    Dr. David Roden, Jr.
Since I'd undergone two prior dental surgeries since moving back to Birmingham 3 years ago -- bad experiences both times -- I was very nervous about this procedure.  Little did I know that Dr. Roden is both an M.D. and an oral surgeon.  He does implants too!  If I ever need another implant I'm going to him.  The twilight anesthesia performed by Dr. Roden was much easier on my aging body than that of prior experiences.  I feel much better on the whole than I did after previous surgeries, one of which was comparable.  If you need a wisdom tooth removed, go to Dr. Roden.  I experienced a dry socket after a recent removal of a wisdom tooth and the doctor  performing the procedure did nothing.  I had to return to my regular dentist for the packing.  Dr. Roden advertises they he will pack the area to alleviate suffering.  Don't let Dr. Roden's youth confuse you: he really knows his stuff.  The office staff is the friendliest I've ever met.  The women preparing me for surgery really put me at ease so that I was laughing by the time Dr. Roden entered to do the procedure.  He called the evening of the surgery too, and I don't need to return to his office for removal of the stitches since they'll dissolve on their own. I am so relieved after finding Dr. Roden that I want to tell the world about it.  No more Little Shop of Horrors.  Just Happy Smiles.

The staff is very efficient and friendly. They are always punctual with the appointments. They handle all the insurance paperwork accurately as well. The hygienists and dentists are very knowledgable and friendly. The views from the chairs is beautiful -- really takes your mind off being at the dentist!

It all went beautifully. He necessarily started with the top teeth, changing my bite by veneering those 8 teeth. They are whiter, of course, but not so white they look like dentures. He advised the second whitest color, so they look natural. I call them "movie star natural." In April 2009 he veneered the front 4 on the bottom. While it would have been more ideal cosmetically to veneer six on the bottom, he didn't push me to spend all that at that time since only four were necessary to align with the previous work regarding the bite problem. Those remaining teeth aren't so noticible anyway. I will return later this year for 2 more veneers either on the top or on the bottom. I have a very small mouth and have never been to a dentist who didn't tell me how hard it is to work on. He did an outstanding job in spite of this small mouth! Now total strangers tell me how lucky I was to be born with such pretty teeth! He gives a GREAT Novocaine shot: I can hardly even feel a pinch. Have never had a problem with any of his temporary crowns coming off. His office staff is very helpful and professional and the office itself is lovely. Highly recommended for any dental work.

The office staff is very professional; they are prompt so when you go there for an appointment you don't have to wait. He is very thorough about going over everything. I have had some oral surgery and he went through everything explaining the billing and what I would have to pay out of pocket. I will use him again in the future.

My crown fell off and I called to see when I could get it fixed.  They were able to see me the same day.  Took me back right away and reattached my crown in about 20 minutes, and it didn't hurt!  Great service!

I called on Thursday and was offered a visit that day but opted for Friday morning at 7:30pm. The office was modern with an excellent view from the chair. I was able to relax and watch TV during the procedure. The staff was extremely attentive and efficient.

    Hoover Family Dentistry
Hoover Family Dentistry was recommended to my wife and I by someone I work with who raved about them, so being new to the area, we were happy to get the recommendation.  We both made appointments and had normal check-ups & cleanings done there.  First of all, the staff is fantastic.  They're friendly & engaging & make you feel at home and comfortable.  You can tell they enjoy being there and that sets the stage for a great experience.  My hygienist was terrific & took great care to avoid any gum pokes or other unpleasantness while doing my cleaning.  She asked yes or no questions when I was unable to speak (due to her hands in my mouth), so we could still carry on a conversation despite the cleaning she was doing!  The dentist was very nice, efficient, & explained well what she found...which in my case was nothing, fortunately.  My wife loved them too, so we would definitely recommend Hoover Family Dentistry to anyone looking for a great dental experience.

She recently did two dental implants for me. About four months ago she extracted two failed root canal teeth, #18 and #20. I required an alveolar ridge augmentation because of bone loss due to abscesses that had formed around the failed root canals. This involved cadaver bone grafts and was moderately painful for a few days post-op. So far the actual implants have been less painful. I am not completely finished with this odyssey. In two weeks I will return for suture removal. In about four months when the implants have integrated into my jawbone, I will return for exposure of the implants and placement of the posts for attachment of my prosthetic teeth. Then I will return to my primary dentist for an impression and eventual prosthetic teeth attachment.

The surgeries and subsequent recovery after each one were painless. Dr. Vest is very skilled and I would recommend him to anyone needing the services he provides.
