I was referred to Dr. Peters from my Primary Care Doctor for problems with bladder infections and incontinence after the birth of my son. Dr. Peters ran a series of very thorough diagnostic tests. Her staff is very friendly and explain each step carefully so that you understand what is going on. They are also aware of how embarassing some urological topics are and they try to make you as comfortable as possible.. Dr. Peters is very kind and professional. She answers questions and takes time to make sure you understand the treatment options.

    Sokoloff, Dr. Mitchell
He uses a high-tech robotic techinique, which not everybody can do. The main thing is that the surgery was a success, so I'd say it was a good experience.

Dr. Iris is a data driven practitioner. Her approach regarding long-term health and health maintenance, I believe, is rooted in consistency: consistent visits, consistent testing, consistent data collection. It is best to "sign on" with her for the long haul. By doing so we have seen how the regular tests and exams she performs build a detailed picture of our conditions as we age. Sometimes the testing seems redundant and that's when we quiz her on her reasoning. She is always happy to explain and she is also flexible. If we don't feel it's necessary and she is doing a given thing as a "added measure," she will accommodate.  Iris will take as long as she needs with us, and her other patients. Sometimes this means we end up waiting a bit before she can get to us. We always bring a book because, frankly, we'd rather wait for a doctor whose willing to spend time with their patients than meet with a doctor who is schedule driven and allots limited time for consultation. Iris is all about staying current, with treatments and practices as well as the underlying technology that runs her office. Some may be put off by the fact that she is constantly looking down at her laptop and typing during your visit. Not us (we both have tech backgrounds). We see this integration of technology as tangible evidence that Iris is committed to staying current in her practice. We wish all medical professional were as accepting of advancing technology as Iris is. Sometimes we visit, for routine matters, and we may not see Iris at all. We do not see this as a problem as her nurse staff is top notch. Iris keeps her people trained and she has established processes that insure matters are addressed. Her nurse staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The front desk can seem a little terse. We don't think it's directed at us personally. Rather, it seem more like a brusque personality that lacks the professional discipline required to tone it down. It's a little off-putting. We have been seeing urologists for over 30 years, Iris is the best we've found. We highly recommend her.

One time she did not get all of the stone broken up in the procedure so she took me in again to finish the process. Then I was fine.

    John Yurkanin MD
Regarding my experience with him, generally I would like to give him an "A." Initially, when I first saw him he was kind of a standoffish, not very talkative, but as I got to know him more and went to his office multiple times he kind of lightened up and he was more talkative. So, my initial impression was negative but once I got to know him and he got to know me, everything kind of seemed to straighten itself out, and it has been very positive since then.

    Gretzer, Dr. Matthew
I have seen two other urologists in Tucson -- both of them have good ratings on Angie's List -- but on MY list, Dr. Matthew Gretzer is way ahead of them both. I have been seeing Dr. Gretzer for about 5 years, including one surgery to relieve age-related restricted urinary flow. He is a (relatively) young doctor specializing in Urology at the University of Arizona Medical Center and Medical School. He is very intelligent, compared to the average doctor (I'm an MIT graduate, so feel I can make that statement!) and he seems to have a broad knowledge of medicine beyond just his own specialty -- something that's increasingly rare these days! In addition, he is highly regarded as a teacher by his medical students (I spoke with two of them confidentially when I had the opportunity ;~) He has a pleasant smile and a natural and relaxed personality. But he is serious when he talks; not laid back ;~) He takes the time necessary to explain complex issues, and then to make sure his patient understands. He's careful to identify those 'gray areas' where medicine is more about intuition than science -- this can really help person to feel they can contribute/participate in their own healthcare decisions; instead of having those decisions imposed upon them by their doctor. And last, but very important, he is accessible. And when there are on-going issues, he contacts his patients quickly and personally; not through staff.

I was able to make an appointment within 4 days of calling to discuss my concerns about overactive bladder, as tentatively diagnosed by my GP. Wanted to get an expert opinion. After a brief wait, met Dr. Choi, a genial yet business-like M.D. who did a urine test and asked me many questions, taking careful notes. He told me the test was fine, which was reassuring. He questioned me carefully and determined I do not have OAB. We discussed both alternative and traditional medical steps to take for the mild symptoms I have, which come with aging. He gave sensible advice, is open to some alternative relief, and since leaving my problem has eased considerably.I would definitely see him again if needed.

During all my appointments with Dr. Berry, I was extremely pleased by his personality, his professionalism and his willingness to explain the details of my urological problem and the solution.  Best of all, the TURP procedure he performed took care of my problem and I have had no further need to be catheterized.  I recommend Dr. Berry without reservation.  I should also add that the nurses and Physicians Assistants who worked with Dr. Berry during my appointments were also both cordial and professional.
