Recent Review: Fantastic.  James was so thorough in the upfront sales process that it left too many unanswered questions with the other estimates we received to go with anyone but Over The Top!  He was the only one who looked in the attic to get a better view of what we were dealing with from the inside.  The proposal was also far more thorough and specific to our house's unique needs than any of the others.   The price was competitive for our large roof -- a little higher than our other estimates, but I am not 100% sure it was apples to apples based on the thoroughness of their proposal and commitment to replace certain pieces (versus put old pieces back up to cut corners). They worked with us on price as much as possible to make it work. Once we accepted the proposal, he was there for us throughout the process.  We were pleasantly surprised with the speed of the project--most people estimated a week and they put several crews on it to get it done in ONE day (gutters the next day, on a Saturday!) because heavy rain was forecasted.  The crew was great and the roof & gutters look really nice.  When there was a gutter adjustment needed they made it right asap at no additional charge.  We have very high standards across project management, quality of work and customer service post-sale and we are happy. Thanks to the  whole team!

Skyline Exteriors, LLC
Recent Review: I have a 105-year old house with a worn back roof that needed replacement. Three other companies had come and bid the project, all from the ground. Todd drove out, looked in the attic, climbed the roof, measured by hand (other companies had overbid the project by up to 4 squares) and showed me the number of layers of material (3-5 layers of shingles plus cedar shakes, other companies bid based on removal of two layers total with unspecified extra charges for extra layers). The bid from Skyline was the most thorough, honest appraisal of the situation with no hidden fees (total costs were slightly higher than original estimate due to rotten wood found after tear-off. Each time Todd invited me to come up and see the area with him that needed replacement and approve the work, and he always came in under the estimate for the replacement cost). He also provided photos and references for other roofing projects he has done. The work was done very professionally, they cleaned up thoroughly every evening. The work was top-notch, looks great, and he even fixed up a broken corner of my vinyl siding since he had the tools along and it only took a minute. He also found a carpenter ant infestation in the rafters of one of the flat roofs and cleaned it out, as well. At one point they were walking a flat roof during tear-off and a foot went through some rotten wood, damaging the plaster ceiling below, I am currently getting estimates for the repair which Todd said he would cover with no hesitation. He was truly concerned with improving my house, not just completing a sale. I haven't found many businesses with such a strong ethic for building trust and exceeding expectations, I heartily recommend Skyline.

CDouble D Builders Roofing, Siding, and Gutter, LLC
First time quoted didn't "notice" we had cedar shake and that it would have to be torn off and plywood put down on entire roof, after we pointed out he increased the price as low as he could because "it was his fault". Price still seemed fair. Told us they wouldn't need a dumpster. First day on the job they tell us they are going to have to get a dumpster and that they were going to have to "eat" a layer because they didn't realize that there were 3 layers. (After we pointed out that we had cedar shake and needed that torn off and plywood put down a second guy came with to check out the roof-apparently neither of these guys realized how many layers there were???) Roof took longer than quoted, the flashing on our brand new windows was damaged in the process of replacing the roof, after pointing it out, 2 guys were sent out to fix the flashings, but the flashing that they put up look nothing like our other undamaged windows. During the tear off our plants were flattened, I must say that they did a great job cleaning up. The dumpster left huge gashes in our lawn. The vibrations from them replacing the roof caused the plaster in our bedroom to fall on our bed- they hired someone to fix this. We were told over and over what a nightmare this job was. My husband and I are in our 20s and feel that if we had been older and our house been newer that we may have been treated better. The roof itself looks great, the guys that actually installed the roof worked from 7am until at least 8pm- they were very hardworking and put in more than a full days work everyday they came out and were very courteous. After I spoke to the owner he asked what he could do to make us happy at that point this 1-2 day job had turned into a 3 week job and I refused anything else because we just wanted to be done with the situation.

I live in Wisconsin and needed to find a roofer in DC to replace the original roof on my father's (expensive) house. I have a good deal of contracting experience and have done residential roofing myself. I used Angie's list to find 4 roofers, from whom I got bids. When I called Capitol Roofing, I spoke with Marcus Silva, who went over in great detail with me what needed to be done. The job was difficult for a number of reasons. The house is off the road and it is impossible to get either a lift or a dumpster next to the house. This means that all debris from the tear-off and the shingles for installation all have to be hand carried. Second, the original roof was covered with ceramic tile, extremely heavy and very brittle, requiring great care in its removal. In addition to the ceramic tile, there were "normal" shingles, damaged tin, rotted cedar shakes on the dormers, and a small copper roof over a bay window in the rear. I was impressed with the detail in the bidding process, as well as the questions they asked. I received a detailed bid via e-mail, complete with a schematic of what would be replaced, as well as a number of photos of the existing problem areas. I accepted the bid, knowing that a few additional expenses would be necessary, depending on what we found in terms of fascia condition, etc. The job went smoothly. Capitol had a manager assigned to the job. Kevin was extremely knowledgeable and detail-oriented. When we took a good look at the dormers, we found that the sills of the windows had rotted and that the window frames were damaged. Kevin personally replaced the wood and installed new windows (at an agreed-upon additional cost). Weather was a continuing problem but Kevin kept me up-to-date on the schedule. He also dealt with my father, explaining in detail what needed to be done and why. I am very satisfied. As to the expense, I knew going in that to do the job correctly, it would cost. I got a total of 4 bids and Capitol's was one of the 2 smack dab in the middle. The work is not cheap but the quality of the work, the nature of the materials, and the logistics involved made the project a good value.
