Recent Review: Initial contact: I called Jerrod, and heard back within a couple of days. The bid: Jerrod and a few other companies came out to quote the job. Jerrod looked at the two walls we wanted done and asked about our design ideas. After hearing our ideas, he addressed some issues with the design, and gave us some other options. He also pointed out some other things we needed to think about... things only a mason would have recognized. He asked about the size of the windows, doors, the type of stone veneer we wanted, etc. My point is that he was very thorough and was getting as much information as possible to make an accurate estimate. He gave me a FIRM price for the job.  The job: The team showed up on time and immediately set to work. They guys were all really nice and were happy to answer any questions I had. It was finished within a timely manner and the yard was cleaned up nicely afterwards. The walls look AMAZING! Archstone Masonry has amazing talent! The stone veneer looks like real stone, and the masonry is great quality.  If you need a mason... don't look any farther than Archstone Masonry! You will be extremely pleased.

Recent Review: All promises were kept.  The stone veneer was removed per my request.  They attached new plyboard and cedar shingles.  In the process, they also improved certain structural aspects of the architecture going above and beyond my expectations.  The trim in and around my windows was improved, for example, to make them more weatherproof.  They painted my gutter also which was nicely done and an improved appearance.  I was extremely impressed overall and feel that I got a lot of bang for my buck.

Recent Review: Initial contact was to repair the stone veneer on the exterior wall. Bert was very quick to respond to our call and upon his review we identified more sever issues....failure of the stucco above causing serious dry rot and wet termite damage. Nothing was visible from the exterior and only uncovered when he removed the old stone. Bert was not able to do the structural repairs needed to remove the windows and doors replacing the damaged wood, but was very supportive in helping us find a separate contractor to do this work. While a second contractor was required, he worked closely with them to coordinate activeties to keep the project moving. Bert was very professional and did beautiful work matching the original stucco and stones.

Recent Review: I am very happy with the work that Ken has done for me and feel fortunate to have a multi-skilled handyman I can call upon to help me with all the projects around the house. The first job I hired Ken for was to refurbish my extremely ugly front door. A previous owner had applied a dark stain that was mottled and streaking and the veneer was all chipped at the bottom of the door. Ken took the door to his shop, sanded the exterior-facing side of the door, rubbed it multiple times with Danish Oil, took an artist brush and applied a darker stain to a recessed design element in the door, applied new locks, handle and a kick plate that covered the peeling veneer. The door is now beautiful and gets continuing compliments from visitors. Then, I hired Ken to help demolish parts of my flooded basement -- sheetrock and framing removal. He works fast and did a great job and kept things cleaned up. Next, I hired Ken to replace around 12 feet of picket fence that had been removed by Aces Four so that they could trench at the back of my house. The fence replacement required making and placing 4 new posts, making some new pickets, and gate repair. Also part of this project was to build a lumber retaining wall underneath the fence and alot of clay removal. Most recently, Ken framed the new bathroom in the basement working in conjunction with my plumber. The plumber mentioned that Ken did an excellent job. I like that Ken cares about doing a good job and making the customer happy. He goes the extra mile. I have recommended him to two different sets of friends; both have been very pleased with his work.

Recent Review: A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE !!! They have been extremely dishonest with us and told us they were licensed and bonded but they are NOT. Not one thing happened on time, they have only delivered the concrete patio so far and it's September 1st nearly , they wrote multiple bad checks to the concrete company and the pump truck so were nearly had leins on placed on our home. They left 10 yard of dirt and grass in our culdesac that we had to physically haul away after promising NUMEROUS times they would remove. They rarely if ever answer their phones and when they do it's only to give excuses as to why nothing has happened since they latest "promise of the week". We literally have to call them 20+ times in a day to get them to call us back. We are looking at having to hire an attorney and our backyard is a wreck. This experience has gone beyond our wildest dreams of how bad a project can possibly go.

I love working with Jerrod and his crew. Jerrod is extremely knowledgeable about his profession and easy to talk to as well. He let me decide on the stone i like, then asked me to join him at the stone yard in picking them out. I end up deciding on Montana Rockworks - a mixture of 3 different types of stones, in the following proportions: 50 sq ft Castle Rock, 10 sq ft Montana Antique, 10 sq ft McGregor). The old, ugly brick fireplace was demoed in less than 1hr. A few days later, Dave the mason came by to build my beautiful stone veneer fireplace. They start work early and are professional and courteous in their work - covering all the wood floors with Ramboard as well as cleaning up after work is completed.  I think building a fireplace and attempting to fit all the stones together like a natural jigsaw is a work of craft - and Dave achieve that flawlessly. I love my new fireplace - everybody who has seen it has nothing but good words about it. It's definitely the centerpiece of my living room right now and i intend to choose the smallest light fixture to avoid obscuring the view of the fireplace face!

I can't really remember the dates he worked at our home, so the above dates are very approximate; also the cost. Very personable and helpful person.  He came all the way from Olympia to Seattle to do the work, unusual for him; was eager to please, and did a responsible and good job throughout, responding to our requests in good spirit.  The best thing he did was to restore and refinish our odd size and in bad condition front door, for a reasonable price, adding pieces where the door was worn and veneer was peeling, then staining the whole thing.  We have had many compliments on his artistic and creative solution to a difficult problem.  He helped us avoid having to replace our beautiful oak door.  We would definitely hire him again!

