What Does a Child Psychiatrist Do?

All seemed fine.  The Dr. had a multiple page form he asked questions from that he hsaid was mandated by law.  While discussing my personal needs and current deep depression, I made it clear that I was spending hours per day crying and that I thought about suicide on a daily basis.  I said that a certain anti-depressant had worked in the past (and prescription had run out as I had moved to Tucson from out of state).  I also told him what hadn't worked for me.  After a painful hour, he said that he had the right to offer or refuse services to any patient and that he would NOT take me on as a patient - this after expressing suicidal thoughts.  He had no other doctor recommendations and suggested I show up to Southern AZ Mental Health ay 8 am (where homeless people get services).
I was stunned.  I thought and continue to think that his refusal to even take me on temporarily was unethical and dangerous to my health.  I ended up having to get my former PCP in my former state to fill one months of the proper anti-depressant and then flew to my former home state to see my psychiatrist there.  How clear does a person have to be that they are suicidal and in need of proper care from a good psychiatrist?

I had just moved to Tucson and needed a psychiatrist to continue prescribing Wellbutrin. Dr. Barnes thought I should add Viibryd to Wellbutrin and had samples. Viibryd is a new SSRI. I should have done my research on drug interactions, but I trusted Dr. Barnes. Viibryd did not give me a migraine, but when I got one my abortive medication did not work. I take Relpax, and if you look up Viibryd drug interactions Relpax is listed for potential serotonin syndrome. I do not know if I had serotonin syndrome or just the worst migraine of my life (I have had migraines for over 30 years). I missed a week of work and ended up in the ER. I understand that this was an easy mistake, and it is possible that my system is more sensitive to drug interactions. However, it is difficult to trust a doctor after being that sick. I talked to the office about my concerns and have not returned to see Dr. Barnes.
Another thing that bothered me about Dr. Barnes' practice is that he spent too much time teaching me stress releasing activities (i.e. EFT) rather than asking me questions and listening.
On a good note, Bernie a psychologist in the Center 4 Stress Reduction is worth seeing for counseling.

I would recommend Dr. Toff to anyone who asked me. The office is clean and the staff make visiting them a joy. Dr. Toff himself is very caring and concerned with my health. He has a professional and calming manner and I feel he is very knowledgeable about my health concerns. Furthermore, when I make appointments, his staff is very good about keeping in contact with me so I don't miss them. I will continue to use him as my primary physician for these reasons.

She is incredible. Sadly,. the does a better job of discussing overall body issues and all medical problems than does my primary care doctor.
This is not a 5 minute and quot;pill pusherand quot;. She spends an hour with me and goes over every aspect of my problems and things happening in my life with me each month. ]

She is a very warm and caring person.

Expensive, if she's not in your insurance network.

Therapy went very well. She is one of the best therapists I have seen. She helped me tremendously. I always enjoyed going to see her and was so easy to communicate with. She listens and asks good questions to help you.

I've had several appointments at the Center4 Stress Reduction, and consider it to be my safe haven. I've had nothing but the best experiences with the folks running, and working here. This is not your run-of-the mill place, this is, in my opinion, what most people are hoping for. The Psychiatrist, Dr. Barnes, is a wonderful and compassionate human being, who truly cares. I also work with an amazing life coach, Tamara, and attend her weekly women's group called, "WOW". All of the people at the center are extraordinary. I love them all. Kim

He is superb in all ways. He doesn't carry a cell phone, he carries a pager because he is the administrator at a psychiatric hospital. He has wonderful hours, and he is more than willing to help you with whatever it is you need. He always returns phone calls promptly.

Very popular, thus, sometimes it can take 1-2 weeks for appt. Office offers wait list and 95% of the time can obtain an appt in a timely manner especially if emergency. Very positive approach to care and concerns. Highly recommended.

She is fantastic. I highly recommend her. She has been in practice for about 6 years. Her patients get an appointment with her in a week or two. They will definitely get an appointment with her in two weeks time. She is very accommodating and good.
