  • As of today, Jan. 26/15..On the Better Business Bureau's website is the message There is an alert on Right at Home Repair and Remodeling According to information in BBB files this business is no longer in business.  I tried to contact the business on both phone numbers given on his various business sites & the message is both mailboxes are full.
1st:  the Tiling.  Brent convinced us that the best way to lay tile would be to remove all the baseboards & replace them, in that way the baseboards would lay flat on the tile & so we paid extra for this.  Well, that didn't happen because there are large gaps between the tile & the baseboards in all the rooms.  The widening of the doorway as specified in the contract to be widened to measure 43"  was only widened to measure 36".  When we arrived back in Phoenix in May a couple of months after the job was finished we saw the doorway had not been widened. For 2 days we tried to contact him as to why it hadn't been. The phone number he gives as his company's, when called, there is no identification of any company just a canned voice to leave a message.  We emailed many times before he finally emailed us back with the question 'what is the issue with the doorway'.  When we told him, he claimed it couldn't be widened because there was a king stud & he would have had to remove some of the kitchen cupboards in order to accommodate the widening to 43" & there would have been added expense.  We said that he should have contacted us because it should be our call as to whether we would go for the added expense or not. We didn't believe his story so we had two other contractors go through & they could see no reason that the doorway couldn't be widened to 43"...no king stud in sight.  When this was told to Brent he said it was due to a scissor truss & if he widened it the ceiling & walls would crack.  One of the cinderblock walls was not moved 40' forward but only 35'.  When questioned about this he said he had contacted the HOA & they had a contractor's 5' setback requirement. I didn't believe him because there are other houses in the sub-division who have had their block walls moved to the face front of their houses.  Plus we had HOA approval to move the walls.  However,  I contacted the HOA....no such thing as I suspected.  He then changed his story to he had called the city & they had a setback requirement.....I emailed the city citing our plot # plus attached our plot map & asked if there was a setback requirement....in writing they said that as long as the wall was not moved past the face of the house....no setback.   The other cinderblock wall, instead of a drainage grade level cinderblock installed on the bottom row, a decorative block was put in, the type that is usually used on a top row. This means that water has to rise over two inches before it can reach the holes in the decorative block & so the water is now draining under the gate eroding the gravel & creating a groove in the ground.  Plus it does not match the other drainage cinderblock on the other wall nor any others in the subdivision & so it looks odd & stands out. We noticed there was a streaky look to the ceilings in the kitchen, dining room & great room. When the painter came to finish the job in the closets we asked  him why they are streaky, his reply was because it is a good quality paint & it takes time for it to dry completely, huh.  At the same time we found out from him quite by chance that the bathroom walls in both bathrooms had not been prepped properly because he lamented that they had to put three coats on...not so much because the walls had been painted dark colours before but because the paint was beading up which happens due to hairspray build-up i.e. the walls had not been washed & prepped.  There was paint slopped on the window frames, light fixtures & pooled in corners of walls over counters in the bathrooms & the kitchen. The last time we saw Brent is when we complained about the grout disintegrating between some tiles & he came on the pretext of looking at the problem but really wanting to be paid for the paint job.  This I gather is what he claims was a walk-through & that we discussed these items...what we discussed was why he had not moved the wall & widened the doorway. And if he ran into issues why had he not contacted us, the only time he ever contacted us is when he wanted money. Ever hear of communicating with your customer. I filed a complaint with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors regarding all of this.  When we were back in AZ in Oct. the AROC investigator attempted to arrange an on site visit with Brent & us so Brent could present his reasons for not carrying through on what was agreed on.  Brent did not show up. The investigator looked at the pantry door, didn't see a scissor truss & said the other two contractors were right that there was no reason it couldn't be widened.  He also looked at the streaky ceilings & said the most likely reason for it was that the spray gun used had clogged nozzles.  By chance, the mason we had hired to move the cinderblock wall to where we had originally paid Brent $1317 to move it i.e. 40', was present when the investigator was at the house.  The investigator talked with the mason who told him that the proper way to build a block wall is to put mesh wire every second row to ensure that it wll be stable & he showed the investigator that there was no mesh wire to be found.  And so the wall was not stable.  The investigator checked the other wall but said we probably had nothing to be worried about since there was a gate & the wall was not as wide as the other one. The investigator was surprised to learn that Brent had not tried to come to some sort of resolution with us.  We pointed out that every time we attempted to contact him he would go to ground & ignore our emails. There are more issues we encountered with him but these are the top of the list. We know we won't get any money back from him but we want to ensure that no one else has to experience this & end up paying twice for the same job because it wasn't done right in the first place.

