Recent Review: We came home from a trip out of town to find a basement flooded from a leaking water heater. The 10 yr old carpet and pad were soaked and the drywall was wicking up the water. I called my insurance company and went on Angie's list to find a water removal company. I left several messages with various companies and Kleen-n-Team was the first to call back so they said the could be there in 30 minutes to give an estimate. This was on a Sunday night and time was of the essence. When they arrived they immediately started soaking up the water. The person in charge said that he thought the carpet could be saved since they had gotten there quick enough and it was hot water. He gave me an estimate of about $1500 so I decided to do that since we had a $1000 deductible anyway and I didn't want the claim on my homeowners. He charged me for three industrial sized dehumidifiers which he said would dry everything out in 2-3 days. He also charged me for "monitoring" where his people would come by and put down disinfectant and de-old solutions. After one day, it was getting drier, but I pointed out that two of the dehumidifiers didn't seem to be doing anything and weren't putting any water into the collection. He agreed and took them out and then brought some little table top like versions, like you would get at Sears! The bottom line is it took about four days to dry it out and they had to come out three more times to clean and restretch the carpet. When I got the total bill, it was $3300! He explained that the estimate was just that. I explained that if I had known that would be the cost, it would have let my insurance company handled this and pulled out the rug and pad and would have cost me a LOT less. He didn't budge on his price any and reminded me that signing the estimate meant that there could be cost overruns. Also, he wouldn't take a credit card charge greater that $999 for some reason, only cash or check. Bottom line is they did the work, and they eventually made it look the way it should, but they will lowball you on the estimate. I feel like I was taken advantage of because I was in a desperate situation. Also, their staff and equipment was not very professional. I was disappointed by how poorly their machinery performed. In the future if I have any water damage, I will let my insurance company handle it since they have more clout with these people.

Recent Review: North Star did a great job for us. We had a valley that was leaking. We had other roofers look at the old roof and they all said the leak was from a skylight. North Star spotted the problem was the valley and not the sky light and gave us an estimate for a repair or a complete replacement of the roof. We decided to re-roof the house as the old roof was not wearing well. North Star and their crew showed up on time each day, worked very hard, respected our parking and neighbors, and did a super job on the roof. In addition, we hired North Star to repair the sheet rock and other damage from the leaking valley in our master bedroom. They did an excellent job on the work and on not allowing the dust to spread throughout the house. Of course, the proof of a roof is whether it holds up well and does not leak over time but I think it will hold up well and no leaks so far. In addition, their price was better than other roofers in the area and they were able to go to work immediately. Good military discount as well.

Recent Review: I have used them in the past. I am very pleased with them. It is a father-son company. It was a positive experience and I will definitely recommend them. The price was reasonable. They are not the cheapest guys in town, but they do a good work. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the quality of work that they do. They do a good work and they stand behind it. They are very reliable. They are busy, but if one has got immediate needs then they will work them in. They are very professional.

Recent Review: We had water damage in our finished basement. The technician from the water damage restoration company thought that water was leaking through the basement wall where the main water line enters the house. We called several companies who provide foundation and water proofing service, and Mid-Atlantic provided the earliest appointment. The inspector arrived on time - and although my wife and i were a few minutes late, he was very gracious and understanding. He inspected the area where water was leaking, and diagnosed a plumbing leak as the cause of the problem. He took the time to explain to me the evidence for this and his decision-making process. He then walked around the perimeter of the house and identified a few spots that might cause trouble in the future if not addressed. He e-mailed me a copy of his report, and sent it again after I deleted it from my e-mail account - excellent customer service. We had a plumber come out and repair the pipe - and no more leak. He was friendly, thorough and honest. Based on this experience, I would recommend consulting Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing.

Sadly, after a weekend away we returned to find our upstairs toilet shut-off valve had broken at some point, spraying water throughout the upstairs bathroom, bedroom, and seeping down to the great room ceiling below. Called insurance company and plumber, both of whom recommended this company. Husband called Servicemaster early the next morning and 2 employees (Karen and someone else) arrived about 1-2 hours later (before our plumber, actually). They assessed extent of water damage, set up the large and noisy fans and dehumidifiers (3 downstairs, 2 upstairs), stripped the ceiling to remove standing water. They did all of this efficiently with a minimum of mess. Karen came each day thereafter to check the moisture levels but told us upfront it would probably take about 3-5 days...she was right (sigh). The fans are really loud, but I am not sure it's possible to make a quiet fan that moves the amount of air these fans did. After 4 days, we were finally dried out and they removed their machines. Later, a different man came back to replace the destroyed carpet pad and reattach the salvageable carpet , then Karen came later that day to clean the carpet. We found a couple of carpet seams weren't quite flat anymore, but considering the amount of water we were happy to get away with minimal cosmetic changes to the floor. We found the team to be highly professional, friendly, and approachable. They did their work quickly and cleanly. We also appreciated how well they worked with our insurance company, saving us paperwork and hassle. Hopefully we will never have to repeat this experience, but if we did, we would use this company again.

