Deck Building reviews in Tucson

The work was completed in a timely and professional manner. The company employees were competent, courteous and cleaned up when each job was complete. Joe Maas (the owner) was great to work with. Always providing bids for each job and when we made the inevitable changes. I believed that the prices quoted were consistent with the work requested. My wife and I are completely satisfied with Southwest Design's work and would definitely hire them again.

Declined to quote saying "WE DO NOT MAKE REPAIRS ON JOBS WE DID NOT DO ORIGINALLY!" What a crock of crap! Is this some sort of elitist company that is over-booked? Sorry, Angie, you're listing a loser!

Very disappointed to have to write a review like this, given the fact that we actually had a consultation with this company, they took measurements, we were excited about their ideas, and we hoped that once the estimate came the numbers would work out for us all. Problem is, we never got an estimate--after two follow-ups over the course of two weeks. The first time, we were told they "thought that went through" and we'd have the estimate by the following week; nothing happened; we sent an email and...crickets. Just astonishing from a company this highly rated; that is a really low bar they failed to clear. Will certainly not be calling them again.

Excellent. Joe and his crew showed up as scheduled and completed the job in around 5 hours hours without a break. The old 2x6 and 2x4 boards were taken out and replaced. The new boards had been painted ahead of time which expedited the effort. The finished product looks great and the price was very reasonable. I will hire Joe for other construction work in the future. A+ across the board.

It went more than well. They came when they should have. They behaved as they should have. And they were completely professional in all of their activities. Moreover, the finished product is perfect (and I rarely use that word): fine edges, even finishes, amazing amount of prep work, and exquisite care to produce a wonderful outcome. The team that worked for three days--Modesto, George, and Dionicio--were unfailingly polite, conscientious, and hardworking. Rarely, these days, do we encounter those who take immense pride in their work and produce an equally proud outcome. Even their followup was well done: fine cleanup every day, and a sincere call from the owner to assure our satisfaction. We could not give a higher recommendation for Sebastian Painting.

Larry Rylance and his wife and crew are without question the best such contractor I have worked with (and I've worked with many building two homes and now adding this pool and a guest house). Any questions were answered or taken care of quickly and his work was done quickly and efficiently. I liked his work so much that my wife and I then hired him to do a cement pavers walkway that I was originally going to have another contractor do. I highly recommend them.

The work went great. The painters were super nice and professional, always patient in helping us find the right solution when problems came up. Our house is very old and unsurprisingly the work extended beyond the initial estimate in time. Nevertheless, Dave and his team took the time to get everything (repairs, colors, ...) just the way we wanted it done. Kudos!

They were here for several months, doing all kinds of stuff. Originally, I met him thru my realtor when I was buying this house. He finished building my back decks and my barbecue about November of last year, but they were here about 6 months.

I would absolutely use him again, he would be the first guy I call. It was a huge job. We bought a bank owned property that was in pretty rough shape. He came in and he and his crew redid pretty much the entire interior. Then on the back he put a double deck balcony, because I have a mountain view, and he built me a big outdoor kitchen.

He has about 5 guys on his crew and he brought in specialists as he needed them. He brought in a framing crew to do the framing on the back balcony and he brought in a stone mason to do the stone work around where he wanted it.

[Viga and viga-tail repair category not offered, but "decks & porches" is the closest I could come--this was one of the "Things" of "Decks & Things"] Before we bought our house a year and a half ago the inspector told us that some of the vigas might need to be repaired. Boy, was he right! The previous owner had concealed dry rot and termite damage by concealing the damage with roof coating and paint--the vigas looked great from the ground, but most were punky and disintegrating. Because we had no idea of how much work would be needed, I did not seek, or require, an estimate or competitive bid (Bob had done great work for us before). Knowing that he has a great work ethic, we agreed that the job would be time and materials--something I'm sure that Bob is delighted with, now that the job has been finished. For three weeks Bob DeNigris and Monty worked daily, sometimes aided by Bob's son Bobby (and friendly dog Inuk), to saw off about 52 through-the-wall vigas, plus another dozen or so that we just ornamental viga "tails" that did not extend into the interior of the house (requiring working through the inside walls to avoid exterior stucco damage). The cut ends were sanded, filled, and sealed, and brand new viga tails were screwed on: fully painted, each with a custom fabricated stainless steel half-circle cover to protect them from the elements (the original project was just to fabricate and install the covers, but soon became a major replacement undertaking after we discovered the poor condition of the existing vigas). Bob and his crew always arrived on time, kept us informed of their schedule and progress, frequently consulted with us on design and finish issues, and left the area spotless each day. The project was a delight to watch. Bob measured each of the vigas to be replaced (these were actual timbers, knots and all, that had not been milled), then special ordered rough-hewn timbers that he trucked to the site, where he cut them into individual viga-tails to match the diameter and length of the tails being replaced.

The steps were totally rebuilt from the frame up to new outdoor carpeting. Not only are the steps now safe, they're stronger and more stable than the original steps were. The quality of work done is outstanding. I would recommend Ronnie's Handyman Service to anyone who needs any level of home repairs done.
