    At arrival customer service was awesome! Service was very fast and they even let me know about another problem with my vehicle and talked me through the process of how to fix it myself. My car was sputtering after I installed a new Throttle Body, and after TPI got through with it the engine now idols smoothly.

    In December, the engine lost all power while being driven. All oil had leaked out of car resulting in blown engine. We called Davis immediately, and they sent out a tow truck within 30 minutes and towed the car to their shop. To their credit, they admitted that when the oil filter was ordered in December, two digits in the part number were transposed resulting in an incorrect part being installed. Since they are certified, they turned the case over to their insurance company. We were provided with a rental car for a week, the car was totalled, and we were given what we felt was a fair price. Mr. Davis was more than accommodating and professional, but the experience was upsetting as this occurred during the holidays and could have been avoided had more care been given to ordering the correct part. We think Davis Automotive specializes in diesel engines and not foreign make cars.
    Also, we gave them a D for professionalism because when the car was on their lot waiting for the appraiser, we asked that they lock the car. They said it would be done right away. We went back in the evening to remove some things from the car, and it was unlocked. Unacceptable.

    Bosche has been our car repair destination for the last 10 years. They are very honest. If something doesn't need to be replaced they will tell you. They do quality work and stand behind their work. They will try to locate parts that are quality but not overpriced. . We have had them look over our car before a long trip. They are great at preventing a problem. But, they will tell you if it something that needs to be taken care of immediately or it can wait. The younger women at the counter is very helpful, friendly and conscientious. It is a friendly family business.

    This was my second time to have service done on my car with Bosche's. The first time they were able to tow my car to their shop and find out why it wasn't starting. When they found out it was a computer problem that had to be repaired by the dealership, they towed it to the dealership for me. Even though it took time to find the problem, all they charged was for towing. I took the car back later for a scheduled tuneup and some minor repairs. I had a list of things for them to do to the car and they called me back saying some of the stuff was unnecessary and saved me about $700. They had the car a little longer than anticipated but this was due to waiting for a part ordered from Nissan. They specialize in domestic cars and trucks so I wasn't surprised it took a while for the part. My experience with them has been better than any other auto shop I've ever worked with and they have always been polite and forthcoming. Will plan on using their services for years to come.

    The service went well. Brian ALWAYS does excellent work, and he fixes the problem the first time.  Brian only charges for real time labor, not book time, and doesn't mark up the price of parts.  He is incredibly honest, and will not do a repair unless it truly must be done.  Some shops will just do things because they want your money. Brian does high quality and honest work because he wants your business.  I have referred friends to University Auto Center, and they have always been treated right.  You can't ask for a better repair shop.

    They estimated the cost at $588 including everything.  I told them to proceed.  A day later I missed their call and on the voicemail they said "you need to come down here and look at this."  I went down there, and they had performed some of the work, having changed out 5 of the 6 spark plugs.  But on the 6th plug the spark plug broke even with the engine block.  He said that it wasn't his fault, but he showed me the pry bar he was using for leverage to remove the old plug, being about 2 foot long.  I tried not to get upset, but rather went to the auto parts store and bought some "PB Blaster" screw loosener spray and a $20 kit of "easy out" screw removers.  I told him that a mechanic friend of mine recommeded turning the engine over a few times to see if the compression in the cylinder would push the ceramic parts of the plug out of the hole.  He said he would try to get the spark plug out, but didn't think it would work.  I didn't hear anything for two days.  When I called him, he said he tried my trick, but it didn't work, so he drilled out the center of the spark plug and used the 'easy out.'  He had warned me that if he had to do that, the ceramic pieces would fall down into the cylinder, basically ruining the cylinder.  I guess he got impatient and proceeded with that anyway without my permission.  When I talked to him he said that it was now running worse than when I brought it to him, and it was probably a fire hazard as it was leaking gasoline around the area he drilled into.  He wanted to take the head off and clean out the cylinder.  I told him that I wouldn't trust him to do any more work.

    Granted, the van has 150,000 miles on it.  But, it was running and functional when I brought it to him, now I have to have it towed away to another mechanic that will tell me if it is a total loss or not.  I wasn't expecting perfection, and I tried to make it easy for him to do the right thing but he wouldn't do it.  If he hadn't charged me the labor I might not have been as sorely disappointed in him as a service provider.  Basically, he charged me $240 labor to break my engine, and installed about $200 parts onto an engine that will need to be replaced anyway.

    I took my car in because it was periodically not starting and left me stranded more that a few times.  After relaying this to the mechanic, he mentioned that he couldn't know for sure unless it wouldn't start for him, but he thought it might be the the starter switch.  So, a week later I pick my car up, with a new starter switch, and it works fine...for three weeks.  After work one day, my girlfriend turns the key and the motor is unresponsive.  Larry agreed to look at the car again for no charge, which is nice, but is honestly expected as what I had paid to have repaired obviously wasn't.  I leave the car and my phone number on a Tuesday with the promise that I'll get a call with an update.  On Monday, today, I call to find out that it's ready to pick up and has been for sometime apparently.  After talking with the mechanic (not Larry), I discover that naught has been done to my car.  He couldn't get it to "do it" and tells me "you don't change a light bulb until it goes out."  True, but when the light sometime comes on and sometimes doesn't, one hires an electrician and, if they don't fix it the first time, one calls them back.  He told me he got it to start 96 times in a row and another 25 times that very morning, implying, it seemed to me, that I didn't know what I was talking about.  He said he worked on it for an hour and, since he is paid on commission, he didn't make any money, again implying I was wasting his time.  I really have no idea if $150 is a fair price for replacing a starter switch, but it was their price and I paid it.  I assume that covers follow-up work resulting from a failure to achieve expectations.  Needless to say, I won't be returning.
