Dr. Damore performed a double laparoscopic hernia repair. The initial consultation went well. Dr. Damore examined my issues, detailed the procedure required, and reviewed the associated risks and recovery. I had the procedure a few weeks later and it went smoothly. The Dr met with me in prep and explained exactly what he was planning to do, and afterwards in recovery to go over how it all went. I had no complications, and my recovery went pretty much as Dr. Damore described, except with less pain. I attribute the success of my procedure to Dr. Damore's great skill as a surgeon and highly recommend him.

I am a self pay, meaning I have no health care insurance. In order to find a board certified surgeon experienced in general surgery I joined Angie's List. The surgeons practice also needed to work with a self pay. Angie's List was of no help at all. The health care portion of AL is very limited. Left to my own devices I called most of the ambulatory surgery centers in metro Phoenix. I am exceptionally healthy and of and quot;normaland quot; weight so I knew that this procedure would be acceptable out patient. First cut the surgery center would have to accept a self pay and provide a discount for same. Second they would have to work with surgeons and anesthesiologists that also accept a self pay and provide a discount. And I wanted an experienced board certified surgeon. I figured if the certified surgeon would work with the surgery center the surgery center would be up to snuff also. No easy task it turned out. Even getting someone in the health care business to talk price is a daunting task. And they all claim that they don't know what anyone else charges or if they accept a self pay. They won't even tell you what their service costs until you are in their office and have already agreed to pay whatever the initial consult costs. They won't even tell you what the initial consult costs! After much searching, phone calls, call backs etc, my choice was: ARROW SURGICAL (Dr Smith), and BANNER HEALTH SURGICENTER (1040 E. McDowell, Phx) and the Surgicenters resident anesthesiologist. With insurance my surgery would have cost ~ $8 K. I paid $4K total. All three of these providers in my opinion provided exceptional and flawless service. I have completely recovered and have no complications. I won't tell you what I think of the health insurance industry. But I know the medical field is brimming with fine professionals who would love to work for us and not the insurers. Every single staff person who worked with or cared for me during my surgery was professional, competent and caring. One minor problem has been the Arrow Surgical (parent co) billing department keeps sending bloated and incomprehensible bills for services rendered that I have already paid in full in advance. In full being half price which seems to baffle the billing department. So far the local staff has managed to straighten it out have honored their word. This could be really bad for an elderly patient with out assistance.

He was unable to operate on my husbands throat tumor because of its location but he placed a feeding tube and gave us great advice on how to proceed. He was so friendly, knowledgeable and kind. We were very lucky to have found him during this horrible time.

    Victor Zannis MD
Tell a woman that she might have breast cancer and life as she knows it ends. Fortunately, for those lucky enough to find Dr. Vic Zannis -a surgeon who now devotes himself to breast surgery - the transition to a new life is handled with sensitivity, immense patience and vast experience. Walking into Dr. Vic's office with my husband was probably one of the scariest things I've ever done. But the stress starts to be mitigated as soon as you walk into the chintz-filled waiting area. The staff members, dressed casually but professional to match Dr. Vic's love of Hawaiian shirts, are pleasant and efficient. They feel like real people. You first meet with Dr. Vic in his office - not an exam room - where he lays out a possible course of what might happen in broad generalities. After he has learned some of your personal concerns, mine being that I had lost a brother to cancer just two months before, he asks a nurse to take you into an exam room. With xrays I had brought with me from the mammography, he does a review of the slides, then an exam. After due time, he suggests a needle biopsy to determine if it is cancer or not. Unlike many other doctors, Dr. Vic does his own needle biopsies, so he can see first hand with what he's dealing with. When the results of the biopsy were back (almost a week later), we called him from a planned vacation. He gave me the briefest of responses, then said call him back when we got to the hotel, and gave me his home phone, pager and cell phone. Once at the hotel, he had my husband get on one phone, with me on the other, to determine the next steps. It was a lumpectomy. When the results of the lumpectomy came back "without clean margins," he said I needed a mastectomy - and provided several recommendations for plastic surgeons he worked with to start the reconstruction process from the day of the mastectomy. Dr. Vic is a gift to any woman who is lucky enough to come into contact with him as a physician. You are treated with respect, and as an individual - not a case number. I was fortunate in that my cancer was caught early. I was also fortunate in that Dr. Vic was my Breast Specialist/Surgeon.

The surgeries are covered by our insurance company. Everybody is great. I actually had carpal tunnel surgery in one hand which handled by a hand specialist and one doctor did my rotator cuff surgery. My wife also underwent knee surgery with her knee doctor and she has post-op knee rehabilitation service which they also provide there. For me for the two surgeries I have would be “A” all the way down.

    Terry Simpson MD,FACS
The surgery was simple, fast and easy. I was told what to expect at every turn. Dr. Simpson answers texts/emails at hours when I never would expect a doctor to be available. He clearly cares about his patients. I can't imagine using anyone else and tell everyone I know to use him because he is the best.

    Jennifer O'Neill MD
There is not a more purpose-driven doctor with a better bedside manner out there! She wants to improve the quality of health care available to women one patient at a time. She is confident and competent without arrogance. Dr. O'Neill is one of the best listeners in any medical specialty I have met anywhere. She asks question after question to help the patient come to their own conclusion about how best to proceed with her own care. Very empowering!!
