Iron Work reviews in Scottsdale

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • We had a great experience with Allied Iron. They created a great design for the front door, helped us select the right finish, handles and glass. They were willing to help with re-powder coating the original gate to fix the issues at a reasonable cost - even though they weren't the original manufacturer. They were very knowledgeable, professional and responsive. If you want an iron/powder coated door or gate, we highly recommend Allied Iron!!

  • Could not have been more painless on our part.....great customer service prior to the actual work and Tim was terrific - installing , rekeying, rechecking his work, and all with a pleasant personality !

  • The process was amazing. We called Allied Gates and Jason came out to the house. He took some measurements and then came in and proceeded to show us pictures as well as view pictures of gates that we had seen on different websites. He compiled the ideas that we liked and did computer drawings of the potential gates tweaking the drawings as he went. He always returned phone calls promptly and answered all of our questions and concerns. Jason did not tells us what we wanted to hear; if we came up with an idea that wouldn't be feasible, Jason told us. We appreciated his honesty. The time that Jason took with us sealed the deal!

  • Allied Iron was completely responsive to all of my questions and concerns about this project.  They arrived on time and left the property just the way they found it.  During the very difficult installation, they didn't so much as leave a hand print on the doors or anywhere on the walls of the home.  They were polite, professional and very pleasant to have around.  I would recommend Allied Iron to anyone considering making esthetic or value improvements to their home.

  • Excellent job from the sales team and selecting exactly what we wanted to meeting the delivery commitment to the excellent and quality installation performed. Very happy with First Impressions and recommend to all!

  • Cannot say enough about how wonderful owner Ken and his talented crew are. We have a very strict HOA, and Ken helped us work through the process with humor and creativity. The installation was done right on time, right on budget, and it looks beautiful. We installed it for utilitarian purposes, but it has really enhanced the look of our small backyard and patio, thanks to a thoughtful and well executed design. This was a rather unusual project because if the curvy wall and a rock water feature. It looks fantastic, and the workmanship is impeccable. We will be calling them again when we are ready to build a courtyard gate.

  • Wonderful experience.  The attention to detail was amazing!  Everything went like clock work and the outcome was better than expected.  The door is a very high quality, custom door and the installation was quick, efficient and they were very clean.  I will definitely use them in the future.

  • I received a competitive estimate so I went forward with Sun King. Initially went well and Ken (owner) was very responsive and easy to get in touch with. I have an electric release strike plate for the gate and though Ken admitted having no prior experience with this type of lock, I was reassured this would not be a problem. This lead lead to a month delay in finding the proper lock and fitting for the gate. I had an initial install date of April 20 and the job was not completed until May 25. The cost of the gate also increased by $600 making the job more costly than some other estimates I received. Ken gave the initial bid based on a certain type of lock/handle despite knowing about the electric strike plate. He then had to order a different lock so the gate would work and this cost was passed on to me even though the mistake was due to his inexperience.

The delays and increase in cost were acceptable given that Ken was very communicative during the process and up front with his lack of experience having only owned the business for a year and a half. My main complaint is with the finish and color of the gate. When I had the initial consultation, I was given my options on gate color. Ken does not carry a black sample with him and did not mention the ability to color match any existing color until after the installation. Having no prior experience, I asked Ken for his recommendation and he said the dark brown would be the option that would go best with the house (even with some existing black iron work on the house). When the gate was installed, the "dark" brown was obviously very brown next to the existing black iron. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the color but he felt no obligation to refinish the gate despite the color being his recommendation AND that he did not have a black sample to show me AND never gave me the option for a color match. He simply gave me information for another company that could repaint the gate and proceeded to closeout and charge me the remaining balance.

Even though Ken was easy to deal with and very accessible, his lack of experience lead to delays, increase in cost, and a finished product that did not match well with the house. Although he admits to this, he claims no obligation to make the job right. I will now likely incur more costs to repaint the gate which will likely make the job more expensive than all the other bids that I received.

  • When he showed up to give an estimate for the job, he commented that, since our address was in Scottsdale, we should be able to afford $xxx (much higher than we had estimated).  When we said nothing, he gave us a more reasonable price, and we agreed to have him do the work.  When he came to do the work, he said for an additional amount he could re-paint the wrought iron screen door and the security frames on the windows.  Unless we re-painted them, he said, the new paint on the gate would stand out.  We agreed to the increased price for the additional work (mistake).

We didn't watch him do the job.  When he said he was finished, we looked at the section of the gate that was rusted and observed that it was repaired (not entirely evidently, because we're getting rust stains on the walkway when sprinklers hit the gate).  He didn't re-paint the door or window covers.  He just touched up the minor spots that had rusted.

  • The entire project, start to finish could not have gone more smoothly. We were able to view more photos of gate options in Shawn's portfolio when he came to the house. The work order/invoice was so detailed that we knew exactly what to expect. A color choice we were interested in for the frame wasn't in his samples so he dropped the sample off a few days later. The powder coating looks awesome, very smooth and even. At first we were hesitant to go with the composite wood, yet it looks great with the dark bronze powder coating - very low maintenance compared to our old wood gate.
The installer, Kyle was very polite, friendly and professional. He worked for a long time, getting everything just right. He had adjusted the lower part of the gate so it would close gently on it's own, without a "thump". He also showed us how we can adjust the closing of the gate, should we want to change it. It closes perfectly on its own.
The owner, Shawn went the extra mile by enhancing the look, esthetically, on the back or "yard" side of the gate. He could have charged extra for powder coating the large nuts/bolts on the back of the gate, yet didn't.. We're so pleased with our new gate, front and back side. We had recently bought a new deadbolt for our old wood gate. They polished it up, adding it to the new handle assembly and deducted $35. off the total for using our lock. It looks brand new and matches the handle perfectly. They did not charge for removing/hauling the old gate away. Our neighbors are so impressed, they asked for Sunset Gates name/number.
It's now been over a month since getting our new gate and we can't believe all the compliments we receive. Our pool man says he's now noticing gates and ours is the best looking he's seen!
