    Verde Valley Rentals
We planned in advance with this company to rent a backhoe for a specific date when some of our friends could help us with the project (they are construction jocks).  We traveled to the offices of the Verde Valley Rentals two weeks in advance and gave our charge card, filled out forms and we were promised the backhoe would be delivered the following Friday afternoon for a full weekend rental.  ON Thursday, we were notified by telephone that there was a "screw up" and that the equipment would not be available for us to use.  They promised we could use it the following week -- any WEEK DAY we wanted.  We explained that we had friends helping us and they needed it for the specific date we reserved it for.  The equipment was not available for that date.  So they promised us the following weekend, which was Memorial Day.  (Some people want to be with their family out of town for a three day weekend...)  But we agreed to switch to that weekend.  On Friday, of Memorial Day weekend, a man called from VVR telling me that the equipment would not be delivered until Saturday at Noon.  (Which means we lose most of Saturday)  But, he insisted, we get the equipment for three full days!  (Not true, not true -- and besides, my husband has to work on Monday like most of the guys helping us)  This man who apparently runs the VVR Equipment side, basically told us that we needed to be thankful and HAPPY ABOUT IT because we were getting the best deal ever and that we should even tip our delivery guy some pop and a pizza!  What a jerk!  My husband called these people back and attempted to explain that "the weekend rental" had been represented to us as starting on Friday night with the delivery so a full day of Saturday work was expected out of it.  They didn't care about that -- they claimed they NEVER deliver on a Friday afternoon for a weekend rental, it's always delivered on the day of the rental.  And the longer my husband talked to him, the more condescending and mocking this guy became.  It was completely unprofessional.  He even hung up on me when I insisted that he explain how the "terms" of the delivery had changed so drastically without our agreeing to them. (You have to pay a hefty price for the delivery of the equipment)  However, this is the ONLY local company that rents big equipment left in our area and THEY KNOW IT.  So now they are pretty much insisting that paying customers kiss their behinds when they finally do agree to deliver.  They didn't care that we (the customer) had friends who were inconvenienced by the change of dates and the fact that we could not start the project Saturday morning!  Now the project will HAVE TO TAKE two days on a HOLIDAY WEEKEND!  How unfair is that?

I have used portable toilet suppliers for approximately 30 years.  Without a doubt, this is the worst I've ever encountered.  We were always running out of paper and the paper they provided was the thinnest single ply tissue I've ever seen.   You had to wad it up to keep your fingers from going through.    I started using this supplier on this job in 2008.   It was a long term project.  Suddenly and without notice in 2012, this supplier pulled his unit.  My people showed up and had no toilet facilities.  I called Banana Jons and they didn't return my call for days.  They finally tersely informed me that they didn't want to service the area in which I was working anymore.    No notice of any kind!  No apology, just "too bad."     I had to suspend work on the project for over a week until I was able to find a new portable toilet provider. After this happened I checked with other people and was told that this guy does this all the time.  He gets mad for some reason then pulls his unit, knowing full well it will bring your construction project to a halt.     I understand that he has the right to discontinue service, but he should have given me notice and time to find a replacement.    Absolutely a terrible provider.  Beware.

    Volvo Rents
We rented a backhoe in January and it went well.  We rented again in March. They sent us an older used smaller backhoe. It had a power issue. My husband was using it by our creek. It could not power to walk sideways, and set above a rock. The drive line broke or came out and was flipping around. It dented the oil pan and broke a hydrolyck line. We called the company and they were very prompt in sending a newer one to replace the broken one.  The delivery personell drug the broken one up our steep drive way. Left it parked on the incline. It started rolling back and the delivery personell ran and jumped in and set the brake 4 feet from a 12 foot drop into our creek. They then drug it some more. Sideways, foreward, etc. Could not get it out of the drive way.  They backed the low boy up and drug it up to the top of the road. That is were the employee then decided to start it and drive it the rest of the way out of the drive way.  It sounded fine engine wise. We discussed charges and they said the fuel and rent would be prorated to the running backhoe. They loaded it and left. While they were delivering the one that broke: I am very thorough and asked the delivery person if it had insurance in event of damage by us or from any breakage not our fault. He showed me on my invoice where we paid for both types of insurance. Josh from Volvo Rents calls my husband and tells him we owe $2131.81 in damages. I go in a few days later and inquire why. Remind him of what the employee says.  He tells me he was aware of what his employee said. Said he mis understood the insurance policy and tells me the insurance does not apply. Apologises and says he is aware of that. Insists we owe that. I let him know the customer (me) feels like I am getting the dull end of a knife. Customer should be right. He says he is sorry I was mis informed and I must pay. Again I tell him his employee said it is covered. He says no. Back and forth we go. I asked him to at least meet me half way on it. He said he did. I ask him who is doing the work. He said his new mechanics. I then asked for him to wave the labor charges since it is in house repairs. He says no.  He is not willing to budge.  I write the check. He gives me an itemized bill. My husband goes over the bill and finds "Repaired driveline for the unit. ALSO replaced dameged oil pan with new gasket had to replace pinion and gear on front axle because it was sheared off when driveline was broke also front seal on yoke was changed out".  My husband feels excessive things were fixed and we are being charged for them. I called my attorney. He said in the state of Az, verbal warranties with an oral modification of contract is modified it then replaces the original contract. Volvos' delivery employee did this when he told me it is covered under insurance. I was advised to not pay. I went to the rental office on Friday, and requested my check back.  When I did they asked why and i told the acting supervisor why. He started to verbally batter me. Started escallating his voice and said they would then send me a bill for twice as much since they only billed me half. This was never told to me prior.  The man kept brow beating me. I finally said send it. I then left with my check in hand.  I will not rent from them ever again.
