Campbell Paving Asphalt & Concrete LLC
We hired them to replace an existing concrete driveway that was in terrible shape due to roots, and to build a custom patio in our back yard. They gave us a reasonable estimate, were very professional and completed the work when promised. They take pride in their work and the finished product was beautiful. Very happy and would hire them again.

New driveway looks very good. It was poured four days ago, so I will drive on it, for the first time, today. Mr. Campbell and his employees were very efficient and made sure everything was done correctly and cleaned up.

    America's Best Concrete Construction
Contractor seemed disorganized and didn't communicate well with subs. But they did the work when they said they would at the price quoted. The driveway turned out well; however, the retaining wall was not poured and finished correctly and they had to come back and patch where voids and holes were left. I would recommend them for simple concrete jobs, but not anything complicated.

    AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists
The salesman was punctual and polite. Aside from one comment (discussed below), he was not personally objectionable in any way. He went over his proposals during his sales pitch, while showing us videos of the company's products and describing the urgency and necessity of each product. Then he said if we sign a contract and make a down payment "right now" he can give us 10% off, but the discount will no longer be available once he leaves. He said the contract was fully cancellable, so I signed it to retain the discount, but I did not provide a down payment as he said we could work it out later. I also informed the salesman that I intended to get additional quotes. He said that AFS does price match.-- My one issue with the salesman personally (mentioned above): At one point near the end, he mentioned that AFS had a sales meeting that evening (it was the last day of the month) and he had been going back and forth in competition with another salesman for highest sales totals during the month. He said that our contract would put him easily over the top, and he was excited about going to the meeting now. Why would you ever say this to a customer who you just told needs $26,000 in repairs? -- We asked several other companies to assess our problems and provide solutions and quotes. After we received their assessments, I was convinced that we really do need work performed. However, AFS was dramatically more expensive than any other company we considered, and AFS noted "urgent items" that MULTIPLE other specialists said were of no concern or needed little attention/correction. (Two separate companies literally laughed at the suggestion that we need two sump pumps, as suggested by AFS.) -- We ended up with two quotes for solutions (one for waterproofing and one for foundation work) with two separate companies that will work together to perform all necessary work. The combined contract price the required work is about $14,500 LESS than the AFS quote. Even if we decide to fully encapsulate the basement (which AFS said was necessary, but others said was optional), the all-in price was $11,000 less than the AFS quote.-- I informed the AFS salesman that I had decided to go a different direction and I let him know how much I was quoted for the solutions I chose. He asked if he could try to price match. I told him that I believe the waterproofing solution I found was superior to the one provided by AFS, but he was welcome to try to work something out for the foundation work. He then asked (again) to see the quotes I received for both solutions and said that he could save me money. At that point I cut off the discussion entirely.-- If he believes that AFS can save me money, he's stating without any uncertainty that the initial quote had an enormous profit margin built-in. It tells me that AFS was preying on people who don't think to get additional quotes. Why else would they ask for a signature before leaving and dangle a 10% discount "only if you sign now?" NONE of the other companies tried those tactics. Each provided a solution and a quote, and told me to think about it and call with any questions. -- I will not call AFS for another quote for this or any other home I own. I will advise anyone I know to seek other options, preferably before speaking to AFS (if they must).

Campbell Paving Asphalt & Concrete LLC
I contacted Mr. Campbell to inquire about a driveway expansion job.  He responded quickly and provided an estimate and responded in a timely manner to questions and options about concrete upgrades.  I later contacted him to confirm I wanted to move forward and get the work scheduled.  This is when things went off track.  I told him to just work it in sometime as I was in no big hurry.  After a couple months of no contact I reached out to him and was told his Mother was in the hospital.  I responded I understand family comes first and to just let me know when he could get the work scheduled.  Fast forward three more months and I contact him again to ask if he still wants to do the work or not.  I had been very patient and simply wanted to know if I should move on to another contractor.  He ensured me he did in fact want and intend to do the job.  It's been almost three months and I've not heard a word from him.  If you want the job done I would look elsewhere.

    Cahaba Plumbing

I couldn't be more pleased with the work that Cahaba Plumbing did for me. Jan (owner) stopped a couple days prior to the date when the work was to be performed in order to see where I (and wife) wanted the laundry tub to go and what it entailed.  After closely looking at the location (in the mud room, opposite of the half bath in the man cave), he strongly recommended an alternative location in the garage, close to the main sewer line and easier access to the water lines (not too mention the fact that none of the dry-wall would have to be cut into).  On the day of the install, Jan sent one of his men over to do the work, and as I expected he (I believe his name was Greg) was very professional and went right to work. Even though he didn't have to, Greg secured my cheap laundry tub (bought one that had all the connections) to the garage wall and to the concrete floor. He did have to go out over lunch to get a couple of connectors/parts that he didn't have with him, but I wasn't in a hurry and in the end the laundry tub install was properly and efficiently.  I will definitely hire Cahaba Plumbing again without thinking twice.

They must be spread thin. No middle management. Unable to present an estimate in writing. Had an excuses for every failed meeting after estimating the site. I believe looking for the easy hit and run jobs. To this day they have not gotten back with anything in writing not given me a start month. I believe it is too much for them. I joint Angie's list to get the best. This is a far cry from even middle best. Sorry but truth is the truth. I have family coming in for month of July and I explained trying to get all work completed before that time. I believe they talk a good job, I believe they would like to do what they talk. I believe they can not do what they talk.

The job was done well.  The finished product matches the existing drive.  Of all the drives that were widened, mine looks the best.  They also moved my mailbox and set it in concrete.
I had requested estimates from other contractors.  Campbell's responded quickly and had one of the best prices.   They did not try to hit me for any additional charges.

    ANCLA Construction
The service was excellent. We had purchased a big deal but after it was all said and done, it was 1700 dollars worth of work. They are probably the best contractor I have every used. His prices are normally very competitive, he found a brick that was out of place underneath my window and he fixed it for free. He is very good.

    Mularski Concrete Inc
Greg Mularsky returned my call within a few minutes and came round to see the job the next day. He gave a reasonable price and committed to doing the job just a few days from then. On the scheduled day bad weather was forecast, so I was expecting the crew not to show. A phone call would have been nice. They arrived the next day and did all that they had promised. I am very happy with the work, the responsiveness, and the price. Their punctuality was good, except for the lack of notice on the bad weather day.
