Atlas Heating & Air Conditioning Co
We had a great experience having our furnace replaced with Atlas Heating and Air Conditioning. A different company originally recommended that our furnace be replaced and we got estimates from a total of three companies. Atlas was reasonably priced. The estimator Keith was very responsive and patiently answered a number of questions about various options. He gave frank assessments about what would be involved in a two-stage furnace, higher-efficiency furnace, central A/C in addition, or a heat pump. The installer Joe arrived right on time, worked all day, clearly explained our new thermostat, and left the work area cleaner than he found it. He also patiently answered my questions about maintenance. We're still waiting to complete the permit and MERS inspection but overall we've had a great experience.

    Hassler Heating & Air Conditioning
Of the 3 estimates I had (Home Depot, True Energy and Hassler), Hassler was recommended by a good friend who is a business owner and knows the Bay Area business climate. Hassler provided the best price by far, and I felt very comfortable with them. Mr. Robert Mitchell explained what I needed and didn't need. The 2 others recommended replacing all my ducting, which would have driven up the costs considerably. And since my ducting had only a thin wrap of insulation, he recommended covering that with better insulation, which I did myself. The installation went well, though it took a little longer than they had originally estimated. They did a good job or routing all the misc pipes for drainage and exhaust of the heater after consulting with me about the routes. They ran out of time to bolt the furnace to the cement floor of my basement ( earthquake safety feature), but said they would return after my inspection to do that and anything additional the inspector found The installation inspection went well, and the inspector did not find anything additional. The one hiccup in the process was when they sent an inexperienced tech out to drill the holes in the concrete to mount the furnace to the floor. He didn't have the right drill bits to drill through the concrete and apparently rebar that was in the concrete. He seemed unsure of how to proceed. I told him I thought I had the tools to finish the job, and if he would leave me the screws & brackets, I would finish. Later that day, I found I didn't have the correct bits to drill the holes either. I called Hassler back and they sent another tech out to finish the job. Great job Hassler!

    A Quality Construction
We wanted to sell our house and our agent recommended us to remodel completely the bathrooms at the house which gave us a tight deadline for that (only two weeks) bathrooms remodeling. We contacted several companies and at the end, we went with A quality construction since they guaranteed to complete the work within our deadlines and our research on them revealed that they are extremely reliable. Colin was our project manager and he made sure that the work will start the following day and that the crew will complete the daily tasks while focusing on the quality of the work. The bathrooms were completed within the time frame and we want to thank A Quality construction for the hard work that was done! They gave us a great quality results.

    SOD Home Group
We hired SOD builders to do a complete kitchen remodeling and enlarge the existing space by expanding the walls several feet to the patio area. The new kitchen included the installation of the upper and lower cabinets, new paint, new backsplash, marble counter top, LED lighting and new dishwasher, stove and range. Allen, the project manager and Shirael (the lady that we worked with in regards to all the documents, payments and permits) from the office who did an outstanding job helping us. During the work, we clearly noticed that they were always made sure that the costs will remain the same and wont pass the budget that was set at first and they made sure the job was done accurately. All the sub-contractors that they employed for our house (carpenters, electricians, painters etc.) were outstanding, qualified and experienced. We were very fascinated that our project Allen was able to complete the entire kitchen few days earlier than he promised us. We were always given a personal attention by Allen, who was very good in communication and organized and by Shirael. The new kitchen looks perfect and very useful and we strongly recommend them and we will hire them again for any remodeling project we may have.

