Recent Review: Two weeks ago we contacted DuctMedic in Charlottesville, VA, 1728 Seminole Trail  Charlottesville, Va, 22901 Phone: (434) 985-3828, requesting a bid to clean my home's ductwork. Our home was built in 1975 and we have occupied the residence for the past 12 years. We were in the process of replacing our A/C unit, a 30 year-old natural gas furnace and a gas water heater and wanted to coordinate the duck cleaning with the furnace replacement. We suspect that the ducts have never been cleaned since the home was built. Wes Ammons from DuctMedic replied to our request and came to our home on time and inspected the job site to prepare a bid. The following day we received an email with a bid which we considered to be a fair price for the services contracted for. We accepted the bid and requested that DuctMedic coordinate the job with the furnace installers. Today the crew from DuctMedic arrived on time and spent nearly five hours cleaning the ductwork. The crew included my wife in the process showing her the before and after photos of the ductwork and showed her what was retrieved from the ducks. This crew was very courteous, cognizant of the areas where they worked in our home ensuring that their feet were booted to avoid carrying dirt and dust throughout our home. They did comment that we maintain a need and tidy home. However after 40 years and multiple owners, no telling what the condition of the ducks were. We are very pleased with DuctMedic. There are many charlatans and scams related to duct cleaning just Google the topic. My wife and I did significant research on the topic of duct cleaning and furnaces. We would highly recommend contacting them for duct and dryer vent cleaning services.

Recent Review: This summer when my AC died I called Boyers to come out and see if they could fix it. I had called them in the past, they came out within 24 hours on what was by then the hottest day of the year. I had a leak and the guy said as old as my unit was it would probably cost 2000 to even try to find the leak and the type of coolant was it used was about to be unavailable. After getting several estimates to replace the AC (Turns out you get a discount if you replace the furnace too so I did both), Boyers came in as the lowest plus they are local where as others were not. When they came out to do the work (within less than a week) they ended up replacing all of my duct work as well. They didn't charge me any extra for this and it ended up being a lot of work for the two guys who came. Everyone I talked to was polite and informative and the guys who came out to do the work were fast and professional considering how much work they did. With the insulation they added to the ductwork I know it lowered my bills. I highly recommend them. And will probably use them for future plumbing needs as well.

Recent Review: 23 years ago our neighbor Lee Mayz, who happened to be the owner/provider of Lee's Htg and Cooling, converted the original all-electric baseboard heat system to gas forced air furnace and AC. This required installing air ducts and floor registers on the main floor and ceiling registers in the basement. We were very happy with the work they did then. In the 1990s we had Lee's Htgand Cooling do the plumbing work during a major kitchen redesign which required relocating sink and plumbing across the room. Since then Lee's has responded to minor plumbing needs (fix garbage disposal, clear clogged drain line, fix leaking bathroom plumbing, etc). When the city sewer line backed up into our basement, Lee scoped our line with a camera and determined the problem was in the city sewer line and not our house line. He noticed that our line had no flush-out access at the curb which would make digging up the street to clean out the city sewer line our expense, so he installed a flush-out access so that when the city dug up the street to clear the line it was not at our expense. Lee and his son Allan have maintained the house heating and cooling system for 23 years with regular "check-ups" and servicing. The system was still operating just fine, but past it's expected "replace by" date by several years. It suited us financially to go ahead and have it replaced now rather than wait until it gave out in the middle of freezing winter, so we asked Allan to provide estimates of various new heating/cooling systems. Allan met with us at no cost to review 3 options including heat pump. We selected the system we wanted and signed contract June 4 to begin installation within 90 days (we were flexible about start date). When they started we asked them to relocate the AC unit to allow for future renovation project. This required several additional hours and steps and of course cost ($400.00 for drilling new hose and electrical access through basement wall, closing up old accesses, prepping new AC unit platform, etc). 2 workmen performed the work over 4 days under Allan's direction. They were unfailingly courteous, professional, careful with their work, and cleaned up after themselves each day. They were even careful to not let either of our house cats out the door each time they came through to work on the intake vent or install the programmable thermostat. They worked pretty tirelessly through a scorching 90+ degree heat wave in the sun to install the new heatpump/AC unit. Allan stopped by a few days later to collect the final check and review everything. It so happened that the system's water drain had clogged up during the night before and leaked onto the garage floor. Allan had the workmen come over later that same day and flush out the line for us. This would happen from time to time with the old system (the furnace is located quite a distance from where the line exits the the outside and there isn't much pitch to the line as well as no good way to keep the spiders and other small critters from nesting in it). They created a "flush out" access so we can periodically flush it out with a hose to keep it open. And a shout-out to Nellie in Lee's Htg and Cooling office who has been the one to call and schedule routine maintenance service calls over the years. She is always friendly, courteous, and above all knowledgable about the bookkeeping end of the business.

Rehabbing home and needed air ducts cleaned and insulated and under floor insulated. Mark and his team were available the same day and offered the lowers price around. Mark showed up promptly, was polite and courteous. Mark provided advise and shared his experience on all aspects of the work being performed and not only was comfortable with me watching but egar to explain. Expedited service, at site on time, went right to work.

Great. No problems. Justin Kinsey is the business owner, a young father of two boys. High energy, customer-oriented. Visited first to assess the project; explained thoroughly the process, the expectations and the cost. Worked diligently with me to schedule appointment. Brought two helpers; all three very pleasant and personable. Showed up promptly. Worked just under 4 hours as promised. Cleaned up well afterward. I am not fond of the price (12 man hours / $700 = $58.33/hour x 3), but he's got equipment, travel and other overhead to consider, not to mention profit. I suggested a better camera would show off his results better. My 25yo house had never had the service performed. He found gobs of insulation found discarded in one duct from original construction. Personally, I think the service is great for family with allergies or other respiratory issues, and as routine maintenance perhaps every 10 years, especially here in the Shenandoah Valley. Otherwise, service may have questionable cost-benefit. But that's no fault of Mr. Kinsey, as he met all expectations with friendly and expert, superior service.

We had recently moved into that home. The furnace was operating, but not efficiently. The in-flow duct was too small for the furnace, and was connected very loosely, leaving gaps where air escaped. The heat pump was resting partially off its base, and was slightly tilted - not level. The technician came, listened to what we wanted done, looked at the items in question, and gave his recommendations that the in-flow duct be rerouted to increase efficiency, and gave us a quote for the work. After accepting the quote, the technician called to schedule the days for the work to be done, and let us know who would be arriving what days, and how long the repairs would take. All the items mentioned above were done quickly, efficiently and completely. They did have to work around a few rainy days, but once the work had begun, they stayed busy, and finished the work in the time they had estimated. After they finished each step, they showed us what work had been done before they left for the day. We were very pleased with the work that they did.
