    Carver Tile INC
We've used Carter Tile for flooring and tile to build two homes, and have recommended them to anyone looking for their products and/or services. Paul, Lacy and their team are absolutely the best. They are quality service professionals with patience and great recommendations! Wouldn't consider using any one else!

I recommend James Hosmer & his crew at Halo Construction for installing ceramic tile flooring without any reservations. Here is a summary of my experience with Halo Construction: After asking around and finding no one who had been pleased with their ceramic tile installation and interviewing a couple of tile contractors who I did not choose to hire, I consulted Angie's List to find a ceramic tile installation crew to install heavy ceramic tile in an alternating -- grey & white -- diamond pattern in the bottom level of my split level home. After reading the Angie's List reviews, I called James Hosmer of Halo Construction to come and look at my tile project and he came over promptly. My husband and I decided to hire him -- even though we had to wait a month for him to begin work -- because of James's knowledgable and artistic approach to assessing the project. He immediately focused on what we wanted with the tile and layout and -- at this initial stage -- suggested that the decorative trim pieces that I had ordered be placed about 6 inches from the wall instead of directly next to the wall -- as he said the trim would show up better with a little space between the wall and the rest of the tile. And I thought about this for a second and a light went off in my head and I thought -- He's right..... He's right... Why didn't I think of that? And he offered a very reasonable price for labor and I asked him for an estimate of costs for his materials and realized later he was exactly on the money there. I signed the Contract the next day and although I had a bit of trepidation about paying $$ half up front (I only knew him from Angie's List although he did offer some recommendations from people my husband and I knew or knew of) I waited the month until his agreed upon start date and he started right on time and he and his crew were very professional in all aspects of carrying out their job. I communicated with him on the second day about one change my husband & I decided we wanted in the spacing of the tiles and although it cost him some time to redo a section -- he did not complain -- just kept his unerring focus on doing a good job and he ended up doing a great job that my husband and I plan to enjoy for years and years and years. I can't convey how very, very pleased I am with the result of the ceramic tile installation by Halo Construction -- because then I would have to bore you with my three years of selecting tile and samples cracking, advice from architects in the family, and my hesitation to finally commit to doing this first (large, for us) renovation in the home my husband & I bought 17 years ago. It can be a scary process for someone who has heard stories of bad work , etc., so having an outcome with perfect, artistically laid tile has exceeded my expectations. The work is beautiful and James is free to show you photos or to make an appointment to actually see the floor. Because of the pride James & crew take in their work and their dedication to customer satisfaction, I recommend Halo without reservation for any tile project -- big, medium, or small -- this crew knows what they are doing and they get it done right. I had the pleasure of meeting James's adorably cute and plucky three year old and think that when anyone asks her what her dad does, she should reply that he makes other people's houses beautiful! Hire this team and you will not be sorry....

Wheat's Carpet One Floor & Home
Several years ago I bought enough wood flooring to do most of my house from Wheats. They also did the install. I thought the job went well but later the floor started squeaking. It wasn't a big deal so I forgot about it. A year or so later I decided to finish out the whole house with the same wood. I called Wheats and they said they thought they had enough to do the job. When I told them that I was using a different contractor for the install they suddenly weren't as friendly. My new contractor said my squeaking was caused by inferior sub-flooring installed by Wheats. I also found out from the install guy that my flooring was discontinued and that Wheats had it on sale in the store but I paid full price. I guess because I didn't use them for the install. This whole problem may have been caused by a salesperson. The original salesman for stage 1 was a great guy. He went out of his way to make sure I was completely satisfied but alas he was no longer at the Tuscaloosa store. Unless there is an accident with my present flooring I should not have to deal with Wheats again. I think my problem was a member of their staff and not with the store. If I ever needed their services again I would not hesitate to use them but I would be careful with the person I dealt with.

Wheat's Carpet One Floor & Home
The time estimated from beginning to  finish was supposed to be five days but wound up being almost two months. A different brand and color stain was substituted without disclosing it, and unfortunately did not match the existing wood floor color in other areas of the house.  The floor had to be resanded and restained twice.  The satin floor varnish was mixed on the front porch and on the bathroom counter with no protection on either.  It was spilled on both and dried.  Another business had to be called to repolish the bathroom counter top.  When the job was finally finished, the floor looked beautiful but still did not match the existing floors.  The mistakes which occurred could have been avoided if there were consistent quality control procedures throughout the process.

