  • On Friday, April 29th, 2016 I had a minor fall at my home that was undergoing major renovations. I slipped on my side and caught my fall on my arm. Though my arm and leg hurt, I was more concerned about the cut above my eyebrow, which was the result of a shard of tile lying around - (Since this cut was on my face I desperately wanted to avoid any possible scar) I thought I may have needed stitches. I called the Med Express Clinic on Chenal Parkway ahead to confirm that there was a doctor on staff and drove over to get examined and treated. I would like to make it clear that during the accident there was no blow to my head. I knew that I did not require a trip to the ER or a CT scan of my head. I came to this clinic for what should have been a quick, simple treatment, and ended up with a whole lot of wasted time, money and aggravation. What I did not receive was any examination whatsoever. Though the clinic was clean, the waiting room was comfortable, and the administrative staff were nice, THE DOCTOR, (Barbara Perry) WAS A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. I have never in my life come across a doctor with such horrible bedside manners. She was rude, she was abrupt, she was accusatory and she was offensive. Even after I explained to her how the accident happened, reiterating over and over that there was no blow to my head, she still accused me of lying and refused to even examine me. First of all, who would lie about something so serious? A head injury is not something to take lightly. But a minor cut which I believed may have required a couple of stitches is not grounds for the ER, which is where she told me to go. After being spewed out of the doctor's office, I begrudgingly drove myself to the ER where I met with more than one doctor who both laughed off the cut above my eyebrow. Turns out that I did not need stitches at all. But the real issue was with my arm. I had fractured it. This injury was completely overlooked by the doctor at the clinic because she refused to even examine my arm. I want to be clear that it wasn't just Dr. Perry's refusal to examine me that made the experience so terrible - maybe it's her personal protocol, or maybe she doesn't feel comfortable doing in-office stitches. It was her inappropriate behavior and awful bedside manner that really threw me off. This person should not be in the business of helping people. And to make the experience worse, now my issues with MedExpress go way past just one doctor. When I walked out of the office the administrative staff assured me I would not be charged for the visit and to confirm this I requested a number for their corporate branch to confirm I was not charged for a visit where I was refused even a basic examination, and would now have to pay for a substantially more expensive Emergency Room visit. They made me wait 30 minutes while looking for the number. The administrative staff kept quietly apologizing for the doctor's inappropriate conduct. It was clear to me based on the administrative staff's reaction that this doctor has a bad history/reputation. After being assured by the admin that I would not be charged for the visit as I did not receive any examination by the doctor and was referred to the emergency room they have billed my insurance $210 and I received a letter from a collection agency demanding payment of an additional $50 or my credit will be impacted. turns out they had already reported "Non payment, delinquency" to the credit agencies even before I received that letter. I am in the process of disputing this, but the head ache of it all is far worse than any injury I had. I understand this is a business, however, I recommend going elsewhere if you are ever in the unfortunate position of needing urgent care.

  • The care is excellent but the environment is horrible, the soonest time to get an appointment is horrible.  Their billing is a nightmare.  I would never choose to go there even if I had to.  All I can say is that you can get excellent health care there and I am talking about outpatient care and I have no experience with in-patient care.  If you don’t have insurance, their prices are outrageous.  The physician I saw was excellent, but the supporting staff, the wait time and the cost are terrible.  In the process of the examination, they discovered that they needed to remove a plug of earwax and that was very efficiently done.  I was escorted to another office for the procedure and it was charged as a surgical procedure, for something that took two minutes of time, for something that could have been done in their outpatient office in your routine visit.  It should have been minimal and I was charged $106 for it, it was ridiculous, they charged me for the room and everything that went with it.  It took them forever to sort the billing.  I would use them if I needed to be treated by a physician there for a serious medical condition but I would try to avoid using the hospital if I could just because of the cost.

  • If anyone else has had a similar experience email me at burnett1269@gmail.com.  Since no one has followed up on this,, Im still mad enough to consider suing and also filing a complaint with Corporate Compliance and the Civil Rights Office and any federal office I can and the Medical Board and Hospital Association.  And Im going to call my insurance company and report fraud claims.

Apparently the CEO of Baptist is not going to rectify this.

    Thanks for listening.

  • My 15 y.o. son suffered a neck injury during football practice.  He was seen immediately. He was treated with care and concern.  The staff was exceptional with us as parents, very compassionate, gave us their time to explain what they were ordering and why.  The doctor was Dr Pahls and he was excellent with us as well. The hospital visit was covered under insurance and I had my usual deductable, i think it was $300.  The test they used were a CT scan, an Xray, and conducted a physical exam using range of motion for his neck.  Diagnosis was confirmed that this was a serious injury with the CT scan.  We were shown the scan and the report from the Radiologist by Dr. Pahls.  We were referred to a Neurologist but were not required to stay over night.  I believe this experience and the care received was as good as it could be when your concerned about your child.
