AElite ConcreteAbsolutely terrific, from start to finish! He arrived when he said he would, had the old, but damaged concrete driveway removed and began pouring in sections, with the addition of a large parking pad. He, and his crew were very efficient, and the finished job looks terrific. It was a pleasure to do business with Sal and his team!- William B.

ACrawford ConstructionA neighbor was getting a driveway addition done and I asked the contractor to give us an estimate. The estimate was very good and the work could start in the next 2 days. They dug out the driveway and set the forms in 1/2 a day. Poured concrete at noon and finished in the late afternoon. Very good work, prompt, and quite reasonable.- James C.

ACrawford ConstructionThey arrived a day early and took 1 day to dig and form the extension. Poured concrete the following morning. The additional spece gave us room to park a truck and still get our 2 cars out of the garage without moving the 3rd vehicle.- James C.

AConcrete PlusI decided to get a new double car carport and needed to have a concert slab made for the carport and at the same time wanted to have my driveway widen from a one car driveway to a two car driveway. I called two concret individuals recommended to me by friends and one would never return my call but Gary from "Concret Plus" made an appointment with me the following day and one week later he and his two helpers did my concret work. It took one day to use his tracker to dig up the area and lay the forms. and the following day the concret truck showed up and they did an excellent job making my new driveway and slab for my carport. I was very impress with the curb work at the street and proper drainage on the new slab and driveway. I would recommend Gary and his crew for any concret job.- david c.

FOliver Concrete FinishingHe quoted a price and I gave him $1000 upfront. several weeks later he showed up several times with a drunk crew. Then the concrete truck came and demanded money ($1500) . I told oliver that it was deducted. He was paid the remainder and then started hassling me for $1700. I told him that concrete was included (not stated in his handwritten contract that it was not) and I had received several other bids about the same price but took him because he was listed on Angies. Never heard of a job to create concrete patio and not include concrete. He made a couple of thousand to improperly smooth out concrete. We had discussed the patio and the fact that I needed drainage. He said no problem. There were no drains and now my problem is worse and ruining my garage. The water goes into the side door too now! The concrete was unleveled and cracking. I called the city and he was not licensed. He also had a website on his card was directed to a company in Michigan that never heard of him. It s going to cost me a fortune to correct this problem!- virginia s.

FLamar GarnerLamar Garner and his son Tim Garner came out and gave us an estimate to do the work and we agreed upon a price. They stated that they would be able to do the work with no problem and we gave them a check for $1100.00 for materials to start. After several days of them stating that they could not find the materials needed, they finally started the work on 6/30/11. My husband was having to oversee what they were doing everyday to make sure they were doing what they were suppossed to be doing and they seemed to get upset by this. They got the porch up and ceiling fans installed and tried several times to figure out how to get the gutters to where they would flow properly. As this was taking place, they were also puring a concrete slab at the end of our pool around 2 standing lights. They were pouring concrete by hauling bags around the house and all during a rain storm. The finish of the slab was TERRIBLE! We made them come back and redo the slab which they did but it still does not look like any of the other concrete work we have had done at our home. Next, after several heated conversations with them, during a rain storm the porch started pouring water in through not only the gutter system but also at the back of the porch where it meets the house.(And we had just bought very expensive furniture to put under the porch and had to move it all to keep it from getting wet and ruining) They waited until 7/7/11 to get a building permit from the city-8 days after they started the actual work. They have been very unprofessional about wanting to come back out and fix the gutter problem so we called the building inspector to come back out and he stated that he told them that the gutter system they put up was not going to work. When my husband called Mr Tim Garner today, he stated that since he, my husband, had called the building inspector back out, he was gonna call somebody out on his own, what ever that meant. It has been nothing but trouble with this company since they started the work and we will NEVER EVER recommend them again or to anyone else. All we want is our leaks fixed and the gutters to properly work and wash our hands of them forever. Oh and we called another contractor over who was working down the street doing the exact same job for our neighbor and he said it was very "shoddy" work and he would have never built a porch the way they did. We also have videos of the leaks and also all documentation and pictures and voicemails for proof if needed. Also, they are very messy workers and NEVER cleaned up their mess when they left and also got concrete all over our light poles at the end of the pool. They are the worst contractor we have ever had doing so called "work" for us at our home and will give them a bad name wherever and whenever we get the chance!- Jodi E.

