  • We were very happy with their services. It is not hard to get an appointment and you don't have to wait long once you are there. It has been a pleasant experience as far as seeing a doctor could be. We would use them again if we needed to in the future.

  • I have epilepsy and was diagnosed at a very young age. I am patient of Dr. Larry Epperson and have been for over 25 years. When I was diagnosed at around the age of 7 or so we lived in Virginia. The doctors we used there never could provide us with an answer as to why things were the way they were or even helped to really explain things. When we moved to Alabama we found Dr. Epperson and went to see him. From the very beginning he was very educational and gave us answers we never had been given before. He helped us in many ways. Each time he has seen me he remembers everything and even asks how my mother is now. He is extremely professional, knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. He truly cares about his patients. I would highly recommend him.

  • He is very good.  I have had carpal tunnel.  I was having at that time some memory issues.  He checked me out with that and things were fine but I see him for my carpal tunnel.  He is good.  He gave me a vitamin that we can actually take their help and it did help.  I think it was B6 or something like that and it did help, less invasive.  He is very attentive and listens to us.  I did like the fact that he didn’t jump right away to some kind of surgery or something.  He does a slow approach and wouldn’t give permission to use vitamins and stuff.  He did seem thorough and he did the tests real quick and I was surprised that he mentioned it, because I do like to use vitamins and stuff, and I was shocked to see him do that and that was pretty interesting and it actually did help.  He is very busy and this is one thing a lot of people would like to go to him for and I have never known him before.  My doctor referred me to him.  I would use his service again.

  • He correctly identified my disorder but would not tell me what it was.  I found out a couple of days later from my Internist.  He asked me if I believed in God and had good family support because I was going to need it.   Left me hanging??  I found out 2 days later that he diagnosed me with ALS (Lou Gehrigs) disease.  That turned out to be correct when I had it confirmed less than a month later by the best in the nation at Emory in Atlanta.  ALS is 100% fatal and getting on medication soon can help extend life but not cure.

    My biggest issues are that:
    1) Would not tell me his preliminary diagnosis and referred me to a doctor in Birmingham.  He gave me a form letter that indicated it would be about 3 or 4 weeks. This was 10/24. I could not get an appointment with that guy until January 2012.  And it turns out the Doctor in Birmingham's methodologies (muscle biopsy) are somewhat dated and not used by most ALS centers.  Neither Mayo Clinic nor Emory ALS center use muscle biopsy as a normal way to diagnose ALS.
    2) Standard ALS treatment is to put even a "suspected ALS patient" on Rilutek.  Dr Epperson's office appeared to have NO knowledge of this drug NOR did Dr Epperson mention it to me.  Alabama's ALS Association nurses urged me to have him prescribe it ASAP
    3) Mayo Clinic and Emory ALS centers were "astounded" that I was not put on Rilutek immediately.
    4) Took me 3 weeks of calling Dr Epperson's office to finally get the Rilutek medication prescribed.  Staff routinely blew me off as nutcase or simply did not return the call. It took me insisting that they take 30 seconds and Google Rilutek.
    5) Dr Epperson's manner conveys the attitude that he does not care in the least and I felt like his approach is..NEXT!
    6) 80% of Dr Epperson's business card is an advertisement for some pyramid scheme he appears to have a vested interest in.  You really have to search through all the ads to find his phone number and address. (I have kept a copy)
    7) The only efficient part of the operation was that his office made me pay for the portion of tests Insurance won't cover  BEFORE the Doctor would perform the test.  I sat in the waiting room for an hour for the sole purpose of them collecting every penny up front. ALL other Physicians I have used bill the insurance company and then bill me for any portion insurance does not cover.  I always pay immediately.  This operation is interested in running a "patient mill".
    8) Dr Epperson prescribed 800 mg of Metaxalone for muscle pain which only made me feel worse.  The Physician at Emory told me to stop taking the Metaxalone immediately and that it was not appropriate for ALS patients.

I sensed that I was dealing with a questionable practice and immediately sought a second opinion at Emory in Atlanta.  What a difference.  There you have a Pysician and staff who is knowdegeable, genuinely care, and call me to see how I am doing and schedule appropriate tests and procedures to help.

I am astounded that Dr Epperson is allowed to remain in business.  What is the role of the AMA?  Is there not a governing body who oversees Physicians in this country.  Maybe he could get away with this in some 3rd world country but I expect more in the US.
I also hear bad things about his partner from other ALS patients I have found through networking and the ALS Alabama society.  They are very helpful.

Don't go to a Neurologist in Montgomery, AL.  Go to Atlanta!

  • Do not waste your time and money unless you are in his social economic circle. You would probably get better treatment then. I would not recommend him for my worst enemy. Absolutely not of any service for me. I will never go back.
