  • I have a '94 truck that's like showroom perfect and it's got very low mileage on it.  He's done a lot of work for the the last couple of years.  He's pretty busy so it took me a while to get in to see him, but once I did, everything was fine.  They do good work, prices are average, but I would go down and see him in a heartbeat.  It took a couple of days to get the work completed and their communication was very good.  The last job, he actually came in on Saturday, which was not scheduled work - just to finish the job for me.  He's done a couple of repairs for me, but basically it's just been front end alignment, stuff like that.

  • Kirby readily accommodated my need to be out of town and delay pick-up of the repaired vehicle. The service scheduler patiently, informatively responded on the phone to my questions and second-guessing (about their troubleshooting, which proved correct). When an additional part needed replacing--an oxygen sensor rusted to the converter--a similar informative phone discussion took place.

  • You can trust these guys I have gone to them for years  and many times  they have called to tell me you don't really need to have this work done. The are not looking for the quick buck! Recently took in my sonata for 40,00 miles check up and the owner manual recommended  changing the spark plug and wires- thought that was pretty funny at 40,000 but requested them to replace. They called me after checking with the manufacture and was not needed until 75,000. Also Had my Jeep in for brake check-they where squeaking.I asked to replace pads- Only needed an adjustment. Saved me several hundred. They have always done quality work on my vehicles.

  • it went ok.  I had asked them to change the oil too and they forgot.  The cost was a few hundred more than quoted and by that point, they had already taken the car apart.  So it didn't really leave us much option since we were paying for labor already.  The was was good, but the price was too much and they forgot to do part of the job.  By the end of the job, I just wanted to get my car back.

  • Their initial estimates were high -- risk of bent valves -- but when they got in there and checked it out, the cost wound up being about 20% of their low estimate.  On top of that, they found another problem while fixing the first and took care of that as well.  My car hasn't run this well in years!

  • They did a good job with the work. We don't live near them anymore, but I would use them again if we're in the area. They are very fair, and they back up their work. If something goes wrong with their work, they will take care of it. I also like that it's a family owned business.

    |The work was finished ON TIME and ON THE QUOTED FEE, and it appeared to have been accomplished professionally.

    |The technician was open and friendly, owner's wife (the reception person and cashier) was nice to work with. The owner appears to be a nice guy, though he doesn't say much and keeps pretty much to himself.

  • These people have been so accommodating.  They did the jobs asked for timely and efficiently and reviewed with me the work done and charges made.  Charges were more than reasonable.  They took time to explain the new auxiliary brake system, how it should be set up, and answered all my questions about it. Viable recommendations were made and alternatives were suggested with all considering my budget.

  • I took my one year old car to Theisens for an oil change.  I had purchased the car new. For the first two oil changes,
     I took my car to the car dealer where I purchased the car.  Since that dealer is located an hour's drive one-way from where I live, I decided to take my car to a local shop,Theisens, for the third oil change.
    After the service was completed, I drove my car back home, which is only five blocks away.  I noticed a terrible smell, but thought it was coming from the exhaust of the car in front of me.
    The next day, when I drove my car, the smell was unbearable, and there was no car in front of me, so I realized the odor was actually coming from my car!  The smell was so bad, that I had to put down all of the car windows just to breathe.  Since the outside temperature was in the 90s, it was very uncomfortable with the windows down.  At the time, I was thinking that some oil must have gotten on the motor, or something similar, and that it would burn off quickly and that would be the end of it.  However, the next few times that I drove my car, I had a similar experience.
    I also noticed that I had oil stains on my driveway that previously did not have any stains at all.  I purchased a chemical oil stain remover, and special protective gloves to treat the stains.  However, the stains did not fully disappear, and the concrete that I treated came out lighter that the rest of the concrete around it.  So it ended up looking even worse, and our house is up for sale.  We certainly didn't want dark oil stains detracting from the curb appeal of our house.
    Over the next few days the inside car odor got much better, but additional oil stains appeared in the driveway.  The driveway now looked horrible with the oil spots that I had already treated with the chemical, and now additional dark oil stains.  I was having sincere regret taking my car to Theisens for a simple oil change.
    Because oil was still leaking from the car onto the driveway, I called Theisens, explained the problem, and made another appointment.   The person at the check-in desk told me that he was the one who had worked on my car.  I was impressed with his honesty.  He examined the car and said that a little part (I can't remember the name of it) had become misshapen during previous oil changes and that it needed to be replaced.
    Now, I don't know anything about cars, but I find it highly unusual that an expensive new car, that has had only 
    2 previous oil changes ever, and those changes were done at the dealership where I purchased the car, would have an oil part already worn out.  It didn't make sense to me.
    I have owned cars for years and years, and I have never experienced difficulty breathing after an oil change that was so bad that I had to lower every window in 90 degree temperatures.  And I have never had oil leak onto the driveway before.  Especially on a 1 year old car with just a few miles on it.  That didn't add up to me.  
    I was not charged anything for the replacement of the little part.  However, I was thinking that Theisens might refund my money for the original oil change, or give me a coupon for a free oil change, or something else.  Especially since I had to spend additional money and time on the chemical & gloves to remove the oil stains from the driveway.  But nothing was offered to make me feel better about servicing my car at Theisens.  
    I am now hoping that there is not any permanent damage to the air filtration system, or the air conditioner, since the odor through the air vents was so extreme.  And I hope the engine parts aren't all gummed up with excess oil.  My car was so clean and nice before I took it to Theisens for an oil change.
    What a mistake!  I should have driven the distance back to the car dealership to get the oil changed.

  • Helfer's is amazing! They are great with emergencies and unexpected problems, and great with regular service. They are knowledgeable and professional.
    They let us know ahead of time what is wrong with the car and the approximate cost to fix it.
    They let us know when they see other potential problems, and give us an approximate time line for how long the car will function properly before the fix will need to be done. If it's a fix that needs to be done immediately for safety purposes, they tell us. If not, that allows us time to put aside money for the upcoming future fix.
    They have examined used cars that we were interested in purchasing, and have informed us of any problems they found, and they have done that service for free.
    Once when we took in one of our cars that had a problem, Helfer's examined the car and told us they would be fixing it for free because they had done a repair two years earlier that should have lasted longer! That repair was several hundred dollars, and they did it for free because they are so honest, and guarantee quality work.
    Helfer's understands that we need our cars, so they always manage to work us in when we have an unexpected problem, and they get the work done as fast as possible, doing quality work.
