Recent Review: I actually conducted all of my business with Dand D Excavating via e-mail. The Office Manger, Amy Dorn, answered all of my questions and scheduled the service via e-mail for me. Every single e-mail was answered promptly and I'm talking about within a 24 hour period... I sent an e-mail the night before at 7 p.m. and my e-mail was returned within minutes confirming everything. Amy was extremely pleasant and professional to work with during the entire process. They did call me the morning of 09/06 when the topsoil was delivered to let me know they were running ahead of schedule and asked if they could deliver sooner than my regularly scheduled time which was not an issue at all. I'm no landscaper and I'm a first time home owner. The dirt delivered was brown and well sifted. There were not many rocks at all. Let me throw out a disclaimer. This isn't pitch black organic dirt you'd buy in an expensive 20-pound bag from Home Depot. It is GOOD dirt. I don't think I'd utilize it to start an organic, high-quality garden, but my wife and I purchased this truckload to grade away from the entire foundation of our entire home. I'm placing that disclaimer in because I've read a lot of poor reviews given by individuals who seem to be whole-heartedly disappointed they aren't getting ultra-premium black-as-the-night-sky organic dirt. Dand D Excavating and Landscape Service, Inc. did everything we asked and then some... they were a pleasure to do business with and I would gladly recommend them to any of my friends and family. Nicely done, guys...

AUp-Right Services
A persistent but intermittent leak from one spot at the upper rim of our house's foundation (where the framing met concrete) had bedeviled us since buying the home in 2005. The apparent origin of the leak was adjacent to our front patio slab (T-shaped split level). Finally, after consulting several foundation specialists (along with siding, concrete and gutter contractors) who diagnosed the problem only by looking at the dried-out spot and our photos of the still-wet foundation, we found Up-Right Services. Up-Right methodically determined the leak's source by the simple expedient of taking a hose and pouring water around the suspect area while one of their team watched inside. Sure enough, the water actually came from a different wall, ran along the foundation edge, turned a corner and finally spilled over and onto the floor at out originally presumed "source" location. They were the only company we tried who didn't attempt to sell us a preconceived and expensive "fix" based upon a cursory glance at the affected area. We're now on our fourth major rain since the patch and not one drop of water has entered our basement. Last but not least, Up-Right's bill was $150.00 less than their original estimate. If you're in the Green Bay area with a leaky basement I heartily recommend Up-Right Services be your first phone call.

FSemenas Excavating & Trucking Inc
May 2013, we hired Semenas Excavating and Contracting for the construction of our new home. Ron said our contract was on the high end and it wouldn't be more than that. The Semenas company did not abide by the contract. The stoop was to be filled with stone as the contract stated. When Ron was questioned, he replied "the stoop was filled with clay and chunks of cement. Most people don't notice. I was trying to save you some money." No where did we get any savings from them putting clay and chunks of cement in there. Ron ripped up drain tile in the basement with a Bobcat. Ron stated he would be back to fix the drain tile which we ended up having to fix on our own. He hit the basement wall with the Bobcat and left a crack and a big chip. July 2013 Ron Semenas was notified to put the septic system in. Ron showed up with a bill for $2,100 for pulling cement trucks which was not stated in the contract. The contractor notified him several times to get the driveway in so that it would be easier for everyone working. Ron pretty much refused to put our driveway in before the cement trucks came in and it was basically clay. He was buddies with the guy who was pouring the cement and was doing the cement guy a favor. He was trying to get extra money for somebody which was not us. Before you hire anyone, you should check public records. He refused to finish our excavating contract. Our excavating contract was for $18000 and he tried to bill us $4500 more. The positive experience we got out of this is that the new plumber and excavator gave us a much better design. The new plumber also noted concerns and/or possible issues with the orignal design plan that had been submitted by Semenas. Ron Semenas refused to put or septic mound system in until the extra $4500.00 bills were paid for. He refused to give us  our septic permits that we paid $1400.00.   Ron Semenas refused to finish the excavating contract and the septic system mound contract. Semenas did damage to a brand NEW house. Did not use materials specified in contract between us and semenas trucking. Billed us in excess of $4500.00 over the contract of $18,882.00. Semenas kept our $1400.00 permits. Due to it being late in the season this increased our cost considerably. CONSUMER BEWARE.

AAndersen Basement Repair
Jim worked along side his crew every day, to oversee the job. He arrived every day promptly, and stayed until it started getting dark. He and his workers were very professional, polite and courteous. They kept me updated on their progress, and asked for input with specific things such as: where to place the sump pump, basement windows, and basement entryway. They removed all shrubery around the house prior to starting the excavation, and cleaned up the work area, and any debrie left in the yard after the job was completed. I was very pleased with the results, and would recommend his work to anyone who has basement issues.

ARob Giese Construction Services, Inc.
Rob and his crew showed up early in the morning and worked hard all day to get things done.  He started off supporting the house with leveling jacks and started digging under our living room area.  Rob's crew spread gravel and prepped for the foundation footings to be poured.  After another company poured the basement walls, Rob returned and laid brick under the existing home and in between the new basement and the old stone basement.  They also laid the drain tile and prepped the hole for our sump pump.  After the floor was poured, Rob returned to place the permanent leveling posts and finish the sump pump hole.  The yard was graded and leveled, not perfectly, but other subcontractors made a bigger mess of our yard that Rob's group.   Overall, Rob is very knowledgeable in the excavating and masonry field.  I would highly recommend him to family and friends.  After all, when the owner of a company shows up to work all day on your home, you know things are going to be done right.

