Recent Review: I have a combination heater/air conditioner (heat pump) in my condo unit (similar to what is in a hotel).  Since May, it had not been working properly - either the heat would work and the air would not, or the air would work and the heat would not.  I had several other companies come to try to fix it (called GE as it's a GE product and they would 'farm out' the service techs) only to find everyone didn't know how to even work on these units.  I finally turned to Angie's List and found Capital Heating & Cooling which clearly had on their website that they worked on and installed heat pumps.  I began working with Marcie and she was a pleasure to work with from the beginning!  We discussed the option of a new unit versus fixing the unit I had.  She found a replacement within a day, only to find that the new unit was larger than the current unit.  This meant that they would have to cut into the wall, which meant condo board approval for me.  I told her that I preferred to have someone take a look at it just one more time.  We set up an appointment for Monday, 11/11/13 between 9:30 - 10:30 with Dan.  On the morning of, Dan called to say that he was about 1/2 hour away and arrived around 10:00.  He took his shoes off (which he didn't need to, but it was nice).  I explained everything that the previous companies did, and he got right to work and assured me he would get it taken care of.  Well, within about an hour or so, he had the heat fixed and told me that it wasn't working due to it being wired wrong.  He gave me his card and said to call any time.  It was such a relief to know that I now have a reputable company to work with!  Thank you!

Reviews in Jackson to Install Heat Pump

C1st Choice Heating & Cooling
Getting the work scheduled was difficult. Access to the correct person was very limited. They did not work well with other subcontractors on the job and I was forced to intercede in a conflict between the subs in order to get my job done. They also did not honor the full contracted amount when they did not send in the correct rebate paperwork. As a result some of the promised rebates in the contract were never received and the total job cost was more than listed in the contract.

Furnace tune-up was done professionally, weather to cold for heat pump tune up. Tech did not have proper diagrams and had my wife and I chasing around for furnace books. Billed $400 filed complaint with better business- Keystone refunded $200. Cost me time & money, Keystone owner overbilled job, will never use again!

They were subcontracted through the Home Depot to install my furnance and heat pump. While here they were suppose to replace the gas pipe and add a chimmey liner. To this date the gas pipe has never been replaced because they didn't have the correct size pipe. And the chimmey liner was never put in because my chimmey was too tall. I will never use them again

I did significant research. The technology options, the heat pump brands and vendors. I asked for bids from several. This was not the lowest bid but I liked the product, company rep and the value best. They did an outstanding job. The job was done professionally, on time and works as promised. My electric power bill has decreased almost in half in winter. I will add that the first rep to come out from this company was not impressive and I almost wrote them off. Turns out he was new and was fired or left shortly after. But then Joe Maly came out and saved the deal.

The salesman, had a very educational style -- no hard sell.  The price was lower than the other bids.  The installers were great -- very polite, kept everything neat and were very persistent when they ran into a couple of complications in the install.  I love how they found a way to use the joist space for one of the new ducts so I didn't lose any headroom.

Overall our experience with the project was very postive. Though we were informed beforehand, it was hard to realize how much of a mess the yard would become. This fact was explained beforehand and grading was in the budget. System sees to work very well and so far we have no reservations. It is too early to see if we will actually save 40% or so on our heating cost (as estimated). Make sure if you go with geotherm technology, you interact with Dan Firkus, who is very knowledegable and professional.

BLAKE COUNTRY HTG & COOLING
installation went as planned except that I expected the pipes from the loop field to come into the house underground, mine were brought above grade and then into the house. Lake Country (LC) said this was to avoid 'seepage' but I suspect its because they do mostly new construction where other contractors probably take care of sealing up pipe entries through foundation walls. From what I have read about geothermal it should have come into the house underground but opinions vary, including from GeoComfort (HP brand). IGSPHA will not give you advice and I have not read any IGSPHA manuals. Also, the duct work was not the same quality of craftsmanship as that from when the house was built (1957); but then again some duct work I had done this year by another contractor wasn't as good either. aI had to hire my own electrician because LC doesn't do 'high voltage' work (again new construction, other contractors do electrical work needed, LC strictly heating and cooling). That means if you have electric backup heat you need extra 240V(high voltage) wiring done; also for the heat pump itself. I do not blame LC for the electrical since it is mentioned in their proposal, its my problem I didn't think of the extra expense and inconvenience. The heat pump has been working since last summer, two cooling and one heating season. The HP has made a few strange noises, kind of a thud, at times where the compressor would start before the blower fan. Most times the fan starts before the compressor. When the tech came this summer for the annual maintenance recommended he said there was a loose wire he tightened. The system hasn't been running enough this year for me to notice if this fixed the anomaly. The reason I would not hire this contractor again is not because they didn't do good work but because I would want a contractor that did all the electrical themselves and who would definitely bring the loop field pipes into the house underground. Unfortunately it is hard to find a geothermal installer that did not branch out from HVAC that do the geo work as a filler to their normal business.

They told me that I had a system that was too small for my house after they measured the square footage of my house. They gave me several options for systems and different options like a hybrid heat pump or adding an air conditioner. Of all of the companies we looked at, Gross is the one we will probably go with because they were the most professional and they seemed the most knowledgeable. The information they gave us what confirmed by two other companies that we got quotes from. They were courteous and the proposal they gave me is clear and shows what the prices and rebates are.

It went fine.  Jerry came on time and went right to work.  Jerry has been here before for Rozga and is very personable, answers all questions and does an excellent job.  He worked on installing the pump which did take awhile.  After installation he went over the operation of the pump with me.  He also answered a few questions about other plumbing/heating concerns I had.  I waited awhile to see how the pump worked for us.  It used to take almost 2 minutes to get hot water.  Now we get hot water in about 20 seconds.  I have a daughter who is very sensitive to temperature changes and it is much easier for her to wash her hands and not have to wait for warm water.
