They got me in quickly, finished the tune up, and trailer issues in 1 day. I called in a panic to get the line, anchor and chain put together, and they did it within a couple of hours.  I can't say enough nice things about them. I have owned boats for about 10 years now, and Marita has always serviced them for me.  It's never cheap, but the prices are comparable, and I always feel comfortable that they are giving me great service. I would definitely recommend them and always appreciate their hard work.

    Image Plastic Fabricators
I can work in wood, but steel and plastic are out of my tool/skill range.  We're cruising sailors and have a lot of opportunity to use weather-proof plastic on many projects.  I've used Image for more than five years on a variety of projects ranging from the complex to the simple and all have been completed superbly.  Their scrap plastic bin has also supplied me with a limitless amounts of plastic for projects that were simple enough for me to complete unaided.  Great prices and friendly people and I recommend them.

Everything went real well.  I ordered the boat in September at the Alaska State Fair with a 50% deposit.  The boat was schedule to arrive into Anchorage by the First of May.  I was contacted by Alaska Series Inflatable Boats in April the boat had arrived into his warehouse.  I paid the balance when I picked up my new inflatable boat.   I had a great summer using my new Alaska Series Inflatable boat.

They are pretty good. You can rent. You have trailers there. They carry a wide variety of new stuff as well. I will probably be going in there shortly to pick up some new gears for my raft. I need to get recovery gears. They have got brochures and stuff regarding services all around the state: Copper River valley, Keen Eye peninsula, Mat-su valley. They can get you hooked up pretty much anywhere around the state. Everybody there is very helpful. They are pretty mellowed down to earth. Their pricing is pretty good considering everything has to be shifted up here and they are round about what the manufacturer is on. They carry a wide range but they carry top notch gear. They are responsive in their website as well. You can order from their website and ask questions on the website. They are knowledgeable.

It did not go all that well. I dropped off the two props at the end of February and had a call back with a $300 quote. It was six weeks until I got the props back. I checked in regularly and basically got the story that they were coming. The work was done in the Valley and supposedly picked up/dropped off in ANC weekly. Apparently someone went on holiday or had other obligations because the one week turn around did not happen. When I finally was called and picked up the props, one was fine and the other still had a noticeable distortion on two of three blades. I was not satisfied and asked that it be sent back for proper truing. In another week it did come back in the condition I expected. I paid the $300 but was offered no discount for the unreasonable delay and sloppy work. It may have been the off season for this kind of work, but they should have told me there would be a delay. Very poor service. I would need some significant reassurance to ever use these folks again.

We did not have a good experience with them although it was limited. My husband wanted the boat to get repaired and so he called and made sure if they could see it in a certain time frame, they said they could. They could see us if their schedule is okay for us and then we took it down. They did not look or even touch the boat in the time frame that they said they would. They did not give us any future date that they could get the work done. It was a dupe.

I had called the shop about a month before I dropped it off and informed them of all the things that I needed done. I was assured that they could handle everything as their web site claims they have 30 years of experience. It was a small shop which I liked. Unfortunately, they were very poor at communicating. They worked very slow and had multiple jobs going with only one worker. After multiple visits and calls to speed up the job, I gave up on having my boat for the summer. After 5 months of having my boat they called to let me know that they were almost ready to put the new console on and that they needed a check. I went down to look at the work and was very unhappy with the quality of workmanship as the deck was not level and the gel coat was put on with a roller and did not match at all what was there. They rolled the gel coat over my factory anti skid which destroyed it. They were not finished fastening it to the deck luckily because it would have broken the flange off of my new center console. After looking at the work, the owner told me that he had 81 hours in labor and $2,000.00 in materials in the boat thus far and that I owed $11,000.00. And they were not finished. They did not even touch anything else that I had asked for. I paid him $3,000.00 and told him that I would not pay him anymore. He put a mechanics lien on my boat and kept it. I called three shops which are very professional and all agreed that the amount of work done was no more than 20 hours and couldn't be more than $400 worth of materials. I also have found a character witness for the employees and they are not honest. I feel stupid for not getting a bid, but what can I say I though I could trust people. Lesson is Get a Bid in writing no matter what. take pictures before you have work done. I could have bought another boat for what he wanted to repair a hole.

I wanted to give any unsuspecting boat owners in the Anchorage area who may be desperate to get their boat back in the water to not make the same mistake that I did and take my boat to Action Marine off of Old Seward and 74th. Unfortunately those that have needed marine work done in the short summer season know how hard it can be to get work done in a timely manner; it?s the nature of the beast up here. Well after calling around the anchorage area to all the recommended major shops and was told of the realistic wait times to get in their cue I (unfortunately) decided to give AM my business because I was impatient, knew that my mechanical motor issue was relatively minor and AM assured me they could get to it and turn it around in a week depending on parts availability. Well what ensued for the next three weeks ran the gamut of poor shop and mechanic horror stories: exceeding originally quoted estimates (by a factor of two), performing the unapproved work without approval, stringing me along (?oh sure we?ll get to it tomorrow?), failure to properly diagnose or diagnose at all, performing work that does not fix problems/symptoms, and quoting additional repair work that was three times the cost of other shop estimates.   Below is a summary of issues: ·         Took nearly 2 weeks to begin diagnosing when said they would do it in under three days ·         Took nearly three weeks to perform an unnecessary carburetor gasket replacement ·         Originally quoted $400 for carburetor work. Unapproved bill was $800 for replacement gaskets only, not even a complete rebuild when I picked it up. ·         Boat had numerous new scratches in hull, some went through the gel coat (I cleaned and polished the day before dropping it off so was intimately familiar with all existing surface damage. ·         Carb/spark arrester wasn?t even put back together when I told them I was going to pick it up. Then tried giving me back the boat without the spark arrestor cover with engine information. ·         Cut my trailer hitch lock without even an apology or a cheap replacement. ·         Quoted an additional $1900 for an intake manifold gasket replacement, with no certainty this would solve my symptoms.   So the long and short of it I have burned nearly a month of precious boating time and last but not least I have nothing to show for it but a couple new gaskets, 800 bucks lighter and still needing work done.   Thought I?d share some of my pain and prevent others from similar experiences. Don?t be so impatient like me and itching to get back on the water.
