    They had excellent service and excellent price.  They did not take advantage of the fact that I was out of town. They could have very easily said the transmission was bad and replaced the whole thing, but it was a simple hose problem.  If I had taken it to someone irreputable, they could have taken advantage of me.  I worked with Jimmy and Tom.  They were excellent.

    Was recommended to go to AAMCO for a power steering leak by a nice employee of the Express Oil on 15th. Dropped it off later that day and immediately had concerns from the welcome I received: The manager greeted me and took down my information on a composition notebook. I asked when he would get to it, and he said he was booked and that most people just left the car there; he'd get to it when he got to it. When I left,I glanced at the garage -- only two of the four garages were occupied. Called that afternoon, then the next morning and recieved no new information. When I called the third time, two business days later, he checked with one of his employees and gave me the quote: the rack, pinion and power steering tube all needed to be replaced - to the tune of $965. I didn't get any more details about the problem, just that diagnosis, and this was not a man that inspired confidence at the beginning. I declined. Picked up my car, and the owner asked what I was going to do with it. (It is a 15-year old Dodge Caravan w/ 275k miles.) I told him I wasn't sure, and he offered to take it off my hands if I didn't get it fixed. I declined again. I got another estimate at Warren Tire later in the day. They told me within minutes that I just needed a new tube, and they fixed me up in an hour for $100. If you are having car troubles, avoid this AAMCO.

    This did not go well, 8 months after it was put in the transmission went out. They sold me what i was told was a low mileage transmission, and they gave me a 6 month warranty. I had them do some other work on the car a couple of weeks ago, and after I drove away from the shop it started making a weird noise. I went right back and was told that the issue was a transmission. I was told I am outside of the warranty period, but the manager Jamie told me he thought that it would not be a problem to take care of me. I finally heard back from him a week later and was told that they would not cover it.

    MR TRANSMISSION
    January: My tranny dies while visiting in Houston and I take it to Mr.Transmission across town because they have a nation-wide warranty and they say they can get the job done fast. They ask for advance payment over the phone to order the transmission from LKQ, a brand my home mechanic recommends. My car seems fine when I get it back. March: Back home in Alabama, I am driving in Montgomery when I lose first and third gears. I take it to Mr.Trans in Montgomery with my warranty. Two weeks later I get my car (no reciept or list of services performed) and on the way home (over 100 miles) a burning smell is coming from my car. I go to my mechanic and he says it's leaking tranny fluid, a lot. I call Houston and am told to take it to Tuscaloosa--I do. Turns out they don't work on Volkswagons. I learn from Houston that the man who owned the shop in January has sold it to a man named Tarik who is very nice and says he will have my car towed to the next shop for repairs in Pelham (over an hour away) and will negotiate the price of a rental with me for work. I get my car two weeks later (no reciept again) and it seems ok. June: After a CV joint replacement my mechanic says my tranny is bad because my car does over 3000 rpm in 5th gear at 65 mph. I call Tarik and take it to Pelham. After a week, I pick it up unrepaired to go to an out-of-state funeral. When I return the Pelham people inform me that they can't find the problem but my transmission is not an LKQ but appears to have come from a junk-yard. I inform them that I would like to have the transmission replaced because it is not what I paid for (re: advanced payment to order and ship transmission). When I call about a week later (note that these people never call me though they have two phone #s for me) Tarik is refusing to pay for a replacement because he's fed-up. When I call Tarik, I assure him that I am more fed-up than he. He says to call Jackie at Corporate Customer Relations who says she will take care of it. I hear nothing for two weeks. July: When I call Jackie she says the original work done on my car was "out-sourced" to "Armando's" in Houston, that "Armando" put in a junk-yard transmission, and that neither he, nor Tarik will return her phone calls. She said that she could only act as my liason to Tarik and that Corporate has nothing to do with warranties, nor enforcing that they be honored. I said that I have contacted my attorney and that I would be filing a complaint with Angie's list and the Better Business Bureau unless I got some resolution within a day or two. That was last week. She has not returned any of my phone calls since then, and my car is still in Pelham. It has spent over two and half months of the last six in a Mr. Transmission shop. I am livid.
