    Walker Construction/Nelson Walker
On April 1, 2014 my husband signed a contract with Walker Construction (Nelson Walker, general contractor) to pour a
concrete driveway and construct a brick mailbox.  My husband asked if he was licensed and bonded and he said ?Yes?.  Mr. Walker
collected $3,500.00 up front and the contract stated that the rest of the money would be due when the concrete was called to the job site.  Mr. Walker promptly scrapped the gravel from the driveway and put up a couple of forms the same day he collected the
money.  After repeated calls, he did not come back to do any work on the driveway at that time.  On April 22 he came and collected the rest of the money, saying that ?we were getting a driveway the next day.?  We told him it was calling for rain, but he said ?No, it?s not going to rain.?  It rained and we didn?t get the driveway.  We found out later from the concrete company that he did not have any concrete ordered for that day.  After numerous calls to Mr. Walker, he showed up for two hours on May 7 and poured two loads of concrete.  Then he left, stating that ?It was just too much concrete to pour in one day.?  Since that day, he has not showed back up at the job site at all.  It has been abandoned.  He has left us with a huge mess in our yard, with gravel piled everywhere.  We have had to park in a neighbor?s driveway and walk to our house for 105 days now.  The two loads that he poured are a grossly inferior product.  When I told him this, he said, ?If it doesn?t have cracks in it, that?s all I?m worried about.  The rest of it is just your opinion.?
The week of May 18 ? 24 it was very dry, and we made numerous calls and he made promises that we were ?getting the rest of the
driveway that week.?  When asked why he never showed up, he said ?I was doing someone else?s roof this week.?  The last contact we had with Mr. Walker was on May 23, when he told my husband, ?You said that as long as you got a driveway by August it
would be fine.?  My husband never said that!  The next day we sent a certified demand letter to him asking for our money back.
He never signed for the letter.  We sent it first class mail and he has not acknowledged that he received it and has made no contact with us since May 23.  In summary, he has taken $7,200.00 from us, with the promise of a completed driveway and brick mailbox and we have nothing but two loads of inferior concrete.  He has abandoned the job site since May 7.  We sought the opinion of two professional contractors who state that it is an unacceptable job.  According to the Contractor?s Licensing Board, he is not bonded, although he stated to my husband that he was.  The uneven terrain he left in our yard has caused me to fall which resulted in several minor injuries and a deep scratch in my prescription glasses (which cost $350.00) which caused me to have to replace them.  Over the 105 day period, he either couldn?t be reached, or made promises of pouring a driveway but never actually showed up to work on it.  We made repeated calls to him (sometimes 15 a week) with no answer.  It has been a terrible experience.  I hope that by reporting him potential customers will be warned to never hire Nelson Walker or Walker Construction for anything, because you will either get an inferior product, no product at all, or just plain get your money stolen from you.  In our case, we got all three.
