First, I wasn't aware of his hours of operation and actually went by when he was closed. He saw me from his shop window and waved me in. Then he accessed my problem and fixed it on the spot. He had to remove and reapply the fingerboard. He noticed the bridge was too high and fixed it also. After all the service was done, he mentioned his normal operating hours. I thought the cost was reasonable. I am going back to him this month to buy a violin for my daughter.

When I brought my cello in John said that because the crack was old and dried out, it would take him longer than normal to fix it. He was very upfront about the fact that it would take longer to fix it correctly which I appreciated. After all the repairs were made, he listed my cello for sale, and said he would contact me when the various components were sold. I had a cello, a bow, and the case all listed for sale with him. The cello and bow sold within a couple of months, and he called me telling me the were sold, and I could either stop by to collect the check, or he could mail it to me. The case took just over a year to sell, however it did sell, and again he called me with the news, and I went over and picked up the check. John is always very nice and courteous, he will tell you his honest opinion on the work that needs to be done, and will get it done. He will always ask before doing an additional work that may be required. He fixes, makes and sells violins, violas, cellos and basses, he also does limited things with guitars and mandolins.

Trying to get refund and will let you know how it goes but the actual piece of equipment was sold as new despite having belt buckle scratches on the back and needing a set-up. Turned my Christmas dream guitar into a bad dream when it stopped functioning after a day or so...the tech today says it has a loose wire but if I had bought directly form the manufacturer instead of Mammoth I bet the wire would not have been loose.

Broke the neck on my Martin! Truss rod now has broken through the back of the neck. Claimed that I let it get too dry (which, regardless, they should have NEVER HAVE TURNED THE TRUSS ROD). Didn't own it. In fact NEVER MENTIONED IT until I confronted them!
