Does a Painting Estimate Really Matter?

    Sierra Coatings LLC
Ozzie was very prompt in contacting us and setting up a meeting the day after contacting him. He was very helpful in helping pick out a color scheme but left the final decision up to my wife. The job was started within a week and completed within a week and a half. He met the deadline we gave him, after starting the job, due to unplanned company coming. We had one painter at all times who spoke English, important as I do not speak Spanish. They will move all furniture and replace it as well as wall hangings. We did a lot of this ourselves by choice. They pressure washed the house first then patched cracks in the stucco then sprayed on 2 coats of paint. They patched the drywall where we had had 2 water leaks and did a close match on the texture. They do not require any money before the job is completed to your satisfaction and guarantee their work. A week after completion now and we are very satisfied

They weren't as good. Their pricing was good, which, kind of, lured me to them. But their timeline on getting things done and then their quality of work was not to the level that I expected. The responsiveness, initially was good because they came out and gave me a quick estimate. But, completing the job took about two weeks longer than I thought because they hadn't finished all the work.

A Touch of Class Paint & Home Improvements
We have a 3-section modular home about 11 years old and a stick-built work shop.  House is rubber stucco-like finish while workshop is actual stucco.  House had numerous cracks where modular sections joined and around windows. The shop had several cracks needing repair in the stucco.  In addition, the kitchen counter and sink area needed grouting repaired around the sink and the counter tiles.
Michael gave us a price for crack sealing and painting.  We added the kitchen counter repairs and sealing the area between the screen room roof and the house as the job progressed.
We agreed on the original price and set a starting date for the work.  He was unable to meet the starting date due to inclement weather, but as soon as the rain and wind stopped he and a helper started the work.  They did a nice job sealing all the cracks in both buildings and the area where the screen room met the house.  This area had leaked tons of water in every rain since we had the screen room built.  He took pictures of the joint and showed us where the builder had not even tried to seal area.  He did an excellent job of getting sealant down into the joint and smoothing it between the roof and the house wall.  This area no longer leaks in the rain!  (Good job, Michael!)
He applied the paint using a spray system.  He was careful to mask off areas which should not be painted and did, what I believe to be, a nice, workman-like paint job.
The paint job looks nice, the crack sealing is evident as a different texture between the rough rubber stuccoplex and the smoother sealant, but that is to be expected.
The additional cost he wanted to the additional work - grouting and painting the storage shed - was less than $100 and quite within my expectations.
In all, I am very pleased with his work and would recommend him to friends.

Ozzie was very quick to respond to my inquiry. He came the same day I called for an estimate to discuss what I wanted done.. We discussed the entire process and when he gave me an estimate. He was very helpful in choosing the colors. The price was higher than what I originally intended but the quality of work is excellent. The worked was completed over a period of four day. His painters demonstrated a lot of expertise in every detail. I am very happy with the final result.

Michael was terrific, though a bit more than we had bargained for price wise. He is out to get every penny he can. Understandable I guess. he did a terrific job in the back, was professional and during our conversation came to fix the dishwasher as well. The man knows his way around a hammer and screwdriver! Would use him again. Exterior painting, neat and complete.

I would highly recommend Sierra Coatings to anyone in need of stucco patching and painting services. They were tremendously professional, returning my phone calls and keeping appointments without fail. They began and finished the work as scheduled and at the price quoted. The work was also very good--the wall they filled and painted looks like new. They were a real pleasure to deal with and exceeded my expectations in every way. he gave me a 2 year warranty on labor and a 15 year warranty on the paint. I was also told if I find something not right to give him a call right away. He even gave me the left over paint. Overall this was a really good experience.

