Solar Panel Installation reviews in Tempe

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I had a hard time trying to find a company that would perform maintenance on solar panels, especially pool solar.  I contacted around 10 different companies and was finally referred to Kent @ General Solar.  Kent returned my call right away.  He came out to the house to give an estimate the next day.  Within two days from calling him, the solar panels on our roof were fixed.  It was also great that he had the panels in stock for the one which needed replaced.  I had contacted another company for an estimate that would have had to order the panel, which would take a couple weeks.
I had a very good experience with General Solar and would definitely use them in the future.
  • We were very impressed with this company: they were knowledgeable, professional and a pleasure to work with. The quotes were within range, and they even offer loans if you want to lower your upfront cost.
And besides, without doubt, they work with the most efficient panels on the market.  Thank you Mark !

  • Everything went fine when the technicians were installing the water heater and the panels. About a month afterwards I found out I needed to sign some paper work so I scheduled a time to sign it. Following that I found at two other times I needed to sign paper work. A few times my rep showed up at my house with no call, and if I didn't answer my phone, he would show up at my work and house looking for me. I thought it was very unprofessional and it was uncomfortable.

  • They do an energy consultant visit to do an energy audit. From there I got a solar hot water heater. They did a radiant barrier and cleaned my air ducts. They explained everything and the service was pretty fast. It has to pass the inspection by the FRP which is the local energy company to get your rebates. All the work that was done was good. They've been responsive to any questions I've had afterwards. The price is not cheap but over time I should recoup all the expenses I had.

  • See above.

Summer notes:  I am so pleased with Buehler Brothers' work.  Through mid-August, my electric bills have been only the cost of renting the SRP meter and related taxes, under $20 per month.

  • We wanted to extend the useful season of our pool, so we investigated some companies who install thermal solar panels for pool heating.  The Heliocol (Green Energy) sales rep arrived promptly and spent a couple hours with us, to discuss the design and mechanics of the heliocol panels.  He even came back over the weekend to help answer some additional questions.
They offered a very competitive price, which is even better after tax credits.   Their warranty is good: 12 years on all parts, 2 years on labor/install.
The installer also arrived promptly, and did a fast and professional-quality installation.   In addition to installing the panels and the controller, he set up the system so that we could run a water-feature from the same control panel.
We've used the system for a full season now, and so far it has worked very well, and roughly tripled our swimming season.

  • They were very helpful with explaining. I had never dealt with a solar water heater before. We looked at a couple of companies. It seemed like everybody was trying to sell the better mouse trap. He explained his design and the pros and cons. There was no pressure to make a decision. I had some questions to ask him, and he was helpful with explaining things in detail. The workers were excellent, courteous, and polite. They told us what would be happening. They finished in the time frame and were very good.

  • There were a couple of hiccups along the way, but the end result was good. They had some issues with communication, and all of their staff weren’t always on the same page. Their price was reasonable, since I had a lot of rebates.

  • This company was very professional and did an outstanding job.

The work performed was high quality and all wiring was hidden so the effect is very attractive.  This is very important because it is on the front of my house.

The only issue I had was that they told us that the entire price would be tax deductible but when we saw our tax advisor, she did not feel comfortable taking a deduction on the SRP rebate part.  To be fair, each of the solar companies that we interviewed said the same thing and the IRS did not provide guidance until after the tax year when we purchased.  It turns out that my tax advisor is correct so figure this into your financial decision. We have had NO problems with the system in 2 years of operation.

  • Note on price, APS paid another $8,000 their solar program, so it was a $20,000 job.
I met with a very knowledgable salesperson who had prepared himself well enough by looking at the roof over the internet to give me some clear idea what the job would entail during the first meeting.

The company took it through the queue at APS to qualify for their incentive funding, had their people come by to inspect the roof, etc and started on the job when all was ready.  I asked for all kinds of information at different points.  it didn't always come immediately but it did come in reasonable time.

Between the bid and the installation, I needed a new roof and did get a bid from American Solar as well as others.  When they made the roofing bid, they spent time discussing options for energy efficiency at my request.  It looks like they put great care into roofing as well as solar.
I went with another contractor for the roof who was able to fix and replace other unrelated items as well as redo the roof.  So I can't tell you about their roofing.

The actual solar installation did not drag out and the landscaping didn't suffer either.
They were very easy to work with, explained things well (including technical, tax incentives and other financial, etc.).  Real professional attitude and respectful of the customer.

They shared a lot of technical papers with me.  When I asked for explanation, it did come, though not always right away.  Everyone who I dealt with shared contact information so it was easy to find someone available to answer questions most of the time.

I was impressed with their quality control.  One of the advantages of doing it now, while the financial incentives are in place, is that APS and your city both look it over carefully so you get lots of quality control, even beyond the company.  It does mean that there are a bunch of people coming by over some time before it's turned on but the people were easy to deal with and often required nothing of me at all.

The panels are working like a dream.  The system has required nothing out of me since installation.  Electric bills have been about $10/month all spring.  This covers the cost to be connected to the grid via APS.  Credits for summer higher bills are accruing.  it looks like the payback period is likely to be shorter than what American Solar predicted.  Their predictions are conservative and they don't oversell.

It has panels on racks on the roof, wiring inside the attic to boxes on a wall.  You may want to consider where you want to put these once you learn their functions.  Often people put them in a garage but they can go somewhere else.  The box that controls this system has a slight hum.  I don't notice it unless I'm right by it.  I have had only positive feedback on the system and it's appearance.

One piece of advice with any company is to make sure you ask questions of the right people.  There are a lot of different people to interact with on a solar project and they specialize.
