    Slim's Service Company
We called Slim's because our front-load washer was making a horrendous rattling sound during the spin cycle. I had removed the rear panel to see if I could see what was wrong but nothing appeared to be loose. I called on a Thursday but because of the Memorial Day holiday, the earliest they could come out was Tuesday. I would have preferred a quicker response, but that's not their fault. At about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jim (I think) came out to take a look. In less than 3 minutes, he identified the problema loose bolt on the counterbalancing weights that caused it to shake loose during the spin cycleand in less than 15 minutes he had it fixed and everything back in place. It actually took him as much time to write up the invoice as it did to fix the problem!
In all honesty, I could kick myself for not figuring it out myselfit was a simple problem that I could have fixed with tools I already hadso the $85 service charge feels a bit steep. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again if I run into another problem I can't fix, but I'll try harder to fix things myself first.

    Major Service Co
THIS COMPANY IS INCOMPETENT! Major Service Company was assigned to repair/replace my microwave by my home warranty provider on 11/6/2012. After calling 3 times in 2 days and only reaching voicemail (no call backs were received), I finally reached the secretary who took all of my warranty info and said that a repairman would be out between 3 and 7 pm. No one showed up or called to say they would not be coming. I called back the next morning, the secretary took the exact same warranty info from me and told me again that the repairman would be out between 3 and 7 pm. You guessed it, another no show. I called back on Monday, actually reached the repairman and he did come out that morning. He was very pleasant and said that the microwave could not be repaired but would have to be replaced. He then wrote down all of my warranty info (this is the 3rd time!) and said that he needed to get information from the warranty company but he would be back that afternoon. He was not back that afternoon. I called the next morning, reached the secretary who asked for the same information as if I had not spoken with her several times before. She said she would speak with the repairman and call me back. She didn't. I called her and she AGAIN asked for my information (now the 5th time I've relayed the issue and the info!) She said he would be out between, you guessed it, 3 and 7 pm. At this point I called my warranty company and filed a complaint. I also called Major Service and said that I expected them out today (11/19/2012). The secretary asked for the information and problem with which appliance for the 6th time. When I told her the situation yet once again, she said she was waiting on information from the warranty company. I then called the warranty company relayed the problems with Major Service and asked them to call them with me on the line and give them whatever info they required. Turns out, they weren't waiting on anything. I just had to buy a microwave and they would install it. Did they show up to do that? Nope. So we installed it ourselves. If you need a quick response or just a response at all, DON'T CALL Major Service Company!

    Appliance Connection
My son came home the week before Thanksgiving to visit. The heating element in my dryer burned out on Tuesday. On Wednesday I contacted Appliance Connection. They confirmed that they had the appropriate part in stock and scheduled me for an appointment on Thursday. At my request and to my relief the technician, Michael Roberts, was able to come that afternoon instead. He replaced the heating element and checked the airflow from the dryer and from the outside vent. Due to the way the dryer vent was routed to the outside, I had little to no airflow. Because he did not have the the appropriate equipment to clean out the outside vent, which was approximately 20 feet from the dryer, he gave me the name and number of a company in Birmingham that specializes in cleaning vents. He also cautioned me that the heating element was under a 90-day warranty and could burn out again without restoring proper airflow. While he was there I made an appointment with the Birmingham company to come on Saturday, but I also asked if the vent could be rerouted. He provided me with the name and number of a local carpenter. I contacted the carpenter and set up an appointment that same day. He came and determined that he could do the job and gave me a cost estimate. He returned the next day and rerouted the outside vent within two feet of my dryer. I am pleased with the service I received from both companies. Appliance Connection is a local, family owned business that I will use in the future since they also sell appliances. I highly recommend them to anyone that prefers that touch of personal service and demonstrates true pride in their work and products. The technician was polite, friendly, and knew the business well. What his company could not do, he was able to recommend with confidence other resources, providing not only names but contact information. The Appliance Connection is located at 1584 Lurleen B. Wallace Blvd. in Northport, AL. Their phone number is 205-758-5900. Their web site is www.appliance-connection.com.
