  • I had an extensive interview with the manager.  Some of my concerns included ratio of caregiver to resident and turnover among caregivers.  Cleanliness is a factor as is opportunity for socialization and quality of food.  Ratio of caregiver to resident is 2 to a maximum of ten residents during the day and one caregiver for 8 hours at night.  When I visited later, I often saw caregivers spending time sitting with residents, polishing finger nails, conversing.  Residents were always dressed and presentable during the day.   Nearly all had dementia, and care could be a challenge.  Meals were prepared in the kitchen there and were appetizing and well presented.  Residents mostly spent time together in the living room during the day, but could stay in their rooms if they preferred.  A doctor is on call and a nurse and an exercise lady visit regularly. A podiatrist also visits monthly.   My mother lived there for 3 years before she died in December, 2010.  When she arrived she was losing weight and refusing to eat.  Once there she began to eat well and gained weight and her health improved.

She was my 3rd family member in a period of 8 years to need care, so I have seen a number of facilities.  This one isn't as fancy as some, but the care is the best I have seen.  The facility is practical with wide halls and comfortable recliners for residents.  It is clean and Provider name locked. and would be my choice again for someone with dementia.  My mother stayed in the Oak Tree house, one of 3 at the Spring Street location.

By availability, I meant that rooms there are not always available.  Personnel are always available and the phone is always answered.