FKlein and Son Construction and ExcavatingThe initial cement pour was under forecasted. They had a cement truck come in, but their projections were wrong. Klein construction had to supplement the cement by using bags of cement. I am not sure if the mixes were of the same quality. Water was pooling up on the floor prior to the roof going over the area. The contractor stated that they would smooth this out. This did not happen as evident by the tiles and the water flow. Room developed a leak closet to the house first. Several documents were ruined by this initial water leak. Contractor came back in worked this water leak. Instead of replacing the ceiling material, they painted over the water damaged spot versus replacing it. Then, the water came in under the floor of the other two walls. Contractor drilled holes, removed a brick and did other fix it tasks. In the end, the water is still leaking in the room. Klein came back and removed the base boards and cut a hole in the sheetrock to see where the water is coming in. This was the last thing that they work on. As of today.....over 8 months later, the room is still unfinished. We paid the fees prior to the first hard rain. It was too late to recoup the funds after the fact. Now, the wood at the bottom of the structure is starting to rot due to the constant presence of moisture.- Rodney B.

AParrot was so easy with which to work. They saved us a ton of money from a larger, chain type company. They also were able to get out and complete the work 3 weeks faster than they had originally anticipated. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

DThis was an increasingly frustrating experience. After ignoring my instincts that perhaps his company was either too busy or too disorganized to handle the project well we ended up going ahead. My husband worked in the trades with him about 10 years ago and thought he seemed like a stand up guy. If I had just asked for some word of mouth reviews from people in Athens we would have heard enough to deter us, but we didn't do it because of time constraints.
He and his project manager were constantly vague or delayed providing information. Many important processes were skipped, including pulling a permit to repair a wall which required structural, electrical, and plumbing oversight. It was agreed that the back wall needed to be repaired before starting the porch, but then his crew went ahead and started the porch before even putting windows back in. This was when it was starting to get cold, mind you.
When they added not the back porch they pulled back about 8" of the roof line all the way across the back porch about 16'. After the porch roof was built it was left exposed with no tar paper for at least a month during which time we noticed water pouring in at the porch ends and through the wall onto our brand new door. When I finally reported this it took them about 20 days to get the roof covered with tar paper. I thought the issue was fixed at this point.
While there were many small details of the project that went wrong, either through their inability to effectively communicate with their crew or our needs being ignored, the biggest issue we encountered is the lack of professionalism and bullying that transgressed because of the water leakage issue. The week before they "finished up" we started to demo inside for a bathroom renovation we planned on doing. The inside of the wall, right under post for the new porch, was sopping. The brand new lumber and insulation we had them put in was soaking wet and a great deal of mold was growing. The owner said he would come and view the problem at the start of the next week. After we did not hear from him or his project manager, who had come to look and said they would remove the affected drywall and insulation, by Tuesday of that week, and after repeated instances where they didn't do what they said. We removed it ourselves and started drying it out. Unfortunately, the span of the the porch wall where moisture was getting included our kitchen and only working bathroom. Even though we have only asked that he deduct the labor for taking out the drywall and replacing the insulation ourselves, he has refused to take any responsibility for the leaking, saying that because we had a hole in our house that there is no way he caused further damage. He has even blatantly lied about why he did not come look at the problem. Prior to his work we did not have a closed wall system that was taking on water and while parts of our rafter system were and are currently exposed, our roof was not leaking into our home. Even after we took out the wall and were trying to dry it out, moisture was still coming into our home under the west side of the porch. The project manager said they would flash and repair that section, but it was not done.
In addition, when opening up that wall we noticed places where the wall framing was not attached to the sill and even scarier, places where there were no supports added to hold up the subfloor and floor which had previously been attached to the sill or damaged. Places where several feet of flooring where just hanging off the nearest floor joist.
Needless to say it has gotten ugly. His information is so disorganized that his final bid did not include the most recent change order and was about $1200 higher than it should have been. His communications about money have been bullying and he either does not respond reasonably to any critique or he ignores information. We have been working to reach a compromise to find a fair amount to pay him, deducting the work we have had to do to fix dangerous, damaging, or incomplete work, but he refuses to negotiate the amount he is demanding and is threatening and lien on our home and court. So, we have had a pretty bad experience.
