    Xtra Hand
It went great. The work was very high quality and the workers were very professional and communicative. They actively trouble-shooted any issues that came up to complete the project. I would definitely hire them again.

I made a 10% deposit on April 1st. It was supposed to be 4 to 6 weeks later that installation was to occur. After 3 months, I contacted Bill to inquire about install date. That's when he informed me they couldn't get the same spiral wrought iron to match what I already have in place and that he'd need approval before continuing the fabrication of my railing. I approved and he told me they'd be ready to install within a week and a half. Another month went by and he contacted me to tell me they no longer could get the half round stock for on top my hand rails and that it would take a few more weeks to have it machined. My husband works in plant maintenance for one of the major airlines and he showed me an online website where the half round stock can be purchased overnight from a local supplier. Finally, after 4 1/2 months, you read that correctly, 4 1/2 months and only after writing my initial review on Angie's List, did the installation guys finally to the house to install the 2 handrails, each approximately 4 feet long. Bottom line: what was supposed to take 4 1/2 weeks to complete took 4 1/2 months. I will say, however, the finished product turned out beautifully and we are very satisfied with it. If you are not in a hurry and keep badgering Bill, you will not be disappointed with the work. We felt the price was a fair price, too.

We are extremely happy with the service and the new fence. It looks awesome and exceeded our expectations. Within a week of first contact, we had a fair estimate. Within two weeks, a signed contract. And the job was completed about a month after initial contact. Everything went as Matt estimated. The guys showed up and finished exactly when they said they would. The quality of their work was excellent and they did a good cleanup job as well. They even made a few good decisions/recommendations on the fly that saved us from having to incur extra costs (e.g. redo a retaining wall). Their work has not just replaced an old fence, but added value and beauty to our home. We would definitely recommend them for any fencing jobs.

We were given an estimate of a 2 week wait for starting the job and that is exactly how long we waited. The estimated time for completion was 3 days, again, the time was correct. The finished product is beautiful. We have many flowers and shrubs close to the fence but the workers were extremely careful to protect them. This was an A+ professional job.

They were prompt with the estimate. They spent more time with the estimate than with the project and they did not charge me any extra. They did very good quality work with the repair. They were even willing to do some extra small work while they were out. They did not have the lowest price, however they did good quality work.

Excellent job. Mr. Nguyen showed up on time for the estimate, gave me the estimate on the spot and started the job 2 days later. He removed/disposed of the waste lumber, and was done with the entire job in one day. No debris was left behind. He understood exactly what I wanted and did the job, no fuss, no muss. He works alone, so if you have a small job and don't want a lot of trampling going on, this is your man. The job was relatively roughed in, but all measurements exact, this is not the guy you want if you want fine finish work.

When I called to schedule a bid, a startled woman answering the phone on the other end replied, ''Alameda? We don't go to Alameda. We're in San Jose.'' But they're called ''Bay Area Fence and Deck'' not ''San Jose Fence and Deck.'' Alameda is in the center of the Bay Area, right? This company could have won Brownie points by referring me to another company in my service area.

    Borg Fence
Borg Estimator, Nick Grice, did an excellent job of listening to what we wanted. The company provided what we wanted in a reasonable response time for the busy time of year. The Borg crew worked extremely hard and were polite and pleasant despite limited English. The company is trying very hard to do a professional job all around. One caveat: even the better grades of redwood don't compare to old growth so expect knot holes, nicks, chips, etc. The crew made some mistakes we discovered after the fact: a trim upright off by 15% (not fixable), an off center postcap, gate boards with splits at the top, a large visible rock wedged between post and fence board base used to bridge a gap. The company provided no follow-up for quality assurance. A telephone call would have been appreciated. Overall, however, a difficult job done well at a decent price.

Fremont Fence Inc, which is also Newark Lumber responded quickly when I called. Nicanor Martinez, the estimator, was extremely pleasant, professional, and really knew what he was doing when it came to fence construction. I'll hold onto their contact info for future projects.

It was a small job and they declined because of that fact. It was fine as I did tell them up front it was small job.
