    Slim's Service Company
Mr. Bailey was incredible. I called him in a panic because I had a defective part to my year old refrigerator replaced by a service person sent by the manufacturer/company from whom I bought the refrigerator. The refrigerator was working properly. it was just making a noise, and I had received a notice by the manufacturer that I had a limited time to replace the part. When the manufacturer's service person replaced the part, he did so improperly causing an error code and the freezer to shut off. After 10 calls to 10 different 800 #'s and speaking with the service department that is not located in Alabama, the manufacturer told me that a service person could not be sent out for a month and suggested I unplug the refrigerator and put the food in a cooler for a month.
I decided I needed to pay someone else to correct the problem. I called Mr. Bailey who was very sympathetic and told me he would do his best to send someone out that day; however, they were booked and it might be the next day. I replied that I was grateful and that as a new customer, I knew I wasn't that important. He replied, "You are very important to me." His technician, Tommy, called later that day and came to do the repair. Tommy was extremely nice and professional, and he knew what he was doing. Tommy thought he had the problem fixed; however, the refrigerator experienced a different problem during the night. I left Mr. Bailey a voice mail late at night, and Tommy came back out the next day at no charge and fixed the problem. Then, Tommy himself called to apologize for the inconvenience. From my one experience, this is a great company with a focus on customer service...which is so rare. And, I feel their price is reasonable. They will be the first call I make when I need appliance repair. I very much appreciate Slim's Service Company.

Within an hour of leaving a message I received a callback. I was promised they could come by same-day. Ten minutes later the men called ahead to make sure I would be here, and arrived less than an hour after that. They were in uniform, courteous, and professional. They got right to work and quickly found the failed part. They explained they had no replacement on the van, so they left to get one from the shop. Less than an hour later, one of the men returned with the part and installed it. In addition to replacing the part, he cleaned up the inside of the dryer cabinet, adjusted the exhaust hose to remove a kink, and properly positioned the dryer. Quality work, professional service, and excellent responsiveness and communications.

The technician could not find a specific cause for the refrigerator noise. He offered several suggestions and said that we would need a new refrigerator soon. My husband thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed the underside, back and coils. The fridge is still working over a year and a half later.
I then asked the tech how much it would cost to uninstall my dishwasher and reinstall one that I already own. He quoted a fair price but said that my second dishwasher was no good because it hadn't been installed and working in over 4 years.
The technician was polite, professional and easy to communicate with.
My complaint is that he seemed to be very biased towards discarding older appliances and purchasing new ones.
I would not call Slim's again because I prefer repair technicians who are comfortable and familiar with repairing and maintaining older appliances. I want someone who thinks of preserving first and replacing last.

They're very good people. They came out in a very timely manner after I called, it was the next day I think. He knew exactly what was wrong. The parts came in very quickly. He was teaching another guy. He was very polite to the trainee.  He was a really nice guy.

Called on a Thursday, Tommy came on Tuesday, right on the scheduled time. He took my entire dryer apart and found out some packing that was installed in the factory had come loose and attached itself to the wall of the drum. Every time it went around it was hitting the dryer wall, hence making the bumping noise. Tommy cleaned all the glue off the outside of the drum from the packing device, checked all the rollers which were fine, gave them a spritz of oil, put everything back together. They dryer works like a charm.

While he was here, I asked him why I was getting water in the bottom of my fridge. Turned out to be a clogged line, which he fixed in a couple minutes.

This company is professional, courteous, caring, knowledgeable. I would definitely call them again. They are great!

I found Slim's on Angie's List and knew right away that I had called
the right people. Why? Because he was booked solid. The good news, he
kept my name and number and when he was in my neighborhood, he gave me a
call and fixed the aforementioned ice-maker.

We called Slim's because our front-load washer was making a horrendous rattling sound during the spin cycle. I had removed the rear panel to see if I could see what was wrong but nothing appeared to be loose. I called on a Thursday but because of the Memorial Day holiday, the earliest they could come out was Tuesday. I would have preferred a quicker response, but that's not their fault. At about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jim (I think) came out to take a look. In less than 3 minutes, he identified the problema loose bolt on the counterbalancing weights that caused it to shake loose during the spin cycleand in less than 15 minutes he had it fixed and everything back in place. It actually took him as much time to write up the invoice as it did to fix the problem!
In all honesty, I could kick myself for not figuring it out myselfit was a simple problem that I could have fixed with tools I already hadso the $85 service charge feels a bit steep. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again if I run into another problem I can't fix, but I'll try harder to fix things myself first.

    Acker Appliance Inc
When I called Acker, they offered $85 to come out and investigate, $50 for the $25 part, and $110 labor to install it. When I eventually got it repaired BY SOMEONE ELSE, it was a 15 minute job and I got charged $90 total. Needless to say I threw in a $20 tip.

My family returned home from a trip late on a Saturday night and discovered that our A/C was not working.  I called A Better Service Mid-morning on Sunday.  The technicians arrived within an hour and quickly figured out the problem.  They replaced the motor on the outside cooling unit and had my house cooling in about half an hour.  They were also prepared and equipped to deal with the surprise wasp nest that was behind my cooling unit.  Extremely knowledgeable and professional technicians.  They had every tool and replacement part needed to solve the problem.

    Appliance Connection
My son came home the week before Thanksgiving to visit. The heating element in my dryer burned out on Tuesday. On Wednesday I contacted Appliance Connection. They confirmed that they had the appropriate part in stock and scheduled me for an appointment on Thursday. At my request and to my relief the technician, Michael Roberts, was able to come that afternoon instead. He replaced the heating element and checked the airflow from the dryer and from the outside vent. Due to the way the dryer vent was routed to the outside, I had little to no airflow. Because he did not have the the appropriate equipment to clean out the outside vent, which was approximately 20 feet from the dryer, he gave me the name and number of a company in Birmingham that specializes in cleaning vents. He also cautioned me that the heating element was under a 90-day warranty and could burn out again without restoring proper airflow. While he was there I made an appointment with the Birmingham company to come on Saturday, but I also asked if the vent could be rerouted. He provided me with the name and number of a local carpenter. I contacted the carpenter and set up an appointment that same day. He came and determined that he could do the job and gave me a cost estimate. He returned the next day and rerouted the outside vent within two feet of my dryer. I am pleased with the service I received from both companies. Appliance Connection is a local, family owned business that I will use in the future since they also sell appliances. I highly recommend them to anyone that prefers that touch of personal service and demonstrates true pride in their work and products. The technician was polite, friendly, and knew the business well. What his company could not do, he was able to recommend with confidence other resources, providing not only names but contact information. The Appliance Connection is located at 1584 Lurleen B. Wallace Blvd. in Northport, AL. Their phone number is 205-758-5900. Their web site is