  • I contacted Handy Hero on the 21st of Oct, stating I would need approximately 3 to 4 tiles installed due to a vanity that was removed from the guest bathroom.  I stated I had two tiles only and that the individual would have to get the other tiles to complete the job. I heard back from the company on the 22nd and they stated they could come out the next day.  Quick turnaround, I appreciated that.  Unfortunately I had a painter coming by to paint the room so I asked if they could come on Friday instead.  I didn't get a response so I contacted them again, now Thursday.  I asked if they were coming on Friday and they responded saying yes but could not give me a time frame as yet; would call within a 30 minute window.  On Friday, a call came in around 1:00 pm to say someone would come out between 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
2:00 pm came and went, so did 3:00 and 4:00pm.  Please note that the double sink vanity had been removed along with the light fixtures since we were re-doing the bathroom.  The only light was the bulb over the tub/shower but since the hours of work were to be performed between 2-4, I figured there would be enough light and we have a solutube installed in the ceiling for more light.  At 5:00 pm, we get a call and the driver says he's on his way but there is an accident and he is being re-routed.  Several phone calls later and he arrives at 7:00 pm.  He didn't bring any grout to do the job and had to make a trip to Home Depot.  We were able to locate another tile which totaled 3 but if the job had called for 4 as we stipulated, the job would not have been completed.  I don't know how this person planned to do the job without all the equipment required.  He finished at 9:00.  He left a big gap from the wall but said the baseboard should cover it.  In looking at the grout work, it was sloppy.  Maybe there wasn't enough light?  But if he had come at the proper time, there would have been plenty.  Also, when asked why he was so late, he stated we were scheduled for 4:00 - 6:00.  Not happy with the work and especially not happy having to wait all day for someone to show at the appropriate time.

  • I am a disabled Veteran confined to a wheelchair.  I contacted  Camelback Contractors because they have worked with Veteran Affairs to do home modifications .  In fact I used this company on my first home with no problems.  However that was not the case this time around.

I have be granted a modification grant from the VA in the amount of 67K to get my home equipped for my disabilities. This company came out to my home, did an assessment, took photos and measurements and then... Never  followed through on producing a bid.  They completely fell off the face of the earth or at least refused to respond to my attempts of communication.

My wife emailed over 20 times and even placed multiple phones calls. In fact- she supplied them with a copy of a bid from another contractor (something that is not customary) so that it may aid in their proposal. Still no response.  As I stated- I have disabilities that produces daily struggles in my life - a communication with a Contractor or company should not be an additional burden. Communication  is something that is important. This company completely fell off and did not provide a reason as to why. Wasting my time .  Invading my personal space with strangers and producing no proposal as a result, the only result being frustration.

  • Well let me say... I should have reviewed this company a long time ago
I have used them multiple times since 2010 for interior house painting. They have painted the whole interior of 3 of my rental properties and done some touch up interior paint work on my rentals over the last 4 years. They do such an amazing job at a very competitive price that i have them scheduled to do the interior house paint on my primary residence. They do great paint work and even better do a good cleaning after themselves when the work is all done. They say you don't really know how great a company is until you had an issue that needs to be resolved. I had that experience on one occasion, where we had discussed the paint touch up and pricing but there was an issue on what had to be painted. I know with touch up interior painting there is room for misunderstanding but Brian Brown did an amazing job of taking care of the whole issue. They painted the rooms to my expectation and promptly and did not charge me anything extra. I was very impressed at how they handled the situation and i have since used them for a whole house interior paint job and plan on using them again next month.
If you a looking for a painter i would highly recommend you give them a call. They can be busy at times and you may have to wait a few weeks before getting your job done but overall they are a great painting company.

  • I spoke with the provider to schedule a painting for a Big Deal I purchased, and he told me I needed to email his wife to get it scheduled. I didn't want to have to email someone to get the appointment scheduled. I paid for this on October 3, 2013, and I only just heard from them today. I did not do any business with this company, so I can't say one way or the other if they're a good company to work with.

  • Doug came to the house to measure the job. He quoted me $1 per square foot (ave in the industry) to paint all the walls inside my home. He was very friendly and stayed no longer than needed. His crew showed up on time, correctly prepped before painting. Since the home was empty I left the key with the head painter with instructions to lock up and turn on the outside lights when he left. I came by after they left each night to see nothing but professionalism. These guys worked their tails off and did a fantastic job. Yes, all my doors were locked and the requested lights were turned on. The company takes credit cards over the phone, making this task too easy to complete and check off my list as I prepare to move into my home.

  • We were immediately impressed with Cary's professionialism, honesty and willingness to give advice.  You know immediately he is someone you can trust and rely on.  He gave his advice without pressuring you to accept it and it was always appreciated.  Cary was flexible - even when we changed paint suppliers after we had signed the deal.
The job looks great (we've had lots of compliments on it) and Cary held true to his word to fix any issue that came up.  When we had a few minor issues, he was kind enough to come back and help us out.  I would use Shoap Painting again without hesitation and I highly recommend them to anyone who is considering having their home painted.  It was a great experience (and that's unusual) and it's much appreciated.

  • Chad and his team were punctual and very professional. I am very busy and i only had to show up on the job site 3 times. Once before they began, one time during the painting to see the progress and at the end.Chad and his crew did a very good paint job, I also trusted them to open and lock the property each day and they also cleaned and vacummed after themselves which is extremely important. Their price was also one of the best i received and i would definitely recommend them and use them again for interior painting.

  • After 26 years in the same home, we have seen many service people come and go... Bila is by far the best tradesman we have ever seen. He shows up on time and puts in a full day every day. He even brought along a $25 Contractor's discount coupon for Lowe's. Never a complaint about doing another task which I'd forgotten when he made his estimate. I intend to use him for all my future painting needs.

  • Amazing job! The whole staff were very professional and knowledgeable! The outcome of the job exceeded my expectations ten fold! The amount of money I saved and with increased sell price, well, I couldn't ask for more. We just wanted to liquidate a trashed headache of a property that was shameful. It turned out so nice, I was proud to have a family buy it and live there!
