    VM Home Improvement
All the jobs were done with high quality result. Victor always came on time and is very reliable. He can do small jobs and big jobs. Victor has been my go to handyman for the past 4 years and he has also done work for my parents.

    David's Landscaping
This review is long overdue. David was courteous and responsive in the beginning, however, after the job was awarded, he became surely and irritable. His crew was nice and professional. The yard looks nice and most people wouldn't notice the problems, yet, after living with it for a few months, we quickly became aware of the mistakes he'd made. The issues we have are: -Young plants were planted under mature trees on sprinklers vs drip - now I know that's bad as mature trees should be watered infrequently or can cause mold and young plants need frequent watering or can die. We've had both happen. -He planted too close together, so everything is crowded and grown into each other. I wanted some succulents - he planted those beside high water need plants. He also didn't advice on a plant that was 1.5 feet tall when put into the grown and now has grown to 15 feet - blocking our neighbors lemon tree, which we enjoyed looking at from our side. -There are a couple of dead zones in the lawn sprinklers. -I'm almost certain but can't verify that when he built our new cement steps they didn't secure them with rebar to the existing landing, which means that over time, the steps could separate from the house. -He threatened, after demoing our old steps, to not build the new ones because of a scheduling problem with HIS contractor. -He didn't locate our gas lines on the property. One of his crew broke one and the city had to be called out to repair it. Instead of owning it, he berated his crew member. Luckily, the city didn't fine us but they could have. We are dealing with all of these problems and will need to move plants and sprinklers to make it right. We had a layout design that he worked with, however someone with his experience level should have advised on how the different plants would grow together and with the existing landscape.

SIMON URIBE TREE, LANDSCAPING & GARDENING SERVICE
Looking at Angie's list for landscapers, I chose Simon based on his prompt response and honesty. I was not disappointed. His people did a great job and have good work ethics. They were able to deliver on the plan in the estimated time period and are also flexible with minor changes. Granted there was no list or contract of what will be done but based on this experience, I must say they even went beyond what was agreed upon. Our front yard went from unfinished to beautiful! Thanks Simon!

    David's Landscaping
The whole project went very smoothly from start to finish.  Don listened to what I wanted, provided suggestions but was not overbearing with his ideas.  The crew was a hard working crew, knew what needed to be done and just got on with it.  From start to finish the work itself took a week which was within the time estimate that Don provided at the outset.  Don obviously has a lot of background and expertise with landscaping and it shows in his interactions with his clients and the finished product.

    Fernando's Complete Landscape & Hardscape
The service went well. He clarified the scope of work and had it written down not to forget. The pricing was reasonable and he took care of everything we asked him to do. Scheduling was not too difficult.

    Bottoms Up Gardens
Summary: the job went exceptionally well, and we will likely be hiring Gwyny/Bottoms Up again. I'm sheepish about publishing this report more than a year late, but I hope it helps inform other potential customers.
Gwyny and her team were by far the most approachable and professional of the five separate contractors interviewed for these jobs. Her consultation was eager, friendly, and upfront; she also provided a lot of useful insight and ready answers to questions. The crew she brought to the house consisted of her, a foreperson, and the rest of the crew (perhaps ~4 total crew). During the first visit, Gwyny was on-site much of the time, also providing physical labor alongside the crew; she left the work in the hands of the foreperson, which was fine. Her crew communicated with us clearly and often - we also left the house for a short time, and they worked perfectly well on their own. The crew also worked independently, in parallel, on separate parts of the job. The tree removal was a worrisome point for us, but her explanations and the crew's ability made it very simple, with no incidents or threat of danger to property or person. Her line-item price for tree removal was incidentally the lowest of the lot we interviewed, although her overall price was not; the total quote was about middle-of-the-road. There were no surprises during the job, and the work order and process went exactly as quoted.
During the second visit, the crew was run by the irrigation expert, and Gwyny did not work on-site. However, the process was just as smooth and professional as the first visit. It is significant to note that the plantings are all successful more than a year on, and the irrigation works as planned. I've only made small changes to the emitters to alter the flowrate/water delivery based on personal preference.
We plan to have Gwyny back to help us plant fruit trees on the property. She calls herself the "Outdoor Cleaning Lady", and this was certainly true (our property was put in a pristine state) but she's also much more. Find some time in her schedule and hire her!

    David's Landscaping
Great all around.  Don and his team are very cordial, professional and easy to work with.  Don was very helpful and polite.  Even when there were things I wanted to do that he thought weren't the best ideas for the plants or the given space - he worked with me to achieve the visual goal I sought while maintaining the best for the lawn/plants.  As changes and adjustments arose during the project (as they always do) he was a fair negotiator.  We really love the work they did and hopefully he and his team will be back as we move to the back yard!