Halo was punctual in looking at our house and getting us a price on the work to be done. The problems we encountered included the following: lack of quality work, continued changes to the contract and price of work to be performed, unclean working conditions, communication issues, and damaging new items installed. First of all, my husband was going to be doing all of the painting. After the walls in our nursery were refinished, he was going to paint. James told him that the walls were ready to paint one day, so my husband came home from working on a job out of town to do so. When he arrived, his examination of the walls showed that there were still many imperfections that needed to be fixed before be could paint. James fixed the walls where we asked him to. He also put in hardwood floors in this room. We had no issues with the floor, except that there was a large amount of wood glue left for us to clean up. We have been unsuccessful in removing it. We were quoted a price on several things to be done in our bathroom. The contracts for both bathrooms had to be amended because James forgot items to be done. There were also items that were added due to my husband and father-in-law not finishing the demolition correctly, so we do take responsibility for those issues. My husband had to show James where the shower tile was not trimmed into a straight line. James fixed this issues as well. But, after finishing the first bathroom, we noticed chips on our new tub that James never informed us were there. My husband had to buy a kit to fix this problem himself. After both bathrooms were finished, we had a leak in our house. My husband and father-in-law searched for the cause and could not find the issue. They called James, and he came over quickly to help. But, the entire time he insisted the leak was not due to any of his work. I will admit my father-in-law became quite argumentative with James, but we had a new baby in the house that he was concerned for. We did not need to have mold form in the room next to our newborn's nursery. James insisted that if the problem was due to his work, that he would remedy the issue. When the leak was found, it was in fact due to bad welding of new pipe fittings in the bathroom. We had to knock out some drywall to find the leak ourselves. My husband called James to tell him that the leak was due to his work, and we have not heard from James since. He did not help fix the problem as he had promised. This is the main factor that caused me to give Halo a D rating. My husband and father-in-law fixed the leak, and put in drywall in 3 rooms that had to be removed. Some other issues that we did not communicate with Halo were the cleanliness problems. Our house is older, and we are replacing most everything. But, I still expected the workers to treat my home with respect. They did not do this. Urine was found in my bathroom floor one day. My carpet is now stained with the mudding materials used on the ceiling. Our side door and door knob now have spots of wood glue all over them. And our dresser, which is beside the bathroom door of our bedroom that was remodeled, now has scratches and nicks all over one side. And I was 9 months pregnant while this work was being done, but still had to vacuum up after the crew when I came home from work. They never offered or asked about cleaning their mess off of the floor.

First of all we had James out in July 2012 to install 2 ceiling fans and fence in a portion of our deck as a puppy pen for our new puppy. He built one gate and repaired an existing gate on the deck. He did a great job on this project. He was given an "A" for that job. In October, 2012 we called him again; this time for a much bigger project. We had all the carpet downstairs taken out and replaced with ceramic tile. The tile job took a lot longer than James figured and he acted like it was our fault. He also informed us on the last day he was here that it was our responsibility to put the sealer on the tile. He ended up putting the sealer on the tile but he did a halfa__ed job. There are boot tracks and spots all over the floor that failed to get any sealer at all. Carpet removed from the stairs and replaced with hardwood. I can't even begin to explain the mess he made with the handrail. A tin ceiling installed in the upstairs bathroom and the walls painted. He was supposed to install a new light fixture and mirror in this bathroom but left before this was done. We had to pay someone else to do this. He removed a sliding glass door and replaced it with windows. He did a good job on the windows but the rest of his work was mediocre at best. The biggest complaint we had was with James himself. He was very unprofessional, yelling at members of his crew and throwing things, generally pitching a fit. He was never on the job until 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning and sometimes stayed until 9:00 or 10:00 at night. One night it was after 11:00 when they left. It was impossible to have a conversation with him because he was constantly interrupting. He was not very respectful of our property and did not clean up after himself. He was really good about pointing out why something couldn't be done, but not very good about finding ways to accomplish the task at hand. There were several other things and complaints we had but I am tired of "beating this dead horse". We will not be calling on Halo Construction again. The only reason I gave this review at all at this late date is because I received an email from Angie's List asking me for it.

We hired Frankie to replace our wooden floors due to water damage. When she looked at the water damage she did not perform a moisture test, just subcontracted the job out. Soon after parts of the newly laid floor started buckling and coming up. We called Frankie several times, she finally came out to look at the problem. Over 2 months went by before she returned our calls and I asked her to get someone to repair it. After 7 more phone calls she sent someone out but told him that we were responsible for the cost. She admitted to us that he sub-contractor told her there was moisture, yet she told him to lay the floor anyway. She gave us the runaround saying she wasn't liable for it. She said she would send someone out to look at it and then we'd speak about it again, and we haven't heard from her since. That was nearly 1 year ago. I filed a complaint with the BBB, she refused to reply. She claims to be a good person but does not stand behind her work. BEWARE!!!
