Recent Review: Except for the problem with the deck the work and clean up was very good.  When I brought concerns to the attention to the crew, they were addressed immediately.  The crew is trustworthy and handled themselves very professionally.  I was impressed on the follow up with the problem we had  with the deck.  I was afraid I would never see them again and we would have to repaint the deck ourselves.  They kept their word and completed the work.  We have not had any problems with the deck and it looks so much better.

Recent Review: This company is GREAT!!!!   We needed our decking replaced on the back of our home.  We had pressure treated lumber and wanted to have Trexx installed. Jason Evans came out to our home and measured and gave us an estimate.  We scheduled the work to be done, and when the work crew arrived I cannot say enough about how professional and meticulous they were.  It took them about 2 days to finish the job, and from start to finish they were amazing.  They kept the area clean and neat, worked hard, and did an EXCELLENT job.  Our new deck looks beautiful.  The workers even went an extra step and removed junk (that we did not know was there because our deck is enclosed with brick)  our original builder left under the deck.   My husband and I would recommend this company without reservation!

Came out for an estimate in a timely manner, returned a thorough estimate quickly. His estimate was competitive to other handyman contractor we had gotten estimates from. Everything was done within the time line on the contract (all delay were weather related). I was traveling for several days of work and Tim would email me progress updates. We are very happy with the work that was done on our house.

The entire project took about 3 weeks, exactly as we were told it would. The old deck was removed and hauled away. The construction of the new deck and porch began the next day. We enjoyed watching the daily progress. I requested a couple of changes during the construction and they were easily accommodated. Everything moved along smoothly and quickly.

Very poor organization. they utilized sub-contractors for the entire project and and when problems arose (siding falling off / siding installed over attic vent / they were to wrap the house w/ Tyvek (which I paid extra for) they did not do the entire house / ordered alum-deck rails and they installed PVC (have to have them remove the PVC and install what was detailed in the contract / roof ridge cap blew off and it was not storm related (the tek-screws they used were not long enough to penetrate the wood - I had to have another contractor review and advise on correction methods).....................I just moved into the area and did not know any GC's and thought this firm was professional - my $50+ thousand dollar MISTAKE.

.It did not go well. Missed six days over the course of the construction with lame excuses ie car trouble, it MIGHT rain etc. He did not have the experience he claimed to have when it came to the handrails, The steps and rails did not meet code. The pickets on the handrails are spaced randomly, they are not even(straight up/down),also used two different styles of rails. On the steps he had miscut the rails and the pickets were way off. He also plugged holes where pickets were supposed to be because he didnt measure correctly so the top and bottom did not line up. Also on the step  handrails, the top rails were not at uniform heights On the steps risers are required if the space between steps is over 4". I had to pay someone else to do this. On the steps to the landing he used four stringers. On the steps from the landing down he used three stringers and these steps give if a heavy person walks on them. For the treads he used the decking which was grooved on the edges instead of the proper tread boards which looked awful and created a trip hazard. He tried to cover this up by scabbing 4x10" or so boards on the sides of the steps. After about two weeks the boards started separating from the steps and also splitting in two.He told me a crew would be here everyday until the job was done. His crew consisted of him and his wife who was mainly a clean up person. HE REFUSED TO COME BACK TO MY HOME AND ADDRESS ANY PROBLEMS I FOUND. After several texts and phone conversations he blocked my number on his phones. I have since had to find other contractors who were willing to work behind someone else. this is not an easy task. I now have someone lined up to replace the shoddy handrails he installed. I am filing a claim in small claims court to try and recover my losses. UPDATE-I WON MY SMALL CLAIMS CASE. HE NEVER DEFENDED HIS BAD WORK. HE SPENT HIS WHOLE CASE BAD MOUTHING ME, THE CUSTOMER! CLAIMED I WAS "DIFFICULT". YES I WAS, IF BEING DIFFICULT MEANS ASKING SOMEONE TO FIX PROBLEMS AS THE ARISE. I WILL NEVER HIRE ANOTHER "CONTRACTOR" WITHOUT REFERENCES

We decided to add a screened porch to the back of our house which was over a walkout basement. Rodney removed the existing deck, enlarged the size for the new deck with added underneath supports and placed the porch on most of the deck but left an outside area (with a door out to it) so we could hang bird feeders or add planters to the outside railing. He configured the roof line to architecturally fit with the back of our house. We chose composite decking with all wood for railings and supports plus a natural stain for the pine ceiling and weatherproof ceiling fan. A small amount of siding was added to the back peak line under the roof. The railings and pickets were stained white and the underneath supports were painted to match the composite deck. We are so excited share this review and look forward to warmer weather so we can enjoy our screened porch without the sun beating down on us all day!

They are fantastic and they did a wonderful job. Mark Maslow is one of the owners and he is great. He came for a couple of visits to see what we wanted and he came up with a few designs for us. We chose one and he worked over the next few weeks to refine it. We never felt rushed. He went before the architectural review board for my neighborhood and basically pitched the design to them. I asked him for help because they are pretty hard to get approval from. He sold it to them and they approved it. Five or 6 weeks later they began the work and they just finished. It is better than we ever dreamed; it is just beautiful. They could work on their communication a little bit. We had a problem with one of their subcontractors - carpenters - and there was some miscommunication but it all got resolved. Their price was a little higher but the value was there and it was worth it. We paid more but we got more.

We had a deck on the back of the house. He took out the deck and replaced the deck with a different type and expanded it and inclosed it with screen so we have a screened porch now instead of a deck. They were very friendly and very knowledgable. He consulted with us on how we wanted the deck finished and he checked back with us to see if we thought everything was satisfactory with it. I appreciated his work and thoroughness. It has turned out to be a really nice deck.

AThe Southern Porch Co
All work went as agreed to in advance. Started on schedule, and completed the work very fast, and ahead of schedule. All work appeared tobe first quality, and as specified to prior to beginning work. All work was inspected and approved by the buildint inspector of city ot Lynchburg. Site was cleaned up as work was ongong and when completed, the work was a turnkey job. All subcontractors for electric and staining seemed to work efficiently and professionaly. Payment was maid in 3rds, as the work was completed. I consider that Rodney Seay, the owner of Southern Porch Co. was very professional, was on the job as he said he would be and oversaw the completion of a very nice project, in a timely manner and for a fair price. I would definitely consider sonsulting with him for any future projects.