    Healthy Duct Cleaning
Impressed by the A rating of this vendor, I purchased the $49 tune up service. Inspector found central heating unit was fine, but found heating duct to the old section was damaged and insulation needs to be replaced. He indicated will be a good two day job by a crew of 3-4 person. We negotiated for the total of $5000. Day of the work, 3 guys showed up, the crew head asked for the list of job details inspector gave to me, which I didn't have with me. It is big surprise that he didn't know before coming to work. The crew finish the job in one day (yes, they worked hard). But we had to mop off dusts from the ceiling through out the old section and more (they did vacuum the carpet and floor thoroughly). I paid top $ for an A rated vendor who should know it's a must to plastic sheathing, from ceiling to floor, an area big enough to access above ceiling. Inspector indicated all work done are life time warranty. I contacted vendor asking for certificate of warranty, there is none, instead was told "just call and we will take care of it .....". I've worked with other vendors in the past, there is always a professionally written warranty clearly stating what are covered and for how long signed by corporate rep. So, I provided a sample to vendor, who said will email one to me shortly. Nothing has happened as of this comment. In summary, workers need be trained to minimize dust spreading, office needs to learn how to conduct business professionally.

    ABC Cooling & Heating
ABC did not respond to my email inquiry so after a week I called and reached them and an appointment was immediately set up. The technician was very helpful and professional, all I had was a failed termostat and $59 for this diagnosis was a very reasonable price. I would have really liked ABC to have reasonably priced thermostats so I could buy it directly from them and have the technitician install it. But the thermostats they were so overpriced that I bought it on my own and installed it myself. I would consider using ABC again for the professionalism of their technician but I would be cautious about the price of products they are selling.

    Advanced Home Energy
It was okay but I wasn't blown away. They cleaned up well. They were personable. The left hand didn't always know what the right hand was doing. There were several different people that we talked to and in each case they weren't the ones we found next time. They were pretty responsive.

    Central Heating & Air
He went in the basement where the furnace is located and I didn't go with him.  He went over the furnace and told me that under the was wet.  There was no explanation as to why it was wet which I'm sure is not his problem.  That is up to the homeowner.  I have since done other work that should correct the problem will wait for a heavy rain to see is this is still wet in that spot.
He was finished in about 1 !/2 hours to 2 hours.

    BMC Mechanical
Our 25-year old gas furnace suddenly stopped working on December 30. It wouldn?t turn on, just before a holiday and a weekend. Luckily, we were able to have a heating professional check it out the next day. He diagnosed the problem as a cracked heat exchanger. Using a mirror, he showed us the cracked area, and also showed us where flame from the burner had burnt the wires to the igniter, preventing the unit from turning on. Our old furnace was toast.
Using Angie?s List we contacted four heating contractors. Our furnace was in a rear utility room beneath the house. What we basically wanted was a new furnace to replace the old one, preferably sooner than later.
Two of the contractors took a heavy marketing approach, in which they spread a set of glossy brochures on our dining table and told us our real problem was the energy performance of our house, in which our furnace was only one factor. Their proposed solution was to first perform an energy audit, to assess how efficient our house was energy-wise, and to then configure a total system of sealing, insulation and high-efficiency, state-of-the-art heating. Most of their visit consisted of a sales presentation in our dining room.
One contractor was a local plumber with impressive credentials. His approach was to simply replace our furnace with a newer, more efficient model--basic, medium, or super-efficient. He would connect this furnace to our existing metal ducting.
The fourth contractor--BMC Mechanical--was different. Barron spent most of his visit with us in our utility room discussing our various options in a new furnace installation. He listened to us instead of making a sales presentation. And he was quite good at coming up with creative suggestions. One issue we raised is that our old horizontally-mounted furnace took up about 1/4 of our utility room, and that was space we would really prefer to use for storage. Barron crawled under the house, and upon returning said he could move the heater into the crawl space, suspended from floor joists, and route new ducting from there. That would free up about 40 sq. ft. of utility room space--giving us a both a new furnace and more storage. In a small house like ours, that was the approach we were looking for.
We picked BMC Mechanical for the job. Barron and his small team did all the work, promptly and cleanly. We could not be happier with the result. The new installation went smoothly, the work and workmanship were top-notch, and any questions and concerns we had were addressed immediately, on the spot. We now have a quiet, high-efficiency furnace, new ducting, and more storage space--a total win for us.

Atlas Heating & Air Conditioning Co
They gave us the 10% discount on the service call fee. The price they gave us for the repairs was reasonable, though the furnace was 40 years old so we decided to replace not repair. They had an estimator come out right away. Their estimate was in keeping with the others we received.