    CANTERBURY LANDSCAPING INC
I purchased a 75 year old Tudor home four years ago in a historic South Pasadena neighborhood. After doing several renovations, it was time to address the landscaping, or lack of. My property has a very large back yard which was basically a blank canvas, except for an unsightly telephone pole. I contacted a few professional landscapers to discuss design & installation. Canterbury was the company that stood out the most by far.
    '
During the initial evaluation Ken & Michelle came out to meet with me & evaluate the property, current watering system (which had problems) & every detail for the project... down to the types of plants, trees, etc. I asked a lot of questions & was impressed with their knowledge & patients. I believe I kept them at my home for 2-3 hours. Just over this period of time, I found they are true experts in the field & that I could trust them.
    '
On their next visit, they stopped by for measurements, testing water pressure & other initial planning. I did not require me to be home for this second visit. They notified me when they were stopping by this time & every other time.
    '
The third visit was the presentation. I wasn't sure what to expect from this meeting, especially because I did not commit to the job at this point. Ken & Michelle arrived and presented a professional drawing of the proposed design work in detail. There it was, the vision to transform my plain backyard into something wonderful. They reviewed the plant list, trees, grass, shaping the planting areas & new sprinkler systems installation. They even worked in fruit trees; orange, apple, lemon & peaches. I didn't even envision having fruit-bearing trees (I grew up on the east coast, brrr). I'm so thankful they recommended these, they're beautiful flowering & the fruit tasty too! After going over every detail, we discussed the cost, everything was clearly itemized. They also addressed a problem area in the yard where a tree was previously removed & a crater was left behind from the root system. Upon wrap up, they gave me a copy of the information. I told Ken & Michele I would get back to them. Not once was I  given a pressured sales pitch in attempt to win the job.
    '
As it happens, time past. Not once did I get the bothersome call to "act now." Their method of doing honest, no pressure, business was refreshing. When I was ready, I contacted Canterbury & spoke with Ken. I did ask them to come out one more time to add additional work to the job. I decided I wanted another tree in my front yard & asked them to fix the poorly designed flower beds. On their forth trip, they measured out the newly added area & were willing to make the changes to the project. I realized the amount of their invested time on-site & in design, before I committed, was beyond what any company would ever do. I did bring this to their attention & they were aware of it. Please remember, they are the team that work through the project from start to end. I asked them to move forward with the project. I had no concerns or doubts, I was in good hands.
    '
Moving forward a few weeks, they began... outlining beds, laying out boarders, poisoning where needed. Next, the installation crew showed up & delivered all the equipment. They were mindful & very careful. I learned that the men have worked for Canterbury for many years.
    '
A few days later, the crew showed up as scheduled & got right to work removing grass, soil, etc. I'd like to mention that for the entire job duration, the men were on time, every day. They were always polite & respectful.
    '
As the job progressed, scheduled deliveries were made of fill soil (for the crater), top soil, mulch, plants, more plants, four 24" container mature trees, fruit trees, vines (for about 60' of fence coverage), edging, A mature Silver Birch tree (the front addition) and a Tabebuia tree (I still can't pronounce that one but it's beautiful). The transformation took five days, which was the estimated time Canterbury gave me. Their crew worked so hard. Ken & Michelle visited often as needed, sometimes once or twice a day.  Every item was placed exactly where Michelle instructed the crew.
    '
I'd like to mention the new sprinkler system. I honestly didn't know what to expect but I was impressed. Each fruit tree had dedicated adjustable bubblers, the beds had separate zones with various heads for shape & height, the Star Jasmine vines got dedicated fixed bubblers & unique sprayers installed for along the house bed designed to keep water spray at a minimum (wet stucco is not your friend). The old system was designed so poorly, I was worried. Ken assured me the new system would be perfect... but it wasn't, so he added one sprayer & TA-DAH perfection! It's not as spectacular as the Bellagio fountains but I'm extremely satisfied with Ken's design.
    '
The quality of the plants... all were/are healthy. The Silver Birch Tree that was delivered from up north looked good to me but Ken & Michelle were not totally satisfied with it. They arrange to replace it. The new tree arrived and it was magnificent. I feel most companies wouldn't have offered to do this. After installation was complete, Ken & Michelle closely inspected everything. They gave me detailed instructions for initial & future watering, plant care, time of year to trim certain plants & what to expect. It was a lot of information & I learned so much.
    '
Ken & Michelle are a great team & I personally like his & her character. The total project cost was not inexpensive but a very good value for the labor & materials involved. They had a true vision & were able to execute the plan smoothly. Throughout the entire process they always communicated and set expectations. I highly recommend Canterbury Landscaping to anyone who is looking for an honest and knowledgeable professional landscape design team. They were more than helpful, and I feel went above and beyond to make me happy.
    '
My review could not be anymore truthful. My yard has been called a warm & welcoming park-like setting. I'm so proud of it & they should be too. Their follow up to check on things still impresses me. I never know when they'll contact me but they are more than welcome anytime. Thank you Ken and Michelle for a job well done!

    TOYODA LANDSCAPE
In all, I would give Toyoda and and quot;Aand quot; rating in all areas. The quality of work, professionalism, and reasonable price made for a pleasant experience. Helen was prompt and courteous in responding to my calls/emails. Alex arrived on the appointment date/time and worked to excavate the pipe line and replace it. At my request, he added another sprinkler head in an area that needed it. He worked hard and did an excellent job. When completed, he showed me the spray pattern. He advised me of the do's/dont's so I would not accidentally damage the sprinkler heads. He replaced the excavated lawn and cleaned the area after finishing. I am glad I chose Toyoda Landscaping and would highly recommend them.
