    A Cut Above Carpentry
Paul Bryan and his team arrived exactly when they said they would, performed the work in a very professional manner, cleaned up what little mess they made, and left. We're thrilled with the work they did. Would we hire them again? We already have, for another job that starts next month. Fantastic company!

    Michael's Complete Home Maintenance
Started off ok but within two weeks they began to be late and not respond to phone calls or texts. Work was not done on time as promised. Would only come for an hour or two or only late in the day, then would say they'd be back and never come back. Also texted they were coming and never show. Would start on the next project to ask for more money but did not finish ANY project completely. Monica, Michael's wife, called me at work one day around 2:00 to tell me they would not be working that day because Michael had disappeared, she had not seen him since 8:00 the previous night. He showed up with her the next day, she said he got stopped and had outstanding tickets. They left our two additional bathrooms without water for over a month and left the faucet stuck in the vanity but not installed. Had asked Monica to paint the hall bath the same color as the family room (a taupe) and came in to her painting it a yellow, when I questioned her she said it was the same color but Lowes did a sorry job of matching colors. Michael told us he could fix a crack in our popcorn ceiling, Monica did the work and when it dried it had started to crack again, then Michael fixed it and the next day there was a grapefruit sized bubble a few inches from the crack. We asked them to just scrape off the popcorn and paint the ceiling. A few days later my husband came home sick and I came home to check on him. Monica working in the hall bath and a young man I had never seen was scraping the family room ceiling, there were no covers on any furniture or the floor. Monica said she had to leave to pick up something but would be right back. I had to return to work. That night we discovered my husbands tablet was missing, there were dusty white fingerprints on his suede backpack. Texted Micheal about it and he said he would get it back. He did, apologized and said the he had known the workers Aunt who asked hin to employ the young man before she passed away. I kept asking for his name and they would not tell me. Then I received a call from the guy (Michael gave the guy my cell # without my permission-told me he thought it was the right thing to do) who stated he was a kleptomaniac and couldn't help it and was under a Dr's care. He asked what else was stolen from my house, said just tell him and he would look for it and return it. I asked if he did' know what he had stolen from me and he said no, he had lots of stuff he had taken at his house and didn't remember where he had taken what. So it is Nov. and I started this in July. I will be taking action to report them and reclaim the money I am now spending to redo their poor work.

    A Cut Above Carpentry
I hope I actually included everything Paul did, but I might have left out something. Paul and his workers did an OUTSTANDING job with the work on a 1950s house that has enough settling that they had to compensate for it in the bathroom. We are looking forward to working with A Cut Above Carpentry again on several other large home improvement projects.

Klein and Son Construction and Excavating
Our house had fallen into disrepair inside and outside due to neglect by family members living there.  We selected Klein and Son to look at the situation and tell us what needed to be done since we live in another part of the country.  We knew the deck was in bad shape, the back door needed to be replaced and some exterior siding was rotten from rain splash beside it but not sure what else needed to be done.

They came back with the estimate to fix those things and paint the exterior so we told them to proceed.  After they completed the work, my brother was saying that the new steps on the deck sag/bend when you step on them but Fred Klein said he would come put another stringer/riser on it so that would fix that and all would be good.

We made a trip to visit the house in January and are still in shock from what we found.

The stringer was never installed on the steps even after I reminded Fred. Also the deck was not built to code.  Fred said we told him to build it like it was which to us meant shape and size but to him apparently means to code 29 years ago which is what they did but he did offer to bring it up to code if we paid him.  I did also discover while installing the stringer and balisters that they did not replace most of the framing under the deck.

There are numerous rotten spots in the siding around the house that were just painted over, not counting the spot caused by the dog.  My neighbor was pointing them out from his yard. There are some pieces of siding that have pulled away from the house that only need a nail or two to pull them back down but they are still sticking out.  I didn't ask them to fix it but it is so small most contractors would just do it.