Ceiling project went well - professional sub-contractors, quality work and on-time. They sealed off living room from rest of home. Replace wood framing around interior living room windows and doors. Workers failed to seal off living room (Ravenna estimate document states that "all work areas will be isolated with 4-6 mil plastic sheeting with zipper closures for dust control when prudent" ). Dust layer ended up in rest of house - mainly in kitchen. After reporting, no return communications to calls and email for several days. Ravenna agreed to clean up areas the following Monday - this was not done. I raised issue again a couple weeks later and agreement was that someone would come in to clean rest of house. No one did so I ended up cleaning the dust layer throughout the house. Staining of window frames and doors. Instructions were to stain one layer and then we would review to determine if another layer was necessary. Workers did not follow directions and put on 2 layers on same day. Second layer was applied before 1st layer dried. The texture of stain was not smooth..it was glue-like ...like rubber cement. After pressing, Ravenna admitted to sub-standard work and agreed to salvage the job. In the end, it's OK. The stain ended up a lot darker than planned. During this project, several times, I found wads of neon green chewing gum tossed on the ground around my property. Project should have been completed within a couple weeks. My view is that I paid too much too early. Thus, the work slowed down and, at times, stopped. I had to make frustrated calls to get work done. Project would drag on for a couple more months. Numerous days were no-shows. I ended giving a one week deadline. Some work, no-shows misleading statements and no follow-up comunications sum up the last week. To move on, I ended the business arrangment. I went with a different contractor to finish the unfinished work. A couple weeks later, a Ravenna sub-contractor shows up at my door asking me to pay because Ravenna did not pay for the work his firm did. The word was that the sub-contractor was asked to deal with it by coming to me directly. After a couple weeks, this got sorted out by my directing Ravenna to take care of its responsibilities with its sub-contractors. Via email correspondence, Ravenna owned up to the poor customer experience I endured. I joined Angie's List to avoid firms like Ravenna. I pay for the website service and did my research (Ravenna has high scores!). My experience shows that using a service such as Angie's List, I may not always have a professional and quality experience. Or is it the situation communicated to me from Ravenna via email...from time to time, things just don't go well with a customer and I happened to be that customer. How does the work look? Besides the wood stain that ended up way darker than planned, the place looks good. The interior walls were painted well....new ceiling and paint job look great. New porch windows with with frames look nice - one window doesn't close right but I will get that fixed. Will I continue to use Angie's List? Yes, I will. My other 3 contractor experiences obtained from Angie's List were excellent and I will be repeat customer with them. Cheers

7/31  Friday. I called Jerrod at Archstone to discuss my need for some masonry repair. I mentioned his special for 8hrs for $439 and Jerrod responded that the price special for $599 for 8 hrs and the $439 was for 4 hrs.  He said that the $439 special was in error and he was going to withdraw it, but he did say that he would honor the $439/4hr price.  He wads on a jobsite and offered to call me on Monday. Monday , 8/3/2015:  Jerrod called to discuss the size of the project, which a section of brick veneer, 2ftX3ft that had separated from the house at one corner.  He asked that I send him photos to ensure he could do the work.  Photos were sent.  There followed another discussion of price.  While on the phone, I pulled up the Angie's special to confirm the accuracy information I was giving Jerrod on his two competing ads.  Once again Jerrod stated that the $439 special was in error and he was going to take it down and estimated the work to take 6 hours but said he would honor that price but that there would be a $75 cost for clean up and disposal and additional cost for brick replacement-if needed. Thursday , August 6th, I received an email message through Angie's that I was being scheduled for 8:00a a.m., Friday, August 21st.. Thursday, August 19th, David, a very nice man from Archstone stopped by to look at what would be required to make the repair and we discussed what might be involved. Friday August 21.  David arrived at 9:15 and explained to me what the task involved.  The he proceeded to disassemble bricks, clean them up, re-assembled them and using sufficient cement to keep the veneer identical to the remainder of the house, hose down the driveway to get rid of the dust and was on his way by noon.

The job went well.  Archstone Masonry did exactly as needed and agreed upon.  Archstone's work was timely, sound and of high quality. Upon installation of all new windows in our 1950 brick veneer house it was discovered that the brick above the front living room window had cracked and dropped due to the failure of the angle iron header supporting it.  This interrupted the window job until it could be addressed.  Archstone Masonry saved the day with an efficient, timely rebuild of the brick above the window.  The job required removal, cleanup and relaying of less than 30 square feet of brick over the window and rising up a gable.  Scaffolding was required.  A two man crew completed the rebuild in one day.  They returned for a couple of hours the next morning to clean up. I spoke personally with Jerrod Rhynalds, the owner of Archstone Masonry.  Mr. Rhynalds is good to work with.  He is a nice man who knows his trade and is a man of his word.  When he is in the field it is not always possible to get right in touch with him.  I see on Angie?s List that someone graded him way down because of a failed call-back.  I left a couple of messages for him myself before he got back to me ? a small price to pay for a good man doing good work.
