Recent Review: I found Mike through Angie's List and couldn't be happier with the result.  Mike and his crew were very professional and timely.  His crew were  three hard working men who amazed me with their abilities.  The yard was desperately in need of attention being almost a blank slate with the exception of 5 trees that needed to be trimmed.  Mike's design was exceptional and improved cub appeal dramatically.  More importantly, our home is now comfortable and we enjoy sitting on the front and back porch even more.  I definitely recommend Mike and look forward in working with him again.

Recent Review: We are so happy with how our yard turned out. Neighbors have stopped to ask to come in back and look and have asked who did our yard. We are waiting to have Julian back to stain our deck and paint our back porch. We would highly recommend him, you will love his high energy and work ethic.

Business Description: Arrowwood Landscape Design, INC is a small custom landscape design build company, incorporated in 2008. The company’s reputation continues to grow, and most recently we were voted ‘Best of Fredericksburg 2014 for Landscape Design/Build. We were also awarded as an Eagle Bay ‘Hardscape Hero’ in November of 2014. All designs are thoughtfully created for the spaces they will occupy. Each design is as unique as our clients. We do offer consultations for landscape management but do not offer maintenance services. We do install sod and will over seed as part of our installations but do not offer lawn care services. We look forward to adding you to our list of happy customers!

Recent Review: Just happened to catch Greg Stone as he and his crew were doing some work across the street. After we chatted and he took a look at what we needed to have done, we received a timely and reasonable estimate. Although he is located a good distance from our neighborhood, he took the job and scheduled it to fit our needs. It was a lot of work and everything was done very much to our satisfaction. They worked with us on placement of boulders and trees and shrubs and in most cases, if not all, we agreed with their recommendations. In addition to what was requested, they cut down a dead tree that we forgot to put on our list. Greg and his crew were all very personable, professional, and hard working. We would hire them again!

ATHE GARRETT GROUP
The crew from the Garrett Group were fantastic.  After being abandoned by another local contractor at the last minute, Dave was able to quickly come to our home and assess our property and provided us with an estimate.  We explained that we had a tight deadline for completing the work in our yard and within two days we had a finished product.  Dave's crew worked tirelessly to make sure that everything was exactly the way we wanted it and went the extra mile to keep the rest of our property clean while they worked.  We truly appreciate everything they did.  We would absolutely use the Garrett Group again and would recommend them to friends!

DArrowwood Landscape Design
Ms. Jensen drew up plans for a butterfly garden according to our vision for this project.  She helped us choose a variety of plants for the garden that would attract butterflies and caterpillars.  Ms. Jensen hired a subcontractor with a Bobcat to clear and prep the area for the garden, to install a quantity of river rock in a drainage culvert that runs through the garden area, as well as place a few boulders in the garden as well.  Flower beds were created for the plants, and a bed of bluestone pebbles was created in one spot for a gazebo to be purchased at a later date.  Two willow trees were also planted in the garden area. First of all, the several tons of river rock which was added to the bottom of the drainage culvert, as stated above, was done without first having placed any sort of barrier down first, such as weed cloth to retain it.  Subsequently most of the rock has been lost from having sunk into the soil. Secondly, one of the two trees Linda planted for us - a small weeping willow, was planted inappropriately in the middle of the drainage culvert where its roots were constantly saturated with water.  When we noticed the tree showing signs of stress, we requested it be moved to a slightly drier location.  When Linda's workers moved the tree, they placed it much too close to the wood line to allow for the proper lateral growth of this type of tree.  It had to be moved a second time to a spot that was both drier and far enough from the wood line to allow for proper growth.  The tree then failed to thrive, presumably from the aforementioned traumas to it.  Linda had offered to work with us should we need to replace the tree, should that be necessary.  We tried to nurture the tree back to good health, but the tree died after the second season following its planting.  When asked for some sort of compensation for the loss of this tree which had been improperly situated two times by Ms. Jensen's workers, Linda curtly refused to do anything, saying too much time had elapsed. We were very disappointed, since the tree would probably have been fine had it not been so mishandled during its planting by Ms. Jensen's staff. Additionally, several of the plant species Linda chose for this garden, which gets full sun, were not suitable for that type of location, and either struggled or died.   Lastly, upon a recent visit to the Aarowwood website, we saw our butterfly garden featured as an example of Ms. Jensen's work. However, the mature garden shown on the website does not, in our opinion, reflect at all the sparse garden we were actually left with by Ms. Jensen.  Indeed, many of the plants one sees were planted by us after Ms. Jensen did her work.  The rock borders along the flower beds and trees are not her work either.  Nor is the gazebo, or the stepping stones in front of it.  This seems misleading to me. It also looks to me like some of the images of our garden Ms. Jensen used came from my Facebook page, without my knowledge or consent. I see there have been reviewers here that have been happy with Ms. Jensen's work.  Unfortunately, we are not among them. Update: I see that there is a response from Arrowwood to which I would like to respond: 1) Regarding the photos     The photo without pooling water was actually taken just before the completion of the project, not "after the client took responsibility of its upkeep," as stated in Ms. Jensen's response. As evidenced by the potted plants, this photo was taken before the planting was complete. It shows the beautiful river rock creek bed that has since disappeared into the mud. It also shows the absurdly small amount of straw that was used to protect the grass seeds.     The photo with the pooling water was taken shortly after the garden's completion, right after the first significant rain. It was, indeed, sent to Ms. Jensen to demonstrate the pooling water problem in the far end of the garden. Ms. Jensen did, in fact, agree to our suggestion of putting in a rock creek bed to allow the water to drain from the garden into the nearby drainage ditch.   2) Ms. Jensen states that we did not notify her of the fact that this part of the garden can be very wet at times. We absolutely did discuss this with her, and she had ample opportunity to observe this herself during the excavation of our garden. 3) Yes, Ms. Jensen offered to share the cost to replace the willow tree. She actually gave us three options: 1) pay for the tree and she would plant it, 2) she would provide the tree and we would plant it, and 3) give the tree another year, after which options one and two would again be available. We chose option number three. When it came time to replace the tree, she said it was out of warranty. I'm not sure what she means when she says that we requested 4.5 times the cost of the tree. The replacement tree is thriving in the exact same location as the original tree. 4) We may have signed a waiver, but that waiver did not give Ms. Jensen the right to take photos from my Facebook page that show the garden after many, many enhancements, improvements, and repairs and claim the work as her own. The waiver also did not give Ms. Jensen the right to take another of my Facebook photos, one of a potted plant on my balcony, nowhere near our butterfly garden, and post it as her own. 5) Yes, it is true that we did not previously voice many of these complaints. We pretty much wrote off our losses. That changed when we saw Ms. Jensen using our photos that do NOT in any way represent her work to market herself on her website. 6) Yes, please, future clients. Ask about this review. Ask for a reference from us. We're here and happy to talk to you and to show you her work. If she can't or won't give you our contact information, well, buyer beware.