The threshold for the back door is missing the wood under it so when you step outside the metal bends down.  I told Fred about it and he said he would look at it.  I am thinking that is all he did.  I fixed it while we were there.

I also noticed runs on the side of the house.  I have since learned that they stained over the paint which makes no sense to me as it is a waste of their time and my money but Fred says we insisted on them doing it.  We did provide them a gallon of stain to do the chimney that was rebuilt when the roof was replaced but the wood was too wet so seal.  Somehow that became stain the whole house which does not work so that was an obvious misunderstanding.

All my efforts to work with Fred are fruitless.  He takes no ownership of his work or any responsibility.  Everything is our fault but I didn't know we could relieve them of their responsibility to work to code.  Any contractor I have ever worked with would have never stained the painted siding but worked with us to clear up the issue and most would have taken care of the little things to prep the house before painting.

Fred has said some of the things he did were to save us money but I suspect the reality is it saved him expense so he made more money.  After looking at everything, I don't feel like us getting what we needed or paid for was the priority but instead calling the job finished and getting paid was.

Perhaps things might have worked out differently if we had been there to oversee everything but that is the whole point of hiring the right contractor.

I offer anyone to come take a look to see for themselves if you want to see what I am talking about.

    David Watson Painting
He did a great job (even came when the ice storm hit) and quoted us the best price by far. He ended up needing 2 more gallons than he thought and still charged us the original amount. We were so pleased we did pay him extra.

    Pete Boykin
Pete and his crew were fantastic. Professional, punctual, reasonable rates and once a job was started, it was completed without interruption. The quality of his service was top notch and if there was something that was not to our satisfaction, he re-worked it (this was a rare occasion.) I've been so pleased with his work that I plan on using him for a patio-to-sunroom conversion in 6 months. I would highly recommend Pete for any home remodeling project.

    Tommy's Contracting
I left a general description of several services that I wanted performed to prepare my home for rental and asked several questions on the voicemail.  Perhaps perhaps the provider did not want smaller jobs or was on vacation, but a call back would have been the professional thing to do.

    David Watson Painting
I called this painter after TWO other painters bailed and I needed painting done before renting my house. He came out THAT DAY for a quote and then came back at 600 the next morning to start work. He did a great job in record time with none of the typical mess to clean up. He left the house as he found it. I would highly recommend as long as you don't mind the price.

    JDWhite Custom Painting
Excellent price and quality. Mr. White was always approachable. However, there were some misunderstandings pertaining our innitial agreement. Initially, we agreed that I would pay half before they started to paint, and the other half would be paid after the job was completed and I received pictures of the job performed. However, once I paid the first half, Mr. White demanded that I paid the other half before he finished the job (he did not wanted to get screwed over). So I did, never received the pictures, and the property key was returned to the wrong property management company. Two days later, the property manager took pictures and sent them to me.

UPDATE: A month after this company painted my rental property, I was able to visit the house. At that time, I noticed they only did patch up work in the walking closets, and it looked horrible. I called Mr. White 2 times, and both times he promised to go back and re-paint the area. Up to this date, the walking closets have not been re-painted.

    Different Strokes Painting
    Overall:  Horrible.
Mr. Scott Casper broke my ceiling fan in my living room that I did not authorize him to "refinish" in the first place.
My bedroom ceiling fan now rocks and makes noise after he "refinished" it as well and left spray paint all over everything in the room as well.
Last but not least, Mr. Casper took a chunk of my bathroom door out, DID NOT MENTION IT TO ME, and PAINTED OVER IT, hoping I wouldn't notice it.

I have called him several times, he says he is coming over, gives a time, and NEVER shows up.  I call and his mother tells me he will be right back, I call back 3 hours later, I get the same line.

I believe Mr. Casper took advantage of me because I am a NICE single woman.  He called me constantly before he got his $$$, but now that he has his $$ he won't stand behind his lowsy job.

I would never recommend this man to anyone.
