guide what I wanted and make it a reality. It was a large project and they finished in under 2 weeks. I will definitely hire them again if we decide to do anything else to our yard. They are excellent.

  • When I called J B Custom Remodeling & Landscape Construction, it was impressive that someone answered the phone and told me that some would be calling me.  Within a short time, Owner Jim Bateson called and we made an appointment for the following week.
    On the morning of our appointment at 8am, Jim called to say that traffic was light and wondered if it was all right to come over early. It was okay.  We discussed the scope of the work.  I especially liked his suggestion in improving the drainage area in the back yard corner to avoid flooding.
    Jim had a number of estimates to write for other jobs before me so it would be a while for me to get one.  I got a tentative proposal and estimate cost five days later via email.  I agreed with the tentative proposal and later received a Proposal Contract via email.  Once Jim received the signed contract and deposit, he said that the work will start in two weeks.  Jim and his services are in demand so his work schedule is very busy.  His reviews and comments on Angie's List made me decide to wait until July.
    Jim and his team did a professional quality work. They are hard workers with great work ethics and integrity.  They are friendly, answered my questions, were prompt and did a good job in cleaning up.  Communicating with Jim via email was convenient and helpful.  He responded promptly to my email messages.
    There were a few minor things with the sprinkler system after the job was completed that needed fine-tuning and adjustment and even to replace defective parts from the sprinkler system overhaul.  Jim was responsive in resolving anything that required attention.  He provides excellent customer service and feedback and a one-year warranty on his work and materials.
    I am satisfied with the completed work.  I would hire his company again if I have more work to do in the future and have already recommended his company to others!  Great job, Jim!  Thank you!

    UPDATED: 11-19-2012: Disappointing Follow-up Experience.

    Part of the job was to move and overhaul the sprinkler valve system. There are three watering stations. After the job was completed, I had one follow-up appointment on July 16 to change some sprinkler heads, replace a sprinkler stem, adjust the sprinklers, re-program the timer, check the electrical box and replace a valve.  Station 1 wasn?t working all the time.   Later I still had issues and wanted to schedule an appointment. The major issue was still the fact that Station 1 sprinklers were not watering all the time.  It worked only intermittently. Trying to get another follow-up appointment was very frustrating and disappointing.    I was monitoring the watering cycles daily. I wrote Jim to tell him that Station 1 sprinklers still did not work all the time. The valve was activated but no water came out. Jim said that I definitely had a bad sprinkler timer and he would replace it with a better one. So I waited.   Later Jim wrote ?If the problem was something that was our fault I would make time to come over and correct it but the existing faulty timer is not our fault and therefore I can?t stop working on any of my current jobs to install a new timer until I get done with at least one of these job.? Had he installed a new timer he would have found out that the problem was the valves. I also had plant issues that he had worked on. However, on the next day I decided not to wait anymore for him to install a new sprinkler timer and complete the job. He told me a few times not to worry and he will take care of everything because he goes above and beyond for every customer. I did not like being put off that installing a new timer was not his fault so he did not know when he was going to be available.   On October 27 I hired a sprinkler contractor to install a new sprinkler timer and found out that the timer wasn?t faulty.  Station 1 still did not work. I wrote Jim to tell him that the timer was not defective but the valves were the problem. He wrote back saying that he installed the best valves and that the valves were not the problem.  It must be a wiring problem.  He said that he could install a different brand valve system and if the problem is still there , he will have to charge me for the valves because again it is not his fault or anything he caused. At this point I decided that I did not want him to do anything anymore.  Wiring problem?     Starting on November 7, all three stations did not work.  The valves activated at each cycle but no water came out of the sprinklers.  New valves were installed just four months ago.   On November 10 the sprinkler contractor replaced all the valves with better quality valves. He told me that the black sprinkler box that was used was really an extension sprinkler box which is used on top of a green sprinkler box to extend the height of the box.  He also said that the hole where the sprinkler box goes was not deep enough.  The lid was touching the valves.  The sprinkler contractor started to dig the hole deeper and immediately came across a 1 ½ ft. by 2 ft. rock.  That was probably why the hole was not dug deeper.   I did not appreciate it when Jim said that I had a faulty sprinkler timer and faulty wiring without even coming out to check on them.  He insisted that he installed the best valves and that the valves were not the problem.  He was wrong.  The problem was with the valves.   At the start of the job, Jim told me that it costs $800.00 to move and overhaul the sprinkler valve system.  I had to hire a sprinkler contractor to replace the valves and sprinkler box Jim installed. The job cost far less than $800.00. I did not ask Jim to reimburse me for the cost of installing the new sprinkler valves and box.  I wanted to see if he practiced his Christian work ethics and offer to reimburse me for what it cost me to correct the work that he did and replace the parts. This problem definitely was his fault. I didn?t get any reply from Jim to my last email message that I sent him informing him that the problem was with the valves that he installed. The problem started shortly after the job was completed on July 10.