King construction were professional and thorough from the first contact. They worked closely with our insurer to be sure that all damage was paid for appropriately by the insurer. Once the work started, there was good communication about when the various sub-contractors were coming. Each sub-contractor was professional, did their work well, and cleaned up well. Mr. Emmett Deavers, the project manager for King, was courteous, responsive and professional throughout. Would recommend highly.

Initially, things went great - a supervisor in the area called us at home that evening to determine if we needed them to come out that evening or if the next morning would be acceptable. As the rain had stopped, we decided to allow the man to stay home, and come in the morning. The following morning, the supervisor and 2 workers arrived to survey the damage and place several large dryers in the 2 rooms affected. Seemed just fine with us. Unfortunately, several days passed, my furniture was still in disarray, we still had a hole in the ceiling, and we still had several large dryers/blowers running in the basement, and nobody had returned to provide us with a status update or remove the large, noisy, disruptive and very expensive (on our electric bill, that is!) machines. Upon contacting the supervisor who had called us the first evening, we were treated horrifically - he was incredibly rude to us (after finding out that we RENT this million dollar home for $4k a month and are not the actual absentee owners) and very rudely demanded that we not "fuss at him" when we simply called to inquire when he would be sending his workers back to remove the loud machines and complete the job. My husband is an attorney and can get confrontational at times, but he was nothing but sweet and forgiving at first, although after being verbally abused and treated so rudely by this so-called supervisor from a company so in appropriately named "Service Master," he did become upset, but was still very professional. This supervisor was one of the most unprofessional people we have encountered, and we have owned businesses for over a decade.Rather than attempting to assist us with our problem, as is his JOB to do, this so-called supervisor HUNG UP the phone on us. I have never been treated so horribly by someone who is getting paid to WORK FOR US - not even by fast food staff. The workers themselves were courteous and performed the work that this jerk directed them to do, but I would NEVER use this company again, nor would I recommend the company to anyone (other than my enemies). It was a week before they came to remove their equipment, and even after this jerk came back to get the equipment, he left without a word to us about the remainder of the repairs, the cost, why it took so long for them to remove this large and disruptive equipment, etc. If this individual worked for us and treated our clients this way, he would be fired on the spot. Shame on ServiceMaster for providing such horrible service.

The piping under our sink had been leaking for some time before we bought the home, and the previous owners had covered it up with a ?false floor? and tiles to hide the damage.  We contacted Mr. Palumb and he came over and gave us an estimate to repair the damage. We decided to go ahead and re model the kitchen, since the repair work was going to be extensive.   We trusted Mr. Palumb and were happy with the price and his suggestions.  Mr. Palumb finished up the work in a month and informed us that if anything were wrong with the work, that he would come back and fix it.  He said to make a list, which he referred to as a ?punch list.? We were happy that the kitchen was done and the nightmare plumbing issue and water damage were resolved.  After the work was completed, we began noticing a couple of flaws in the kitchen. We also noticed that in the sun room behind the kitchen, there was exposed piping; Mr. Palumb had removed the wall outside to gain access to the piping, but did not cover it.  Additionally, debris and a large segment of drywall were left in our sun room.  After contacting Mr. Palumb about these issues, he gave us a date that he would come back and fix the kitchen.  My husband took a day of leave for this project, and Mr. Palumb did not show up.  We called him again and scheduled another day for the project, with myself taking time off from work.  When he arrived, he fixed what needed to be fixed, which we were generally happy about it. When I asked about the exposed piping, he said that he would have to buy a whole roll of insulation for just a tiny piece, so it would be better if we did it ourselves.  He also cut a hole in the drywall to place a shut off valve for the outdoor pipe.  He told us we could put a panel over the hole to gain access to the shut off valve.  Unfortunately, the hole was too big for any panels found at the store and required a drywall patch job and re-cutting of the drywall to fit the panel, which we had to fix ourselves.  Mr. Palumb also left a mess in our sun room, which included a large amount of sawdust, nails on the floor, building debris, and dried caulking on the brick floor.  Today we discovered some leaking under the sink.  When we investigated the leak, we discovered that the pipe Mr. Palumb installed had a crack!  We are now cleaning up the area and figuring out how to repair the damage0 Image of the pipe that was used after the installation of new sink in kitchen. New leak started in gaps in the pipe.
