Hospital Care reviews in Fairbanks

  • If I have a choice, I would go any place but there. They have a monopoly. They're the only hospital in town. They don't care. There's no competition so they can do whatever they want. They're there if you want to wait for hours. They misdiagnosed everything. I had allergies and they told me I had a blocked artery. They charged me $16000 to find out I had nothing but allergies. They were easy enough to work with the billing. I'm flying out to Boston to have a physical done. I don't want to have it done here. I can do a full spiral CT scan for $500 in Boston. They want $5000 to do it up here. I can fly to Boston three times for what they're going to charge me up here.

  • Had an appointment with doctor at the sleep center to go over options, then they scheduled me for the same night because they had an opening. All told this was a very good experience. They told me each step of the way what was going to happen and it went just like they said. I was a bit rushed in the morning because I think another patient was having trouble. I had no trouble.
I have not heard back this week on the results, which is a bit worrisome, but not overly so. They said it would take a week or more to get them diagnosed.
If you need a sleep study (I still don't know if I really needed one) this is a good place to go.
FMH is Banner Health - their billing department is not so good. I have two insurances - a primary from my work, and a secondary from my wife's work, and these insurance companies almost always deny payment when it is first submitted. Instead of sending me a note and calling to help me work it out, Banner sends the whole file off to a collections agency and claims they cannot do anything about it. That's my only major complaint about this whole organization.
If you are going to Banner - plan on fighting your insurance battles and fighting them hard! The insurance companies appear to have caught on to the strong arm tactics and I'll bet a lot of people just knuckle under and pay. Grrrrr

  • I had my procedure done there because I know the surgeon and it was an outpatient procedure. I needed a cardiac procedure in the past, but flew 300 miles to the next nearest hospital instead of using MemHosp. In the past, MemHosp had a policy laundering and re-sterilizing used disposable items and charging the next patient as though they were new supplies. The Administration thought this was being and quot;thriftyand quot;. I thought it was dishonest and poor medical care. I was an Asst. Supervisor and left because of it. They've stopped that practice and improved somewhat but I would rather go to another hospital.

  • It is just a really new and clean facility. The people are good there, and I had no trouble with anybody. The medicines are excellent. There are no problems with the facility itself as the staff themselves like it.

  • They were very nice and friendly. They were very kind, and I was scared. They were just wonderful people, and they took excellent care of me. They helped me through the process. I would recommend anybody there.

  • I've had a lot of experiences there. I do handyman work and cut the tip of my finger off with an 1/8 inch width of a saw blade. They cleaned it out, sent me home, charged me thousands of dollars, and it was something I could have done myself. I've had good and bad experiences there. They do a TV commercial there with a guy that says he's happy working there, I have been there, seen him, and he seems like he's miserable. The wait is forever and takes so long to see someone there. I give them lower ratings, but, will go back in the future. I have to go there because they are the only ones around and I would have to drive over 100 miles to go somewhere else.

  • I was in the emergency room, I had flu like symptoms. My experience with them was very good. The emergency room environment was very professional. Being the only hospital in town, they have quite a few folks going in there. They have more emergencies than minor problems, and they did the best they could with the patient load.

  • I find them very efficient and accommodating. They are very good. It's a new center. They seem to care about getting the patients in.
