    Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic
It was great, I had no problems with them at all, everything was fine. The doctor that I used was very competent, staff is organized, your appointment usually go according to plan. It's a qualifier, they could get you in, some of their more popular doctors, you may have to wait for a specific doctor but if you're willing to do your initial evaluation to somebody else, you'll get in quickly. I never had any problems.

    Robert Gieringer MD
Right shoulder rotate cuff tear repair. Preoperatively he said the repair would be very difficult if possible at all. I appreciated his honesty. I think Dr. Gieringer is skillful talented and highly qualified to do any kind of surgery involving the shoulder. I have no knowledge relating to other types of surgery. Today I have complete use of my arm, no pain or lack of motion.

The MRI showed more damage than he thought at first. After reviewing the radiologist report Dr. Gieringer told me he was not sure he could fix the shoulder. We talked about the risks and chances for success and my husband and I decided to go ahead with the surgery. Dr. Gierenger said he would do the surgery but considering the and quot;chronicity of the tears and no observable fatty infiltration on a chronic retracted supraspinatus, infraspinatus and subscapularis tear, it was possible it could not be repaired. He felt it was possible to give some relief of the pain, but unsure about how much mobility I would have.and quot; The report after surgery showed cephalad subluxation of humerous, hardly any rotator cuff visible. Subacromimal surface showed some areas down to bare bone. Coracoacromial ligament was quite frayed. the Biceps tendon had long since ruptured and was absent. After much cleaning and debrided soft tissue, the arthroscopic repair of subscapularis tendon was not very satisfactory. He split deltoid muscle inline with the raphe and removed 3/8 inch to be reattached later. Also used triple-loaded titanium anchor and applied the platelet-rich plasma membrane graft. He applied platelet-rich plasma membrane graft on the underside of supraspinatus and tied in place. Able to get substantial tissue and tendon to sew the graft to. He felt he was able to get fairly good fixation and good tension on the graft. The dermal onlay graft covered the platelet-rich plasma membrane graft so there was no risk of losing that. Reattached deltoid muscle using puncture hole in the acromion. He injected the glenohumeral joint with the remaining liquid portion of platelet-rich plasma. Dr. Gieringer felt the surgery was satisfactory. After weeks of no movement in an arm sling and immobilizer, I started Passive therapyand quot;. I have one more week of passive work and will start being more active in the therapy. There are to be six weeks of therapy. I have had almost no pain post operative, and it has been hard for me to stay immobile. However, Dr. Gieringer said it was like sewing into wet tissue paper and the danger of pulling the graft apart is a real problem, so I am willing to be patient. My range of motion is excellent (with help) and if it doesn't get any better than this, I will be very pleased. I think I was fortunate to have an excellent surgeon, he said he thought he had just been lucky. At any rate, I expect to have a wonderful result.

    Manion, Dr. Christopher J.
I had suffered with severe pain for 8 months, went thru injections and physical therapy because my primary care physician didn't think there was anything wrong with my shoulder. Was finally refered to Orthopedic Physicians of Anchorage and one look at an MRI and Dr Manion could see the issue. He was very helpfull in explaining exactly what was wrong in my shoulder. He performed the surgery thru a Day Surgery and he personally called me at home later that evening to explain what he had actually found and what exactly he had done to correct it. In all my experience with his office and with Dr Manion was very friendly, reassuring and extremely positive. I am refering everyone I talk to to Dr Manion.

Dr. Gieringer did not have a whole lot to say about my shoulder. He asked me if I had insurance. When I told him no, he told me that I was "going nowhere". When I removed my shirt he commented, "I see you have money for tattoos." He again commented that I was going nowhere. I left the office not knowing anything more about my shoulder.
