  • Owner of North Alabama RV, Leon, has always been courteous and helpful.  When I picked up the coach he apologized for not having the canvas or getting the dings patched.  He told me not to pay;  he knew I would be coming back to get the work finished and we could settle up then.  My biggest complaint on his responsiveness is the failure to return phone calls when I leave a message with the office.  I don't know if he doesn't get the message or forgets to call.
This time, we discovered that the new TV worked fine, but the TV in the bedroom did NOT work.  We tried to watch a DVD in the front of the coach and the DVD player would not work.  It appeared that the VHS player would not come on.  So for 3.5 weeks, the coach had sat and when finally worked on, only a couple of things were done and the TV was not hooked up and checked to see if ALL the components were in working order.
I called Leon and complained.  (By this time, I had the old TV checked out and for $90, fixed and working fine.)  Leon said to bring the coach back and he would have the technician work with me "while I was there" and Leon would be there too to make sure it was done right and to my satisfaction.
I took the coach in and sat with the technician for almost 3 hours while he tried one approach and then another.  In the course of the conversation, he said he had "only been told to change the TV".  I left specific instructions with Leon and talked to the technician myself, so there is a serious mus-communication here.  The tech tried a variety of wiring schemes and could not get the TV in front and back to do both TV and then switch to DVD.  (The VHS player WAS burned and did not work so we removed it.  This should have made it simpler, but he couldn't figure it out.)  Finally, I told him to put it all back together and I have TV in front and back and DVD in front only.  He was wasting my time and Leon's money.
I spoke to Leon and expressed disappointment.  I asked about getting the dings fixed and when would the canvas be in (it has been over 3 weeks now.)  Leon promised to call when the canvas was in and we could bring in the RV for the body man.
This is the closest RV repair facility to us, so I have limited choices.  I will continue to use them as Leon (the owner) had been helpful and has been fair.  But I am not sure the quality and professionalism of some of the workers is high.  I am still waiting on the canvas for the awning and for Leon to have the dings I received while the coach was as his establishment repaired.

  • North AL RV called and said they had a bedroom awning in stock that someone had ordered but then changed their mind.  I could have it for less if I was willing to accept it.  Problem was, it was a different color than the other awnings.  I was not offensive, so we took it.
When we went to pick up the RV, we noticed that the bedroom awning had been set higher than expected so when pulled down, it did not shield the bedroom as well.  Also, the hook to fasten it was directly up against the crank out window so I could not easily open the bedroom window for air.  North AL RV offered to move it, but this would have left holes in the wall of the RV which would have meant intrusion of rain or bugs, not to mention not looking good.  We declined.
A mower had also shot a stone into the RV and cracked the fiberglass.  The owner pointed it out and said if we would bring it back at a later date, he would arrange to have it patched for free.
We took the RV camping and when we put the main awning out, we had a problem with the pull down strap.  They had put in a new awning but not spent the $7 for a new pull down strap.  As a result, it broke and I had a problem getting the awning back up.  I called and was told to bring it in and it would be corrected.  I drove to the shop, and within 15 minutes, the service man fixed it and apologized for not taking care of it originally.
We went on another trip and after putting out the bedroom awning, we discovered it would not roll up tight.  This would lead to catching in the wind and possibly ripping off.  I used duct tape to hold it in place for the rest of the trip.  Upon return to AL, I called and complained.  Again, the owner said bring it in and they would fix.  It turns out two screws should have/could have been put in the upper rail to keep the awning from sliding left and right.  While not actually "required", apparently it is generally accepted that this helps with the awnings and should be done.
I spoke later to the owner about both the placement of the awning and the problem with the installation.  He admitted he had to let a couple of the employees go because of lack of attention to detail.  While this doesn't make me happier about the work, it means he recognized the problem and took steps so others would not have issues in the future.

North AL RV does body and interior work, not engine or "automotive" work on RVs.  They were fair, prompt and professional.  I have no problem returning to them for work in the future, if it is needed.
