Handyman reviews in Albany

    A Quality Construction
We wanted to sell our house and our agent recommended us to remodel completely the bathrooms at the house which gave us a tight deadline for that (only two weeks) bathrooms remodeling. We contacted several companies and at the end, we went with A quality construction since they guaranteed to complete the work within our deadlines and our research on them revealed that they are extremely reliable. Colin was our project manager and he made sure that the work will start the following day and that the crew will complete the daily tasks while focusing on the quality of the work. The bathrooms were completed within the time frame and we want to thank A Quality construction for the hard work that was done! They gave us a great quality results.

We went with John based on other reviews here and his competitive bid but thoroughly regret it. The day he started the job, he told us the labor would double if we wanted the texture of the wall to be smooth. Why wasn't this discussed upfront before we gave him the job?   Unfortunately, we didn't let him go on the first day, and he continued with the work. He actually made assumptions on the electrical work, and now that has to be redone. He didn't finish the work before leaving on vacation and billed us for the entire project . I asked him to resubmit the invoice for the work done up until that point, and the labor costs listed were much higher than expected. When asked why the labor costs were so high, he became defensive and told us we were trying to take advantage of him. We assured him that we wanted to compensate him fairly but didn't understand the logic of his invoice. I asked that he explain how he had planned to break up the labor costs originally, and he refused to answer that question. Instead, he berated us with insults and threatened to seek "legal action" if we didn't pay him right away. After we insisted a few times, he did submit receipts for materials purchased, which showed he bought equipment (e.g., an electric stapler) that he kept for future jobs. We paid him to get him out of our hair and glad that we are moving forward with someone else. Lesson learned: Listen to your gut the first time around; otherwise, you'll be paying for it some way or another.

He called and he was in Las Vegas with a family problem and he couldn't come that week. So we rescheduled it. He called me again. This time, he said it was because he was doing some bigger work he couldn't come and wanted to reschedule. That's when we said, "No more." I felt for him the first time because anything can happen. But when it happened the second time, I said, "That's it." The first time, he called me the day before. He called me in the evening and he was supposed to be there the next morning. It was an emergency. So, I didn't pay too much attention. With the other one, he just notified me by e-mail the day before. The price was okay, but he never showed up. If you're in business and somebody has paid ahead to have something done and you've canceled on them one time and when it comes to the second time, you don't tell them, "Well, I can't come and do it because I have other bigger jobs." That to me, it's uncalled for.

    Homeworx Construction & Plumbing
When I first tried to initiated contact with Chuck, the owner, his mailbox was full and I was unable to reach him. Eventually we made contact and he said he would send two guys. The curtain rod I wanted installed went up with no problem but it took over an hour for them to figure out the refrigerator door needed another part in order to complete job - which was not finished. The first handyman seemed to know what he was doing but his partner spent a lot of time tinkering around and didn't seem to quite know how to do the job. He seemed more interested in socializing with me, asking personal questions and looking around than working. He also reeked of stale alcohol which concerned me. I set up a second appointment with Chuck himself because I had much more work that I needed done that I wanted to discuss- he was 20 minutes late to this appointment.. This was potentially a several thousand dollar job for him - resealing floors, installing a new bathroom vanity and tub, installing molding along my staircase and a sliding door for the kitchen among other jobs. Hesaid he would get a quote to me the following day via email and I set up a follow up appointment with his handyman to address the refrigerator. I never received the quote. I waited for the handyman to show for our appointment. After 15 minutes and no sign of him, I called Chuck. Chuck didn't seem to know if I had an appointment or not. He told me he had just rolled out of bed as he was in Disneyland on vacation. He checked and said oh yeah the guy will be there in twenty minutes. I told him to forget it. Being 40 minutes late for an appointment, and the previous lateness is completely unprofessional and disrespectful of me and my time. Obviously, they are in no need of new business or referrals if this is the way he operates. I have taken my business elsewhere.

Feraru & Associates Building & Design Inc
Sorin and his team have just completed a ton of dry rot work to clear
the pest report on our recently purchased 1925 stucco house in Albany, CA.
Having dry rot removed and repaired is not the kind of house project
one looks forward to, but Sorin made the process run smoothly and
efficiently.  What does one look for in a good contractor?  I want a
contractor who is knowledgeable, professional, a good communicator,
timely, and can get estimated work done within budget and on time.  I
also want a contractor who can manage a team of workers who are good at
what they do, show up on time, work hard, are respectful of property and
people, and keep the work space neat.   Sorin and his team met and
exceeded my expectations.  It was truly a pleasure to work with him and
when budget allows, we plan to have him back to complete seismic work as
well as remove our chimney, which is pulling away from the house.
I've already recommended Feraru and Associates to two neighbors and will
rely on him for any future work done to our house -- his team seems to
    do it all!

First I have to say the quality of the work was excellent. I had quite a bit to do so the Angie's discount really came in handy as I think they are a bit pricey. They started the work when promised and let me know when work was a bit more extensive and let me know what the price would be to do that. Clean up was not what I expected. I had to clean paint off my deck, sweep up the caulking outside of my windows, etc., etc. I did call them again to install a microwave (they again did a nice job and this one did clean up), however, I had to go back to them when I received the bill as it was quite high. They were quick to revise and I appreciated that. I will use them again.

    Barney's Handyman Service
Did an excellent job. Cost of service includes material  cost for roof vent (fan not included).  Cost was higher than initially expected but  he put in a lot of work and did a great job.  He was also flexible on payment terms, which was greatly appreciated.

Mr Fix it Handyman Services & Construction
From start to finish this company was excellent! This was the fourth company I called that day. All others were booked for the next 4 to 6 weeks. I was so surprised when the person on the phone said, "Yes, we service your area. What time is best for you?" I said, "Today?" I almost fell off my chair! They set up a time, sent a handyman out, and I had everything completed in three hours. I would definitely recommend them. The representative who came, Wilbert, was punctual, experienced, polite, and very professional. He did a wonderful job!
