Auto Repair reviews in Anchorage

  • When I first moved to Anchorage (in 1999) and my vehicle battery died, I asked the expert at Alaska Battery if he could recommend a local mechanic. He told me, "I would never take my car anywhere but Jay's Auto." After more than 18 years of engaging Jay to help with our many vehicles, I still completely agree with this rousing endorsement. Jay is a certified expert mechanic for Mazda, has a wealth of expertise working with many vehicle types, has the highest standard of integrity, and is a pleasure to do business with. He has helped us evaluate, maintain, and repair our vehicles through the past two decades (Mercedes, Porsche, Toyota, Ford, Mazda, Subaru, and Bigfoot - including trucks, RV's, vans, SUV's, hybrids, sedans, and several convertibles). And, if a repair is outside his area of expertise, he knows who to send us to for excellent service. Jay has been unfailingly welcoming, kind, and honorable. His work is the highest quality, timely, and he has earned our trust for guidance on when and what maintenance or repairs are needed. He accommodates our schedules, minimizes costs, and occasionally reminds us about tire switches and routine maintenance - which is much appreciated. It is always a pleasure to have work done through Jay’s Auto. We know our vehicles will be safe. That the work will be done right. Quickly. At a reasonable cost. With genuine care. An auto repair experience just doesn’t get better than that.

  • I brought my car in for several small leaks they fixed those but bent the drift shaft pulley i brought it back to fix this but they changed the idler pulley instead. I also had them fix oil pressure sensor and cruise control ,when my wife picked it up the battery was dead which was odd cause it was brand new, they got her jumped to get her out of there, when she tried to drive down the highway it would only go about 50 and she had to stand on the gas pedal to go that fast. This was after waiting 2 months to get it fixed. I brought it to another mechanic and he said that the sending unit was the wrong one and broken when installed , the cruise control cable was wadded up in the corner under the hood, the battery ground cable was barely connected to the block, and the bracket on the throttle body was missing. Now today I discovered that my front main seal is pouring out oil And it is because of the bent pulley. No matter what your reason is find a different garage, I have never had a worse experience in my life. I spent over$2000 here and had to spend even more to fix the the things they damaged on my car. The biggest mistake I made was going back again and again.

  • I've been using Tudor Auto for years. This review is from a friend who interacted with them today: I have to tell you I love Tudor Auto. My car has some major issues with the engine, but Joe called me and told me they ran a full diagnostic on it and because it takes some specialty tools (lots of them, that only the dealer has) he will not start digging into the engine and bill me a huge amount. He would have to add the cost of the tools also….. So I was able to pick up the car and no charge from them. He was very nice and honest. Not the news I wanted to hear about my engine….but he was very honest

  • Anytime anything is going on funky with my car, I take it to these guys. They explain everything to me. They are more than fair. I love taking my stuff to those guys. He kept telling us to save up for a new car because ours was going out and one day the repair would exceed the cost of the car. He helped me be prepared. I agreed to donate my old car to a program he was involved with where him and his guys fix it up for free and donate it to single mothers. I was glad to be a part of that. I would always drop my car off for the day. Some repairs were minor and he wouldn't let me pay him. What I love about him is that he cares more about the relationship with the car owner than making money. As a car novice I have always been thoroughly walked through what was wrong. I felt they were vested into my car. They are interested in establishing a relationship with the customer. They want to help you take care of your car and save you money.

  • Work took much longer than estimated. Then, when the engine died less than a year later, they refused to stand by their work. Ended up going to Specialized Import Auto Repair for a new (used Japanese) engine, and have been very happy with their work.

  • Matt and Dan are great guys to work with. They are thorough and run diagnostics to be sure that whatever the problem is gets resolved as quickly as possible without jeopardizing the work being done. I have always taken my vehicles to them because I know they will do a good job!

  • I've had bad luck with other auto repair places here and FATS is the one I go back to because they are good all the way around. I drop the car off and they take care of it. I usually drop it off on my way to work and pick it up after. They go through a detail list of everything that was provided and any issues. They will usually call you if there was an issue and if there will be any additional cost and verify you want to have it done. They guy that works the counters' name is Chris. He's on the ball and very, very nice and honest. If they can't diagnosis or fix the problem, they will tell you.

  • the 1st time i used TGC's service, i took them my truck that had a vibration between 60-70 mph, i paid another service center $1200.00 and they did not fix the problem. Matt from TGC researched the problem and found that a $200.00 part would fix it. now i take all my business to them personal and my construction fleet

  • They were average. In the past I usually schedule an appointment, and this was a drop-in. They did what I needed in a short amount of time, and I was back on the road again. Their price was the same as other dealers. There are other places you could probably get a better price. I wasn't able to go over what they did. I didn't have any problems. They do a lot of other things normally. Because I was pressed for time, I didn't have them wash the car or anything. I just had them change the oil and the oil filter, and that was it.

They got me turned around pretty fast for not having an appointment. I live in Sedona and had the work done in Phoenix, so unless I was in the same situation where I just happened to be there when the maintenance reminder came up, I probably wouldn't go back. I would find somebody closer to home. It was kind of an unusual situation; it was definitely out of my way. I don't think I would go out of my way to go there.

  • I have known Dan for 40 years and he has always been a man of his word and always helpful and competent. He has been employed by myself and my family members numerous times. I have always felt confident in trusting Dan and his crew with the responsibility of ensuring my wife and daughter's safety in the repair and upkeep of ALL of our vehicles! Thank you, Dan.... for always being honest, responsible, and reliable!