AEgbert Excavating Inc
Egbert was incredibly responsive. They were extremely busy with other projects but were very understanding of my time frame and bent over backwards to do whatever I needed. It was a fairly small job which made thier pefomance even better. They stopped by between other jobs, moved equipment from other jobs and even dropped off a piece of equipment (for free) so that one of my other contractors could use it over the weekend. I would recommend Dan Egbert to anyone. His price was very fair and his customer service was outstanding.

AAndersen Basement Repair
The weather caused understandable delays for the start of the project but once they got started they were here every day, on time and worked hard. They were respectful of the yard and went out of there way to minimize any damage and keep as much of the landscaping as possible. They excavated two walls completely to the footings and put in bigger diameter drain tile for the three walls that had a problem. Two walls were cracked and bowed in at the top almost 6 inches. The front frost wall under the cement porch was also bowed in which caused the front porch to sag bad enough to distort the vinyl siding under the roof overhang. When the house was built there was no backfill placed behind the porch frost wall that allowed it to tip in. No drain tile to drain off water was originally installed along the footing of the frost wall and the frost wall was backfilled with clay. These three poor workmanship issues were the cause of the front porch movement. The freezing and melting caused the frost wall to bow in which caused the sagging of the porch and the cracking of the three layers of brick under the porch (decorative). Some of the bricks below the porch slab actually fell out. There were also cracks in the front brickwork above the porch slab especially where the two front bowed windows met the front brickwork on the house proper. To support the cement porch they built a commercial block wall in front of the existing tipped frost wall. The wall extended to the footing for the three fourths the length of the porch. The base footing at each end of the frost wall cracked causing the ends to settle more than the rest of the frost wall. This repair required a pier at each end of the frost wall to raise and support the footings and level the entire span below the front cement porch. A laser was used to insure the frost wall repairs were straight. Bricks were replaced via new mortar as necessary and any cracks in the brickwork were retucked with new mortar. Four inch drain tile was added along the length of the porch frost wall and the three repaired walls were back filled with clear stone to insure no drainage problems in the future. The two full length walls were jacked out straight, cracks filled with hydraulic cement and sealed with epoxy sealing compound on both sides (inside and out). High density foam sheets were stuck to the rolled on epoxy seal coating. Rectangular steel tubing reinforcement beams were added on the inside of the walls as necessary. They were bolted at the top to the floor joists and embedded in new concrete in the basement floor. Additional work included re-plumbing the two existing sub pump discharges that were originally Y'ed together, adding PVC lines for three eve trough downspouts to the storm drain connection. These were added for minimum additional cost (parts only). The yard was also grading for proper drainage away from the house. The grading had to be redone as some water would still puddle between the house and the neighbors. This minor issue was done hassle free without any resistance. The final bill came in $1K below the estimate quote (not expected with the additional things they did for parts only cost). ABR cares about the quality of their work and the satisfaction of their customers. They did a very professional, cost effective repair. Lessons learned; all the basement foundation issues were caused by the walls being backfilled with clay when the house was built 31 years ago. The clay retains water which because of its weight adds pressure to the outside of the walls. Freezing and melting for over 30 years caused the wall movement. These were poured walls not block but no wall will survive these stresses forever. The repairs are guaranteed for 20 years (transferable) and the clear stone will insure no water buildup against the walls and I'm confident any problems in the future.

FBaldwin Building Improvements
I thougtht I hired a good local company "Baldwin Building Improvements"  Dale R. Baldwin owner. Dale Baldwin came over to the house to survey  the situation of what I had and what I wanted.Baldwin assured me his company could in fact do the job as he had carpenters electricians plummers bricklayers and excavation people working for him. I check him out with the BBB he had two complaints one they didn't deal with the other was rectified or dropped. He seemed like an honest guy. As the process started to move along things turned out not the way I expected from a man in the business for 27+ years. This is how it went, he didn't furnish proper or complete paper work-never got it,didn't check city ordinances out on a timely basis caused delays, didn't check over materials list -serious mistakes made-delays, didn't have the man power he had claimed only two men -delays, didn't have the proper equipment for the job-too small- delays, didn't have efficient demo plan- delays, didn't come to work but two days a week- more delays. The job started Nov 04/2010 as of Feb. 2011 there wasn't even a foundation to build a garage on. Baldwin said it would take three weeks. The weather was not a problem but Baldwin 's excuses were. Baldwin just plain ignored all attempts by me the BBB the Consumer protection agency and my Attorney to get the problems resolved or my money returned. To this day Sept. 22/2012 I still cannot get back the money  Dale R. Baldwin owes me , even after a settlement and then a court judgment he just ignores it and goes about his business. This company - Dale R. Baldwin cost my family thousands of hard earned dollars and far too much grief!!!!!!! I had to hire another company to do the job what a difference real professionals make,my thanks to them.  If you would like to find out about other people Baldwin has cheated out of money check out Dale R. Baldwin on ccap/wi.  he's been doing it for a long time."
