THE IMPETUS for my decision to not return:

My daughter had made an appointment for my mother for April 7 -- there was confusion over the appointment between her and me as it conflicted with my teacher work schedule.  I called to postpone and was encouraged to NOT cancel as Dr. Hof has a very full schedule.  Fortunately for me, the school agreed to cover my classes until 10:30 as I PROMISED that previous appointment history had shown they had NEVER taken over 1.5 hours to complete.

To summarize, the appointment ran long, and I was frantically trying to find transportation for my mother for the mere three miles to our house so that I could get back to the high school.  I was able to secure RELIABLE transportation for her by my daughter's boyfriend, who was getting ready for work and would be able to be to Boozman Hof within :20, which would equal no more than :15 overlap time for my mother to stay in the waiting room.

At that point, I was "politely" informed by Dr. Hof himself that the Clinic preferred for her to NOT be left in their LARGE, temperature controlled waiting room for the MAXIMUM :15 for my daughter's boyfriend to arrive.  Their rationale was that apparently somewhat-dependent individuals had been left there for an inordinate amount of time.....?  My mother's disability is NOT to the degree that she would WANDER, unless she was looking for a bathroom.  They have seen her there enough to generally have an idea of her cognitive ability. I was initially so infuriated that I dare not even speak as I knew it would not be pleasant.

Instead, the ophthalmologist rushed through the balance of the appointment.  As we left the office, I was frantically calling the school to let them know I would be about :10  late getting to the classroom.  My mother had to WAIT IN MY TRUCK in the parking lot of the school for what turned out to be only eight to ten minutes maximum.  (Note to judgmental persons:  If it had been inordinately hot OR cold weather, I would have never left her in the truck; I suppose I would've had to take her into the high school office to wait, which would have caused me to be :15 minutes late instead of :10.  I was doing my best to not renege on my work obligation as BHS had been so kind to grant me the appointment time to start with.)

Furthermore, while writing this critique, it also comes to mind the time three years ago wherein this same medical provider "loosely" mentioned that they would need a copy of my POA and that they would not ALLOW Mom to sign her own documents. They had NOTHING on paper indicating that she was unable to do so, and three years ago, she was obviously in better health than she is now.  At that time, she was still signing many of  her checks.  I took off work to take her in the for a procedure and they REFUSED to perform the procedure until they had the POA in hand, even if SHE signed for it to be done.

I will not be taking any of my family's eye care needs there again.

And PS.  I am GLAD for the reviews to NOT be anonymous!!!

I was a new patient to the doctor but he got me in quickly. Instead of dilating my eyes, a camera was used to take pictures of the inside of my eye. The doctor then came in and performed his eye exam and fitted me for my contacts. He also explained to me a great special he has going on where I got a years worth of contacts for only about $140 mailed to my house. The doctor then went over my pictures of my eyes and explained to me all of the normal areas and any areas of concern, or in my case, areas to watch for in the future. The pictures are stored and redone annually, if the customer wants to, and allows the doctor to review the annual pictures and look for any changes that are taking place. The doctor walked me out to pay and was very friendly. The staff was also very helpful and helped me to schedule an appointment for my daughter the following week.

Arrived at her office. Only waited a minute or so before she was ready for me. She checked my eyes for any medical issues. She conducted a vision exam and changed my eyeglass prescription. She was very friendly and very fast, but my prescription was great and helped me see better when driving. Billing was a non-issue and straight-forward.

I saw the optometrist for an eye exam to get a new prescription for my contact lenses.  I currently wear mono-vision and asked about the possibility of trying bifocal contact lenses.  He told me that I would not like them.  He gave me a prescription for the same brand of contact lenses that I had been wearing and the new prescription is very different.  I was not offered a trial pair of lenses and after the exam the assistant was trying to order a year's supply of lenses for me.  I asked for a trial pair so that I could be certain that the prescription will work for me.  That is standard--you can't return boxes of contact lenses that have been opened.  They told me that the lenses would take up to 2 weeks to come in.  It has now been well over a month, and I still have not been able to try out the new prescription.  I call every week to check on the status and am told that the lenses come from their warehouse and should be here in a couple more days.  This is crazy!  Last year when I visited a different provider it took only 2 days to receive trial lenses.  I simply refuse to order an entire box of lenses for fear that this new prescription will not work for me.  Getting the correct prescription for mono-vision lens wearers is very important.  I will not use Wal-Mart optical again.

At first, I had the wrong prescription filled, but they corrected it right away. They're in partnership with 1-800-CONTACTS and I got my money back from both companies. Also, their prices are reasonable.

He is experienced.  He has provided me what I would expect from an eye doctor.  It's a small office.  It's just him and one support person.  I like that.  I never have to wait.

I just moved to the area and was referred by my husband's co-worker to Dr. Netzel. I called and was able to get an appointment in less than a week. The office was nice and the staff was really friendly. They explained everything they did before they did it, including what insurance covers and what it doesn't and they let me decide if I wanted the stuff that wasn't covered. Dr. Netzel uses Optomap instead of waiting for the eyes to dilate. On top of not having to wait for dilation to set in, it allowed me to see a picture of my eye on a computer screen. Dr. Netzel explained everything he was seeing and explained what it would look like if there was a concern. I didn't have to wait to get into the exam room and he came in as I was sitting down so really, no waiting. I was in and out in less than an hour.
