Recent Review: These guys were recommended by two different friends who had used them. They showed up quickly, provided an estimate (hourly, but not to exceed a fixed amount), were punctual and reliable, but most impressively, they were courteous and friendly and unflappable when things didn't necessarily go as planned, or we decided to change what we wanted them to do midstream. They were meticulous about even the smallest detail and refused to be satisfied with anything less than perfection. They were, quite frankly, the best overall contractor experience we have ever had. We will certainly use them again (for interior painting) and have already recommended them to friends.

Recent Review: This father and son team are the best!. I live in an older home (57 yrs.) and discovered Smith Construction and Remodeling in 2008 when I had bad leaking of water into my basement laundryroom. I chose the Beaver System as it was more affordable than complete draintile repair and had a good reputation. The company contracted with Smith Construction and a work relationship was born. Since that time I've utilized them for a new deck, privacy fence instillation, repair of foundation wall crack, instillation of downspout "bubblers" ( this is an underground pipe system that channels gutter runoff away from house and pops a heavy plastic bubbler to empty it into the yard - no downspout extenders to move and mow around! ) the summer of 2011. Even with extreme heat and rain they preservered. Part of the fence was put together in my garage during a rainstorm so a work day would not be lost! These two men work quickly and efficiently, my garage was cleaner when they left than when they started( she says with face reddening). The project April 14,2012 was done on a Saturday because a series of rain storms were predicted and John and his dad wanted to make sure the room where the continuation of the Beaver System would stay dry. Not alot of contractors would work a Saturday for a client's convenience. I would highly reccommend this company to anyone needing construction, remodeling, waterproofing, and home repair. Thank you.

From the beginning I requested multiple times, a written contract with product names, product amount, and how the product would be applied. He would not give that to me. He was continuously running around telling me that we will take care of you and to not worry. The day he came out to start the project, he gave me a piece of paper with the amounts of the product but not the name of the product; not a professional contract, which I had requested multiple times. When I finally had a chance to look at the plastic container of the waterproofing product (which was after they had already finished applying the product) it states that the first two coats of the product must be painted or rolled on or there will not be a guarantee that the finished product would be waterproof. I hired him to completely waterproof and paint the exterior of the building to prevent any damage. It has been an awful experience. It has been a hassle getting them to complete the work, and it has been extremely difficult working with him. He was very condescending when I called to check on the project. He was supposed to give me receipts for the work, which he never provided. He billed me for 40 gallons of product. Originally, he said he needed 30 gallons. He called me back and said that was an underestimate and said he needed $350 more for 10 more gallons. I kept asking for a contract, but he refused to bring one of those, either.  I wanted a receipt for the name of the product and the amount used, which I need for future projects and he would not provide it. He was supposed to come out on a Friday, and showed up the next Monday. When they did the work, some of their paint got on my freshly done asphalt. After I'd paid him for the work, he brought an empy plastic container of the waterproof primer that he had used. It says on the container that it needs two coats applied with a brush or roller, which it wasn't. All product was sprayed on. None of it was rolled on. I asked Scott to come back out and Rick rolled the paint over the south wall to fill in the holes. I complained about the work, and he said that he wasn't coming back. He told me that I should have gone out to check the label on the can before the project started. The work has definitely not been completed to my satisfaction. He had 2 empty paint cans at the site that were made for wood, which was not what he was painting. When I asked about those, he said that he brought them to hold down the canvas. (I don't see how they would hold down the canvas empty as they wouldn't be heavy enough.) He was unprofessional and I was very disappointed with the work. He told me if I wanted more work done, I would have to have him come back out to do more estimates on labor and product to have the job done how I had originally requested. The painter, Rick, that did the last wall (employee of Jordan Painting) offered to come back for free labor if Scott didn't approve it, but gave me a bogus number. Rick agreed that the walls needed additional coverage to meet the agreement, but I wasn't able to get in touch with him.

Bid $2,200.00 for chimney repair, tuck pointing of house and chimney, repair of front porch, waterproofing and flashing, washing of whole house top to bottom.  Required a $1,500.00 deposit with the remaining $700.00 due upon completion in 2 weeks. The following week he said he said he would lay brick above a side garage door, 2 garage windows and above the main garage door and jack up and replace the garage door header for an additional $750.00.  I agreed, and he asked for $450.00 for materials to include brick, angle irons, header and sealant which I paid. Over the coarse of 6 weeks he showed up occasionally and worked a few hours here and there and continued to ask for additional money.  Over this time I paid an additional $500.00 only because I was afraid he would never return to complete the work.   On 7/26/14 he said he was coming to wash the house and wanted an additional $250.00. I delayed responding to him until he said he was done and then told him I was out of town and would pay him after I returned and inspected the work. This lead to a heated phone discussion, demand of payment and eventually him hanging up on me. When I returned on Saturday to find that he only cleaned the gutters, not the entire house I refused payment and another more heated phone conversion ensued prompting me to call the police. I informed him he was fired and I would not pay another cent and to never call, text or come on my property again or I would call the police and that I intended to take him to small claims court in an attempt to recover some of the money for the materials he never produced and the work that was never completed but paid for. cleaner and The motor on my home is partially ground out in some areas, partially filled in some, not yet touched in other areas, missing bricks, is exposed above one window, mortar stained, landscaping torn up, stoop not complete, and missing the materials I paid for (brick, lumbar for header, flashing, cleaner and sealant.)
