Sidney Washington is a TOUGH cookie. He expects exemplary behavior from both the dogs and the owners, and from his staff. His main focus is submission on the part of the dog and convincing the dog that the human is "alpha". He has been referred to as "old school" by other trainers since he does not utilize treats to train and advocates the use of "electronic neckwear". We chose not to utilize the neckwear and use slip-chain collars instead. You will be taught to "crate train" and you will be expected to work with your dog every day to reinforce the techniques he employs. Right now my dogs are 15 months old and weigh a combined 180 pounds - big enough to hurt someone. My male has completed his AKC Canine Good Citizenship certification and will take the Therapy Dog International test as soon as it is offered in my area again. They both follow all the basic commands that make them a joy to have around. I cannot imagine the chaos I would now be living in had we not done formal training. Do not use Sidney if your skin is too thin to take criticism or if you are a "know it all". Do not waste your money if you have a dog that you are just going to tie outside and ignore. Do not take on the commitment if you are not willing to do the homework. If you want an obedient, fun, well-balanced, companion then go see Sidney.

The trainer was cruel to the dog.  He was difficult to work with and made all his clients (it was group sessions) feel that they could not follow his instructions and corrected the dog owner constantly.  He did not remain consistent in his directions and I was constantly frustrated.  My private sessions often were spent with the trainer talking on the phone with potential clients, or talking with someone who was there without an appointment, or with the trainer playing with his or another dog, etc.  Every attempt at working with my dog was met with criticism and correction not matter what.  He would take the controls of the shock collar away from me and shock my dog when he was confused due to the loud excessive barking by the other numerous dogs in cages on all sides of us.  He was cruel to me and to my dog.  He was disrespectful to clients; especially women.  He did not like anyone to question him.  His name is Sydney.  I used the owner of the place to train another dog years ago and liked him a lot.  He name is Joe.  He no longer trains dogs and has Sydney do that now.  I will not use them again.
