    Tanana Valley Clinic
Took 1 month old to clinic for rash on bottom that was not a typical diaper rash. and quot;DRand quot; prescribed a strong steroid that had bold, bright yellow colored warnings on it that it should not be used on patients under 18 years old. It also stated that it was NOT to be used in occluded areas such as the anal region esp with diapers. The warnings listed a number of permanent and severe issues related to the use of this cream and repeated that it should not be used in children. and quot;DRand quot; was called and he tried to talk his way around the situation. I called a dermatologist and got a quick appointment. I brought the cream and he was shocked that this was prescribed for any child esp an infant. He suggested we contact Banner Health and report this -which we did. The result was that my wife got several calls from the and quot;DRand quot; asking why we couldn't have just talked this out instead of reporting it. He said that he was the head of the department and that the labels do not take into consideration all the potential uses, that he would have done the same for his own kids, and that we over-reacted. Seriously?! Talk it out? Over-reacted? He prescribed a medicine that would likely have caused permanent damage to our daughter. The dermatologist - a specialist and one who understands steroid ointments way better than a generalist - affirmed that this should NEVER have been done. (The dermatologist gave us a non-steroidal cream specifically for her issue and it cleared up in a couple days). I would NEVER trust this place again. We will never take our children back to TVC urgent care. TVC has some good doctors, but you need to be very careful. For many doctors TVC, esp Urgent Care is a spring board to the private clinics - those that remain for some time are either truly dedicated to serving the community or, more often than not, simply can't make it anywhere else. We had several other poor interactions with the urgent care clinic prior to this. Most times when we followed up with our main provider later they made changes to the diagnosis, medication, etc. The only thing that they are really good for is to get prescriptions, but you better be careful about what they give you. I think we are lucky to have escaped without injury. Note: we still go to TVC - not urgent care - for many things. There are some truly dedicated professionals there - you just have to do your research well and hope.
