Explore these green options for your new flooring

If you're looking for eco-friendly flooring, research and understand the composition of the flooring, as well as the adhesives, glues and other products used during the installation.

Wood floor alternatives

Consumers have many choices beyond traditional hardwood floors, including wood laminate and renewable sources such as bamboo, cork and even leather. Some alternatives look virtually the same as hardwoods.

From the wall street journal online:

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"

My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.
I agree with your choice - this is about the only product that can realistically, for a large room, be taken out and cleaned up after a flood and reused, thouhg carpet can be if you strip it into smaller pieces to carry wet, AND you have somewhere to wash and dry it - that is usually the problem. However, bear in mind it still has to be done within about 2 days or mildew/mold will grow on it, and may or may not be totally removeable. My personal preferences - mostly because their products are consistent, the joints stay snapped together, and they are not overly soft (a problem with cheap vinyls) are Pergo, Tarkett, Armstrong. Whatever you buy, be sure it can come back apart - some plank products are not made with a self-adhering contact glue in the joints that prevent you from taking it apart again, and some brands their snap design, while maybe better at preventing joint separation, cannot feasibly be unsnapped without tearing or breaking it off. Also, be sure whatever brandname and product line you choose it 100% vinyl (other than the urethane surface protective layer) - many vinyl floor products have paper or fiber cores or other water-absorbing components. Remember that, on concrete, since it wicks soil moisture through it, you till need a 6 mil vapor barrier under the flooring and positively sealed all around the edges to avoid the risk of mold growing on the underside of the vinyl.
Agreed.  If you have existing cracking in porcelain you need to know the cause first.  I don't know of any reputable contractor that would dare install tile over existing tile.  Also, any manufacturer warranties for defects would be null due to improper installation.  Did the contractor offer this solution or did you ask for it?  The mear fact that he is agreeing to or offering it tells me you need to leave this guy for someone who knows what they are talking about before he does only half the job which will have to be redone in the near future, costing you more in the long run.

I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par.  The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right.  This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

Flooring reviews in Arab

I had oak laminate flooring installed in two offices. One office 192 sq ft and the other 216 sq ft total estimate was $1773.09 including labor and base cove.
One of our offices had some rain damage that required pre-treating and then finally finding an acceptable quote to replace the flooring. The team even applied a slight base coat of cement to ensure the flooring would have no problems during installation.
I would definitely use and recommend this company again.
- Robert F.

We had three estimates from flooring people on Angie's List. All had excellent reviews. One felt the hall area would be difficult due to flooring in the hall under carpet that was half parquet wood and half cement. One said he couldn't take on the hall because of the situation. One was rather taciturn and the other quite friendly and outgoing. We thought we might have difficulties communicating with the quiet one in case a problem arose.
We showed each estimator the floor that was under the carpet in the family room. It was the same as what had been in the kitchen when we moved in. The man who laid the tile in the kitchen about 20 years ago had said it needed to come off in order to have a good bond with the tile. It looked like linoleum, but was more of a thin film of linoleum with no backing, seriously attached to the cement floor. The tile man had had a terrible time removing it.
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
and the others felt it needed to be removed before installing the wood, and it wouldn't be a problem.
We decided on
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
who was easy to talk to, and he answered all of our questions plus gave us extra information. He praised his team of installers and was sure they could handle the hall. We liked the detailed estimate he provided. We drove up to his showroom of flooring to select the wood and color.
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
met us when he said he would, and he was patient and helpful while we looked at the choices of wood. We took several home to see what they looked like in our room, lighting and furniture. We chose an oak, 5" wide, engineered wood.
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
delivered the wood and put it in the living room the day before the installing crew was to arrive. We had laid down some blankets, but he may have had some himself if we hadn't done so.
The crew of three arrived on the planned day about 9:45 as
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
had said they would. They were all very polite, friendly and neat. They went right to work covering the large opening into the kitchen with plastic and taking up the carpet. The parquet and lower cement area were handled with no problems. Then, they got to the unusual linoleum like floor in the family room. It didn't want to come up and had to be chipped less than an inch at a time. When they left about 6:00 the old flooring was about half removed. The men cleaned up everything before departing.
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
had come by to see how things were going and see the difficulty with the linoleum removal.
The next day the crew again arrived about 9:45 and began work on the removal. Once the flooring was gone, the wood installation went very quickly. They added the white shoe molding and caulked all the joins and painted over the end sections of the molding. They cleaned up completely and wiped up any glue that had squeezed out, then went over it with a mop. They replaced the furniture after putting pads on the feet of the chairs and shelf units.
We had paid for the wood when we signed the contract.
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
came by a day later to take a final look and pick up the second check.
The only drawback with the crew was that only one spoke English and he is still working on it. The others are probably learning, but shy to speak. All were hardworking, polite and careful.
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
is energetic and eager to please the customer. I would give him an A- for responsiveness since he was a bit slow to respond sometimes due to working in so many directions at once. However, it was wonderful to meet a young man so hardworking, pleasant, and detail oriented. We love our floor and would definitely call on
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
if we decided to have more wood flooring installed.

Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
provided samples during the sales period, they were informative, transparent, and great to deal with. They hauled away all the debris from the demolition portion of the job. Delivery of the laminate occurred on time and they allowed it to acclimatize for a day or two before installing it. The installation team was very polite and professional. They installed the flooring over a two day period of time with the third and final day used for shoe moulding and thresholds.
Over the next month, two spots appeared in the flooring due to manufacturer defect. Chapmans came out within two days and fixed both spots. They also went over the 30 year warranty information and guaranteed they would fix any other issues if any arose.
- Randy D.

When the worker arrived, I asked him to start with the kitchen counters. He removed the old caulk and re-caulked as I requested, and the work was neat and looks good. However, it took less than an hour, and I had other work to be done (100 year old houses always do!). Someone else arrived from the company, they talked briefly and they both left. Therefore, I paid $99/hour which I think is very pricey for this task.

The installers did a
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
job and returned promptly to fix a couple of small glitches. The business could have been a bit
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
compulsive about returning phone calls. I would use them again, but it was a bit frstrating to not have calls returned promptly.
- Tim McNair T.

Let me start by saying I used them to do my floors in
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
2014 and was extremely happy with them and why I choose the "More" part of the business to get my counter tops and backsplash done in my kitchen. That was a very pleasant experience. As for the "d" for professionalism it would have been an F, but the technicians were nice and courteous.

This experience however was not the same. It started off good with our measuring by
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
(I believe the owner). He came out to the house on time and measured out what we asked to be done. He mentioned they were not the cheapest, but a one stop shop. I like that as I will pay a little extra for convenience.

So after he leaves, I ask how/where do we pick out the granite? He says go to AG&M (first sign this not a one-stop shop) to pick out your granite and backsplash, they?ll go over your options and sink and faucet too. A couple days later, we go to AG&M to pick out our stuff. We mention we?re using
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s and the sales or whatever proceeds to show us some granite. We ask pricing and she says,
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s will have that for you. We pick out our counters and backsplash and list it on the sheet and head over to
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s to see if we can get an estimate now that we know what we want and they have measured. The available person at the counter could not help as she was new and didn?t know the system. The other counter person (
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
) was on the phone with a customer for a long time meanwhile another store customer who had an appointment at 1:30 was waiting for him. At least 15mins later he gets on the phone and has to help the appointment person, all the while we?re waiting and waiting. Finally, I said please call with an estimate here is our spec sheet of what we want. Several days later we call them asking if they have an estimate for us. Nope not yet, they will call back when they do.

Another couple of days and we have to call them again and still no estimate ready. I?m getting a little frustrated at this time as we?re trying to get this scheduled since my wife is a teacher and has summers off and starts back shortly. We end up calling a third time and they do have something ready,
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
makes a light apology for the delay. The quote is a bit higher than I?d like, as it includes a very expensive sink and faucet estimate that we have not yet selected (and did not know I was supposed to). We go to the store to talk to them about the estimate and ask to see what sink/faucet we want, he says well you will have to go to
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s plumbing supply (yet again, not a one-stop shop). I decided to go with them since I have gone this far already and pay half down on the estimate so I can get something scheduled on their books.

So I take another lunch break to go pick out a sink and faucet at
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s. The prices listed were quite pricey (much more than expected), but she said ?these are not the
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s prices they get a discount, I?ll have to check what they would pay.? So I pick out a sink and faucet that I like (in my supposed price range based on the quote given by
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s). The
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s sales lady tells me she?ll send my request to
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s for pricing and let me know the final price. Low and behold a couple of days later, no call. We?re headed out of town and scheduled the start of the remodel the day after we get back. We get a missed from from Red Rock Fabrication but no message, several more calls from this same number and no voicemails. Fortunately we decided to call the number back and it turns out these are the guys doing the demolition and countertop work! Glad we called. They were very nice and punctual and apparently all had been scheduled. They show up at the expected time and start. Their part only took two days and the old tops were off and the new tops were on but no backsplash for a day. We call and asked for a status, and they said they were waiting on our accent piece to come in. Also keep in mind every time we called, it seem WE were an inconvenience to them. While I know $5700 isn?t a huge job, it is still a customer. If you
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?t want to do it, then tell us you can?t.

So to recap the job; it was not a one-stop shop, very poor communication, an inconvenience to them and made us feel like it was our fault. Take off the ?more? in
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
?s and More and stick to floors.

PS ? the worker?s that did the work did a great job and were all very nice and prompt. It was the office/store support that made this an unpleasant experience. I would not recommend.

had promptly returned call and walked me through the details of the installation process, always asking if I had questions or concerns and if things were clear. I immediately felt comfortable and decided to work with him. His team which included
Arab Flooring Contractors Provider Name Locked
as the foreman and 5 other crew members, arrived promptly each day for the next 4 days. They were respectful of the property, cleaning after they were done, and minimizing clutter at the end of the day. The crew made sure I was in the loop ( I was present throughout the installation process ) of any issues or changes that may need to be made. The final product was very well done and I was extremely satisfied with the work
