Braun's Home Repair And Remodeling Inc
5 years ago my husband and I had a leak in our dining room ceiling. So, we called Braun to give us an estimate to repair the problem. He came out and recommended we replace our roof that wrapped around our porch and went over our dining room as it was in pretty bad shape and had almost no pitch to it. He gave us an estimate and we agreed to the work. Well, as the work progressed we found other areas that needed attention and wound up replacing windows on the back of the house, replacing our water heater with the newer tankless style, fixing a weird spot on our back roof where leaves would collect, residing the back of the house, etc... The work went on for quite a while. In the beginning, everything was great. Braun and his crew showed up every day, ready for work and seemed to be doing a very good, high quality job. But, as time progressed, they began skipping days, then weeks. We found out he started scheduling other jobs during ours and had to go work on them at the same time. We had one week when they didn't show up where we had to string tarps on the back of the house to keep the rain out because there was a gaping hole left exposed where work was still being performed. Toward the end of job, things started getting a little sloppy. Braun knocked a hole in the linoleum on the bathroom floor and just left it that way. Also, when I pointed out a nail that had worked it's way out of the sheet rock in our bathroom ceiling, he just took a hammer and whacked at it, missing a couple of times and leaving dents and marks on the ceiling. Again, he just left it that way. The money started running out, so Braun had to leave a couple of things unfinished, like the inside framing around two of the windows. Honestly, it wouldn't have taken much for him to finish them, but I think he was sick of working on our house, so he made it sound like it would be a whole day's work for him to come back and finish. We just told him never mind. By that time, we were sooo ready for him to be done. I was tired of calling him after getting home from work and finding that he and his crew had never shown up that day. We just wanted the job to be finished already. We felt like it drug on forever!!!! Also, because we kept tacking jobs on as we went along and didn't get written estimates, we didn't realize how much we were spending. Braun was horrible at keeping track of receipts and providing copies of labor logs. So, we were really at his mercy when it came to paying.

Well, you'd think we'd learn our lesson. Wrong. After swearing we'd never hire him again, 4 years later we found ourselves in need of some interior work and only a few short weeks in which to get it completed. We had gutted a room and needed it put back together before family came to visit. I called Braun and asked if his schedule was open. He assured me he was in a slow period with no other jobs scheduled. He looked over the job and gave us a written estimate (I learned this time around to get it in writing and not add any other jobs to the list without first getting an estimate). We agreed and his crews showed up and began the work. Just like the first time, they came everyday and worked full days. Then, as the job progressed they began showing up later and later and then missing days. We had to lock our cats up in the back room and leave the house unlocked every morning when we left for work so the crew could get in. We would come home to find the guys had never shown up and our house was vulnerable to someone just walking in and robbing it! One day we came home at lunch and found our front door standing wide open and no one around. The guy had left an hour earlier and wasn't returning for the rest of the day. He hadn't closed the door tight. If we hadn't come home for lunch, it would have stood open all day long! Another time I went upstairs to see how things were progressing and I found the attic door standing wide open and pushed up against an exposed light bulb that had been left on. The spot where the door touched the bulb had turned black and was very hot to the touch. Again, no one was around. The guy had just left it that way and had left for the day. If we hadn't come home at lunchtime it could have burned down our house!!! Needless to say we were not happy! We found out he had starting booking jobs during ours AGAIN and was putting them at a higher priority than ours. It was maddening!!! Time was running out until our family arrived and we still had a lot of work left to do. I had to remind Braun of this over and over again. The stress was horrible! They actually worked on our house and didn't finish until 1 hour before our family arrived. Next time I weaken and think I will hire him again, I will go back and reread this account and then smack myself in the head!

UPDATE: We just had another contractor come and replace siding on the back of our house that Braun had put on 5 years ago. There is a small porch roof that attached to the back of the house. Braun had reroofed the small porch roof and tacked the flashing up on the OUTSIDE of the siding, causing water to collect behind it and rot the wood. We didn't realize this till about a year ago when the siding started rotting. We called our new favorite contractor from AllPro Residential and asked him to come fix it. The siding was so rotten, it just crumbled into little pieces. I can't believe the shoddy work we got from Braun!

Cody's Drywall Repair & Home Maintenance
Cody is dishonest. His estimate means nothing.. He'll total disregard what he agreed on. Doesn't keep his work. Once he got the money he was finished with me.