    Galindo And Sons Painting
Painter is not a licensed contractor, however, he painted my neighbor's house and my neighbor was satisfied with the work he did and the price he charged. Painter is Luis Galindo. He worked with us to get the paint we wanted and I paid the difference in price to get the "best" paint. That added about $100.00 over the cost of the paint he'd planned to use. He pressure washed the house right away, but painting was delayed because the paint took almost week to get in town. We had to use colors specified by our home owners association. He did a minimal job in scraping old pain off roof facia, so the delay gave me time to do a better job scrapping paint in some areas. I did't mind doing some of the work myself. For the price he gave I hadn't expected more from him. I also removed and replaced our sun screens and exterior decor items. We had a couple of additional delays in painting due to windy conditions, otherwise the painting went well. He was easy to work with and very willing to do as I asked. In some cases he offered suggestions which I appreciated. I got another bid to do the work from a licensed contractor, but it was double the bid of Galindo and sons. The price I paid was for a single coat of paint. He would have gladly done two coats but the cost would have been more. We used an excellent paint which included a primer in the paint and it covered very well with one coat. Depending on the paint, others may not be satisfied with one coat. Overall, we were very satisfied with the end result and the price we paid.

Update, 01/28/15- When putting up our Christmas decorations I noticed an area on the front of the garage where the stucco has a particularly rough texture. The paint had not been applied to get above the texture, so there was a sizable area that need to be covered from the top. I called him and explained what I found a week before Christmas. He said he would take care of it, but did not commit to a time. After a couple of calls and a missed appointment he came by the house on 01/28/15 and touched up the area he hadn't covered along with two other areas that hadn't been well covered on the west side of the house. After he left I noticed there were still a few spots he missed again, so I touched them up myself. The main reason for painting my house is to seal it from water penetration. Leaving spots of unsealed stucco exposed would leave those spots unprotected. For homeowners who are seeking a good price, I would still recommend Galindo, however, I'd insist he thoroughly inspect the completed job and cover all the spots he missed.

They were professional, on time, and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. I am totally happy and will highly recommend. All previous eight raters in 2013 where correct in their giving Sierra Coatings an A rating.

    Xtreme Painting
On Friday Alex and one helper power washed the house most of the paint around the roof trim came off (bad original paint job).  On Monday Alex returned with the full crew, they went to work taping and covering all windows and doors.  They started repairing the cracks, replacing door trim, pulling back the gravel around the house, and caulking.  Soon they were spraying paint.  After the paint had setup they started the cleanup.  When they were done everything was back in place and cleaned up.
They had sprayed 40 gallons plus of paint and taken care not to get paint where it didn't belong.  They completely covered the back patio so as to not get paint on the deck or in the pool.  I can not say enough about how hard they worked and how careful they were about doing a good job.
I would definitely recommend Xtreme Painting.

    Mark Hutchison Home Repairs
Represented himself as a professional and with experience, even provided pictures. angies list rated him A. no bad reviews. Some of these reviews may have been written by his friends. He met us at the store to pick out tile and electrical products.Had us open an account at the Home depot that he could charge supplies for our job.Real big mistake!!!!Not to go into detail but more than supplies for our job was charged!I was assured job would be finished by 10-10-2013, I was expecting out of town company. Our kitchen was gutted and ceiling was removed exposing the roofing rafters. It took him 4 weeks to rewire the ceiling for the lights, he said he was going to bring in a electrician for this, he did not.He said he needed to get a permit when we first interviewed him,he did notWe had to insist that he get the electrical done and the ceiling closed. It took 4 wks to get ceiling closed, all this time I paid an enormous electric bill.Tile was installed but they left the grout on too long and now we cannot get grout off tile.Cabinets were not in s talled per manufactureres directions, kitchen was not properly tapd and areas were left untouched by paint, new sliding glass door frame was painted over in some areas. Living room carpet was cut and was left..At this point,he was going to put acid on the kitchen time to remove grout but we could see the writing on the wall having an inexperienced person using this chemical was the breaking point .He was fired. We have a bare light hanging in the livingroom, it is partially mudded and we have a mess on our hands!Ceiling screws are poppoong out in the kitchen,ro system was a mess.I;m not only saddened by this but also saddened by counting on the ratings from Angies List
